The Hot Tub makes it all worth it!!😉 I have my materials but...over-seed soon , then this, that , the hot rod misses me working on it ...its gonna happen but these 90+ degree days have worn me out...& the shop has a mini split lol...BTW It looks great!! Send Travis "Budget Lawns" some pics , his frt yard reno turned out really nice!!!
I feel you, brother. That to-do list just keeps growing. Thanks so much for watching and the kind words.
Love what Travis does with lawn care. I'm jealous of his front lawn. Good idea on sending the pics.
This is technically what I searched for but not what I was expecting. Made things interesting for me though. Thanks! ☺️
Lol - thanks for being here!
Thanks to these 5 edging tips I can now edge effectively and safely!
Thanks for watching
I was about to edge and this video was very helpful! I would have not been able to edge this good without this video.
Hey thank you for watching!
Thank you for posting this. We’re about to do this exact thing so perfect timing 😃
👊 Thank you for watching and commenting. Good luck on your project, I hope it turns out great!
Great Video. Straight to the point. Times I was actually looking for but didn’t know it and you gave some great visuals and break downs with details that matter. Thanks!
Thanks for watching 🤜🤛
Getting ready to embark on an edging project and this was very helpful. Thank you!
Thank you for watching. Best of luck to you and the project!
Looks great 👍
Thank you so much for watching and commenting 😁
Absolutely beautiful 💯💯💯
Thank you! I'm about to drop the sequel in the next couple of days. Stay tuned!!
An amazing job 💯. Thanks 👍
Thank you very much 🤜🤛
So Exciting nice job good info
Hey brother - thanks so much for the nice words. They go a long way 🤜🤛
Best tip I would add is using a gorilla cart, the one with the lever that can dump dirt out. 4 wheels vs 2 wheeler adds serious stability and maneuverability. Great video, yard looks wonderful
That's an awesome tip. Thank you so much. I've seen those before, but never had one.
Straight to the point, l loved the video. Thanks for the tips 👏
Thanks brother 👊 I appreciate you!
Yo I'm just like you! I'm not a professional, but love diy projects! I time-lapsed my backyard makeover. My last project is to build out an outdoor kitchen which will relate more to channel later...GREAT TIPS and Love the channel! Hope to stay connected. Much respect to all DIYers out there 🙏
Thanks brother 👊. Always good to connect with another DIY enthusiast.
It's been awhile since I have done a similar project and this video was really helpful
Thanks for watching 🤜🤛
Awesome video, 🙏
Thanks brother, that means a lot 🤜🤛
Using a moon shovel to cut a sharp edge in grass and there is no need to have plastic or any barrier. My favorite way to edge! Looks cleeeeen that way
Thanks for the tip, brother 🤜🤛
That may be useful for small lots/areas but not when you are working with a large space, very inefficient.
@jfil5518 thanks for watching.
@@jfil5518 and doesn't last long. Grass is invasive as heck.
@@jfil5518 When you have sandy soll this really helps to get a nice edge.
Nice video. Good job 😃. Something to add. Any place where you are using connectors, use drywall screws to hold them together. Works great!!😃😃
Thanks for this tip! I missed this and have had some issues with expansion over the past 6 months. I may do a little digging to fix this
Great Video
Thank you! 🤜🤛
Thanks man 🫡
Thanks for watching brother 🤜🤛
Perked up hearing the Menards reference. I grew up in rural Illinois but live in Northern Alberta now.
Wishing I'd seen this earlier since I just finished an impromptu edging and mulching job for my girlfriend's parents. Could have came out better but they approved so I'll take the win 😂
Take the win, brother! Thank you for watching and the comment. Love some Menards.
@@DadBuiltDIY I will say, Canadian Tire stores are epic... Like Rural King, Big R and Menards all in a maple scented package. Even if all the equipment is electric powered 😅
I miss my commercial Stihl weed eater haha
I feel how that can be tough. I would have a hard time giving up my Echo gear
Thank you sir 🙂
Good luck!
Great explanation! Thank you. And you have an amazing voice. Radio voice.
🎙️Thank you for the kind words. You've made my day 🎙️
@@DadBuiltDIY Welcome!
I would have put down cardboard as a weed block before the mulch. That’s just good prevention.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks
Thanks for watching brother 🤜🤛
Thank you for watching.
TIL: edging stake tab goes up! I've been doing it down this whole time. DOH!
We've all been there brother
Regarding 90 degree corners, I couldn't find those corner adapters anywhere near me, so what I did was take an x-acto knife, and cut a roughly 40 degree triangular section from the inside curve of the circular top portion of the edging.
After doing that, I bent the edging, and the two edges made from my cut connected as a result of the fold, which left me with a seamless 90 degree corner.
I love that! I thought about doing that myself, before finding the connectors. Great to know for the future. Thanks for the update!
Nice. So you're driving the stakes through the edging, correct? Resting the bed sounds nice, but the soil isn't going to be any different "for the plant" that 2nd year vs planting immediately. Yes the soil will be better, but that will happen regardless and that extra year of growth is pretty valuable. Also look around your property (and your families) and you can fix a lot of bald-ish spots easily with that sod. Or kill off a heavily weeded area and reclaim it with sod. Got a low, wet spot? Put in some vertical drains (post holes filled with gravel, and build up the area with the sod. Endless uses for sod. :)
Hey brother - thanks for those great tips 👊. Yea, I'm going straight through the edging with the spikes.
I am a senior and did almost the same as you, however, I didnt know about landscape stake, so I am going to see if I can get them here in Canada. My problem was the ground was hard and getting it the same height was difficult for me.
Thank you for watching and your comment. Good luck with your project, I hope you are able to find the spikes. I don't know about their availability in Canada, but I went on Amazon and searched for "metal landscape edging spikes" and found options available there.
If you buy landscape edging that comes in a roll, the quality is not there. High grade quality edging cannot be rolled. You buy it flat because the material is thick. If you do buy that "edging in a box" so to speak, you'll be doing it over and over again because it will pop up. That's why people say they don't like landscape edging; because they see it at other people's homes, uncurled, sticking up, cut by the lawn mower, and grass growing up over it, and tree roots popping it up out of the ground. That curled edging is a homeowner's nitemare about to happen. But go ahead, and buy that stuff if that's all you can find, or just not buy it, and continue to cut a natural edge into the soil. And while I'm on the subject, don't buy that metal edging either, because it too has a smoothe wall, and the metal stakes are pounded straight into the ground, and in time it works its way back up from the ground, and also becomes worthless. Go to a professional landscape supply location, and buy high quality landscape edging. Around Michigan, there is Site One which is the old John Deere Landscape Supply houses as one possibility to acquire qulaity edging. I've been in the landscape design/build industry for 37 years now, and the edging that I use stays in the ground, on some projects going on 20+ years. And never instal edging around trees as the treeroots will eventually find that edging as the roots expand and will pop it up, and you may cause the roots to grow in a cicular fashion as the roots hit the edging and grow in a circle rather than expand out. Sorry for such a long message, but don't waste your time or money unless you buy professional grade products. THUMBS UP for effort.
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
This comment actually helped me out a ton, currently ripping out this plastic edging that was placed 4 years ago, so much work. thank you
nice video - quick question b/c I'm in the middle of doing this exact project: when connecting the two ends of the boarder using the "connector" piece, does the connector piece go the top tube, because it's almost too big to fit? Or does it clamp down on the outside top of the edging, like a "c" clamp? I was able to get the connector to fit by hammering it a bit in on itself, but I'm not sure if that was the right way to do it. Thanks.
Hi Sara, thank you for watching and the comment. My corner piece fit inside the top tube on each end. Mine was a tight fit, as well. Didn't have to hammer it or anything, but it was definitely very snug.
If you're connecting two straight pieces together, you can take a pair of channel lock pliers and pinch the connector together to get it to slide into the tube easier.
Best of luck on your project!
Same Jacuzzi Tub I have
It's a good one
👌👌👌👌👌
Thank you for the comment 🌟

Thank you for watching!
Yeah moving sod around always tough, especially on the back. Don't get me started on wet sod....
While I was working, I thought "this is a lot harder than I remember it being"... And I remember it being hard 😂
Thanks for watching, brother. Looking forward to seeing more of the good stuff you're putting out.
Same to you!
Yea I need this edging to separate my grass from the neighbors. The landscapers I had put up no edge edging and its terrible. Its moving all around and in the way of the sprinklers
Thanks for watching and your comment. This is definitely my go-to. It holds up over time and looks good too.
Great video! I noticed you didn't lay any weed fabric down. Was there a reason for that? I'm about to do this same project and was curious.
Thanks brother! As far as weed fabric goes, you don't need it. You want to go with a good thick layer of mulch - about 3". Fabric will prevent nutrients from getting into your soil and will eventually let weeds through anyway and become a big hassle. I use weed fabric if I'm not planting anything in the area, like if you were laying down river rock or something like that.
Good luck with your project - I'm sure it will turn out great!
🤯
Thanks for watching!
May you please give me a link to the corner coupler you purchased? I am a newbie and there are different ones that confuse me. I also used the vigoro edging you used in the video. Please share the link to the connector. Thank you!
Hello - Best of luck to you on your project! Here is the coupler I used:

If you aren't near a Menard's - you could try this one on Amazon:

But... How do you cut the edging???
Thanks for watching and your question. I use a hacksaw to get a clean result.
Sweeeeet
Thank you for watching 🤜🤛
How deep of an edge did you make to install ? And where do you get those spikes? Thanks
Thanks for watching and your question. I did 5" depth and I got the landscape spikes at Home Depot. The spikes came in separate packs from the edging roll.
Where did you get that half moon edger with tiny teeth? Thanks.
Thanks for watching and your question. I got it at Home Depot - Ames Steel Landscaping Edger. In my area they're going for $37
Just spend the money om metal edging. Edge Right or Coyote landscape are the two i have used.
Thanks for watching!
I subscribed and liked this video only because it was very helpful, and because you have boot camp sergeant voice and you make this sound like a call of duty mission. Keep up the great work!
I love that! Thank you so much for your support.
🪖🎖️As you were, soldier! 🪖🎖️
does it also stop water coming near concrete from grass?
That's a good question. I don't think I would use it for that purpose. It will stop grass from growing into a mulch bed, but water is still going to be able to go under or over it.
Thanks for watching.
Hello Dadbuilt,
Where did you buy your corner connector piece or any local stores?
Thanks!
Happy labor day.
Hello! I got mine at Menards. The brand is Master Gardener. When I search it online, it shows available at some Home Depots, so depending on your area, they hay have them. Let me know if I can help any more.
Happy Labor Day to you too, brother
What would you charge to do this?
Thanks for watching and your question. I'm not a professional so that's a tough one. I suspect a pro would charge per linear foot for installation. I had 300ft of edging to install so I might expect to pay $1,000+ to have this installed vs. about $250 to do it myself. I hope that helps.
So many of these videos are done where there aren't many rocks. Where I live there are rocks every few inches.
There's almost as many rocks as there is dirt. It's murder!
I feel your pain there. I used to live in Nashville and it was either clay or rocks 🪨.
Thanks for watching and commenting 🤜🤛
Exceptional editing. I'm more functional than aesthetic and will be edging and mulching a muscadine to give it the best environment for accelerated growth. I liked, but if you want to affiliate, reach out. Sara and I are looking to bring someone in landscaping aboard. We share up to 55%.
Very Best Regards,

As a Professional landscaper for 35yrs my first tip in edging is to not use plastic edging ever in every circumstance! Don't use a half-moon edger ever as well!
Thanks for watching, anyway
Great now I'm professional at edging, my edging still lasts
Thanks for watching
Pov: you search a meme comment about the other edging
Thanks for watching
All these edging vids are flat, easily accessible areas im out here on extreme, uneven angles with trees above so i cant even access the area, huge roots running thru the "line" she wants. 😢 Misses running me ragged
I hear that, brother. Stay strong 🤜🤛
Vinyl edging tip #1.
Look for a better material than Vinyl.
Thanks for watching anyway.
Not the edging I’m used to
I see what you did there...
The plastic is better than nothing I must say. Temporary. This guy did a very nice job though.
Thanks Karen!
Are those prison tatts?
Do you want them to be?
@@DadBuiltDIY gone? yeah.
wow…that was nasty for reason…
@kll815 You're very kind. Thank you.
Lol why are people so rude. You’re just sharing some tips to help and then people in the comments are just attacking every little thing they can.
Weed barrier, buddy.
Thanks brother. I'm going without it! I'm throwing 3 inches of mulch down for some natural resistance. I should report back next season with results.
The mulch is supposed to be your weed barrier, buddy. Not to mention it feeds the soil. Plenty of articles and videos explain the nonsense of landscape paper under mulch.
With mulch no weed barrier is needed. If you’re going with rock I’d suggest a weed barrier.
Good tips, but I would never install that plastic garbage.
Thanks for watching, anyway. You installing metal? Composite?
I like stone, pavers, textured concrete which looks beautiful and can last many, many years if installed correctly. I don't like metal, rubber, plastic, composites.... for a variety of reasons. In my experience you can't beat the beauty and durability of stone type products.@@DadBuiltDIY
@ube2slow I hear you there. I've been kicking around the idea of some paver projects for next season
Why is it garbage!
@jessemartinez2606 it really comes down to preference. Some people like the look and durability of a more solid material like stone. I've had good experiences with this edging - but no matter what material you choose, the quality of your install matters most. Badly installed edging is going to look like garbage, no matter what material it is. That's one of the reasons I made this video! Thank you for watching.
Nah the straight lines are wavy. Can’t do it, looks amateur when the straights are wavy. Better to go with a rigid edging or natural edge
Thanks for watching
@@DadBuiltDIY sure thing. I admire the effort.. the results just never come out right with edging like this. I’ve tried it myself, staked every 12 inches and the tops are still wavy on the straights.
🤜🤛
Srsly…, plastic edging…? 😂
Thanks for watching. What are you using?
@@DadBuiltDIY H4 treated 200x100 hardwood sleepers laid wide side down.
Very cool. I used those before on a playground project I did.
I mow for a living. Don't use this crap. Every year that it is the ground it becomes more wavy and you still have to edge it with a trimmer. It has no purpose. It is just a "honey look what I did" homeowner solution. I edge every mow and keep it sharp.
Thanks for watching
Looks like cheap shlt plastic edging.
Thanks anyway for watching
Fancy house. Fancy hot tub. Cheap a$$ edging that cheapens the house and property.
