    For anyone who actually visits Boston, this museum is amazing and they 100% still have the empty frames hanging where the art was stolen. It's very cool.

      Yes! I was going to write that same thing. It's sad and yet hopeful, because it does feel like they're waiting for their art to return.

    • @utubefreshie
      @utubefreshie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      It's also like an "In Memoriam" to honor the lost art I guess. It's very obvious that due to the high profile nature of the works that whoever stole them kept the paintings for themselves. There's no way they can sell them in the open art market because they will get instantly recognized as the lost masterpieces. So they gotta be sitting in someone's basement or vault or hidden in an attic or behind a wall somewhere. Whether or not they surface one day remains to be seen. And that to me, would be the fascinating sequel and conclusion to this mystery. 😉

      I agree! - Because they are not allowed to change anything. It was in her will to leave everything as is ... it never crossed her mind that this would happen. LOL
      It really is a great museum though

That's why there's such a high risk of accidental destruction or mishandling damage. This isn't a movie where some corrupt billionaire keeps them in a secret gallery in his mansion. Some mouth breather has them rolled up in a basement lockup somewhere waiting for the day he gets arrested.

    Watching this documentary, my heart broke for the stolen artwork so many people will never get to see. Seeing how one of the potential owners treated it so recklessly, just letting it waste away, rolling up centuries old artwork so it wound up cracking. Art should be enjoyed by everyone, not just the guy with half a million to throw around.
    And it was so infuriating that the FBI never really cared to give a good investigation & just assigned a random lackey.
    Also Bobby Guarente is the literal twin of the second guy in the drawings. Definitely believe he did it.

    I'm wondering how could they fit a 63" x 50" painting in a car, if the support was too stiff to be rolled or folded. I don't get it 🤯

    "These paintings are worth half a billion dollars" but... "if you find them, we'll give you 10 million" uh... I think maybe selling them is smarter...?

    • @theamazinglace
      @theamazinglace 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It would be extremely difficult to sell them because they are so recognizable at this point. You'd have to have some very deep black market connections. Even then how could you trust anyone not to expose you for the recognition that would come with the find?

    Entrusting the safekeeping of such valuable artistic values to a frivolous person who is not an expert in security, is in my opinion, the greatest failure of this museum, the paintings have deservedly disappeared, I am surprised that in addition to this kind of security, they did not disappear before... How did you take care of the paintings so you it happened... Now someone else will take better care of them than the museum... Sad story..
