  • Indy and Shady had been doing a night time weaning for about 3 weeks. Today, at 5 months old, it was time to separate them. Here Indy is a little upset at this decision and is running around, calling out for mom. The other foals, both a month older than him, aren't quite sure what to make of him!

Looks like even at this age herd instincts are on point & high horse is firmly established. So cute.

I weaned my colt yesterday. Mom was hilariously calm. We had her at a different barn and i was even able to ride her lol

My boy forgets how to run, mid-sprint, and stumbles over his hooves.

The video description doesn’t suggest fun times…

@@kangaroo9816 why not? The separation of foals and their mother is very normal. These horses are being very playful with each other

@@LaraCroft36 just because it’s normal, it doesn’t mean the foal is happy about it. Now I admit I don’t know anything about horse body language and if you do and think the foal’s ok, I’ll gladly believe you. But the description says the foal is calling for its mother, from whom it was taken away, and I think that it stands to reason the foal would be distressed.

@@kangaroo9816 i see what you mean, but of course separating them doesn't go like a fairytale. Its kinda like moving out of your home when becoming an adult youknow. it can be scary, but its a good thing in the end. And yess I've been riding horses for over a decade and i studied animal care in highschool, i can assure you the horse is okay ^^.
If he was is distress, i think he'd probably just pace back and forth close to the fence, as close to his mom as possible. Instead he's running around with the other little one (playing). They're paying attention to each other, instead of constantly staring/ paying all attention to the mother c:

What breed are these foals? They’re built really well.

Thank you! The large grey is my boy, he is an Anglo-Arab/Holsteiner cross. The chestnut is not mine but she is a saddlebred.
