Yar I am not a big fan of academic philosophy. Look at US which is a capitalistic mindset and wants return on investments - there is no return on investment in philosophy- it’s not a business, that is why philosophy is dying in US. Metaphysics - almost dead, if not dead already. Epistemology- a lot is happening, this branch is thriving. Let me know what you think.
Sir, after watching your video I watched the movie Luther (2003) then I watched some videos on the 95 theses of Luther then I searched for the criticism but was unable to find the sources. Could you please mention the name of the source where I can read or watch Martin’s criticism? In everything I have watched till now, he comes out as a protagonist. Thanks in advance
Read Nietzsche's book called "Anti-Christ" he wrote a lot of bad things about Luther ----but if you're talking about history- just read any good book on reformation, it's a very well recorded area.

I think it is funny that few historians note that most of the "evils" of the Catholic (or any religion, in many respects) stem NOT from religion, but from politics. Yes, there was a very learned Martin Luther who disagreed with aspects of Catholic practice in his time and was an important figure in the breaking away of much of Europe from the Catholic Church. He was protected, however, by German and other princes for essentially political reasons (the princes resented the meddling of the Pope in their affairs). Otherwise, Luther would have been killed. The Crusades had many religious aspects, of course, but it is hard to explain it as mostly "religious" when you realize that Saladin routinely fought other Muslims so he could extend his own power and that quite often one "Christian" kingdom in the area allied itself with a Muslim lord against another Christian. Same for the fighting in Spain in the 14th-century. I do not think, therefore, that most of the "Reformation" hinged on religious ideas. Obviously, armies had religious beliefs and fought against other armies that had other religious beliefs. Still, princes and kings on both sides would withdraw support from their "religious" side for political reasons and sometimes even ally with the "other" religion, if it suited the politics of the rulers. And need I mention the famous Henry The 8th story? He wanted a legitimate heir. He, as a Catholic, could not get divorced from his barren wife, so he took the Church of England "out" of Roman Catholicism and created his own form of Protestantism, so he could marry a woman that would give him a son. I could go on, but I leave off. I welcome intelligent commentary from those who might think otherwise, especially the atheists who use the thin-reed-argument that the Catholic Church was the cause of so much warfare in the past, entirely ignoring the much more important reality about most all of these wars being started for political reasons, regardless of what the contemporary propaganda was tell "the folks" about the war being about.religion.
I agree with your points above, there were many other factors and not just the religious differences that caused the reformation and it cant all be blamed on Church. However, reformation was overdue and inaction of the popes led to the revolt (there were many, before Luther who raised similar voices e.g., Wycliff and Huss). A slow and gradual reformation would have been much better and less violent. Obviously kings were done following orders of the Popes for last 400 years, nationalistic sentiments were on the rise, kings knew they would gain financially if they cut off with the Catholic Church. I think Henry the VIII was more interested in Church property /tithes then in Anne Boleyn or a heir!!!. Italy wanted to unite, but Church did not want it, due to Papal states. Germany was a very loose confederation and many dukes disliked Church, Germany did not have a one king who could negotiate things on their behalf. France and Spain continued to fight with each other to control the Church. England thought Church is controlled by France. Protestants were not any better, they were far less tolerant than Church (e.g., they were against science / Copernicus, against jews, they supported inquisition, supported witch hunting, banned books, broke icons, discouraged art and sculpture etc.). I think the reformation resulted in much less tolerant societies for the next 200 years, then before. Also, the reformation (which was German) destroyed renaissance which was Italian (which was Italian)!!!. At the same time I think there were many things wrong with the Church e.g., papal army, donation of Constantine, ecclesiastical wealth, too much interference in temporal matters, lay investitures etc. All in all - It had to happen and I like the fact that reformation of the Church was done in a very honest way - even though it was 200 years late, but it was honest. Also I like the fact that the Church did not compromise on any of its doctrines despite immense pressure. Thanks for your comment.

What is the future of philosophy as an academic subject with respect to the bigger unsolved mysteries of metaphysics and epistemology?
