और ईमान वाली स्त्रियों से कहो कि उन्हें अपने शील की सुरक्षा करनी चाहिए; और उन्हें साधारणतया आवश्यक नहीं होने पर अपने सौन्दर्य और आभूषणों का प्रदर्शन नहीं करना चाहिए; उन्हें अपने वक्ष तक आवरण करना चाहिए और सौन्दर्य का प्रदर्शन अपने शौहर के सिवाय किसी के सामने नहीं करना चाहिए...31" (पवित्र कुरआन 24:30-31)
उपर्युक्त आयतों के अनुसार, मुस्लिम स्त्रियों को खुद को शालीन आवरण में रखना चाहिए। विशेष रुप से वक्षों को आवरण में रखना है। तथापि, कुरआन ऐसे आवरण का विवरण नहीं देता है। यहाँ ध्यान देना महत्वपूर्ण है कि कुरआन में उन स्त्रियों के लिए जो आवरण नहीं रखतीं, किसी दंड का प्रावधान नहीं है।
