How To Use a Planner: Vertical Style Layout

- With all the pretty planners out there, and the explosion of inspiration on social media, how exactly are we suppose to USE a paper planner? Some layouts come in a vertical style and today I share all my tips for utilizing this spread to the fullest!!

The vertical layout is by far my favorite! I use it for the most part the basic way, but I tend to do a lot of journaling in one or two boxes depending on the day and what's going on. I also use the small colored boxes for the daily focus and zone cleaning areas. I love that it doesn't have time slots because we are a family of night owls and are usually just waking up at 10am. But if I do have day in the week when I need time slot I can just add them in for that one day. There are truly endless possibilities with this style of a planner! I have really enjoyed your how to plan videos and I gleaned the most from your how to use your monthly spread! I already used it for most of the things you mentioned, but wow there was a lot I wasn't that now I am. The month at a glance is a must for me since I could read a calender! Its only been since high school that I starting using a weekly, but never really liked the layout until last year when I found the vertical. Thanks you so much for taking time out to make these videos to help so many of us with our planning! You do such a beautiful job explaining and giving examples!!

I am still having problems setting a routine. My husband died three years ago, then my daughter got married last year and this year was 3 surgeries for me and back surgery for my daughter. That along with the up and down restrictions with COVID 19, the California Fires, the air quality changes (I have COPD/asthma), and on and off power outages (due to wind) and now I'm in quarantine due to an exposure to people with COVID 19 (1 more week to go). And finally tomorrow and the next day my power will be out because there will be wind. So, with Tuesday being my birthday I will be spending it alone in the dark.
Any ideas on planning a routine around all of this?
When setting routines, I always start with what I can control- like meals and bedtimes. Then I loosely fill other things in where they flow the best during that framework. Sometimes a routine will work for months at a time. Other times I have to adjust every month. A routine is meant to be a guide on “normal” days, it’s always a tool, not the boss. I follow it when it makes sense and ignore it when I have to. Be gentle and patient with yourself, a lot is going on 😘
Great video! I am so used to the Horizontal Layout, but none of the Happy Planners I've been looking at are my style with that layout. Some of the Vertical ones are really cute, but I was LOST as far as how to use it lol! This helped a lot, thank you!

Bummer! You could always write sideways. Turn the book 90 degrees and write along the days that way?
What is the specific name of the planner? For the life of me I can’t find it on the Erin Condren website.
This is a Life Planner, their main planner. Once you start customizing it you can select the “vertical “ option. Did this help?

It is a weekly program for kids. They go to church and memorize bible verses, play games, and get Bible lessons. My kids love it!

What pen are you using?
I can’t remember the exact name; I filmed this over a year ago and I don’t have that pen anymore 😆 It was something like a Pilot Precision or Precise pen.
Thank you. I was considering getting a horizontal after many years of vertical ECLP but I am thinking now of continuing vertical and using some of your tips. I was doing the three boxes as personal, family and my son specifically who is a senior, but now he will be off at college and I won’t need such a detailed box for him
