Air cooled diesel engines have little to go wrong and whatever the terrain whatever the conditions whatever they are asked to do and whatever the work THEY DELIVER 100% everytime. Shame this power source was shunned in later Deutz tractors for water cooled diesel engines.
Air cool is fine tho, but because of standarts of effiency, fuel consumption, variable part platforms and minimizing pollution might be the reason why deutz switched air cooled engine to liquid cooled system. Of course that sounds little bit of screwin users, but that's the truth. Yes there is more problems with liquid cooled engines cuz waterpump might just stop workin or head casket decides to blow off, but when you maintain your tractors despite model or how old your tractor is they will run and work always
The aircooled Deutz engines became a legend but controlling the emissions became a problem. You need a stable base temperature for reference and an aircooled engine cannot deliver this feature. In performance and fuel consumption those engines were brilliant!
Call me what ever but I actually like the duetz allis for its looks and what it's got . But yeah idk why they would change the name on a company that's all ready pretty well established
The Deutz tractors were good for what they were, summertime(up north here anyway) chore tractors. Fuel efficient and mostly trouble free, in WI here for the dairy farmers the 50-60 HP tractors were good units for doing daily manure, doing lighter jobs during haying season like raking, etc. Useless in the winter for the most part, as they were hard to start and slow to warm which, even if it wasn;t seemed to be really hard on the tractor. Which then of course meant it was NOT a good chore tractor, because that is the only type a dairy farmer really needed in the winter months. So they sat parked for half the year. Which really wasn't much of a selling point to Deutz owner's neighbors. Not to mention the dealer network was abysmal in WI, it is no wonder I only saw a fistful in my youth, one was a neighbors (a little older then these, I think from the 70's) and one or two would show up in the sales papers for the used dealers in the area on occasion. Later on the higher HP models(130HP I think it was) in 2wd trim with factory cabs would be a recurring theme on used lots, for bargain prices. I remember seeing ads in magazines for the front mount 3 point and thinking "what in the world would anyone need that for?" as at the time there was basically no equipment available that made any sense to mount, people used sickle type haybines, mostly moving to hydro-swing 12-16 footers, put more hay in the silo then in the barn, and in the end I have never seen a Deutz/Allis with that equipment anywhere. Turns out the idea stuck around, and in recent years with the "giant lawnmower" type haying mowers now there is a practical use for it. As i grew up running a New Holland 56 side rake and the neighbors all having JD bar rakes, it never occured to me about mounting a hay rake in front. But then, we always raked hay hours before we baled to make sure the underside got some sunshine too to be totally dry. I also remember the ads for the 32 speed transmissions, and thinking "overkill" and "better hope it doesn't break". But thats a different topic. In the end I think the farmers around here saw Deutz as "foreign", and "that weird green one" and in general were more likely to buy a JD, or a Case, or especially in the troubled 80's a White because White was doing crazy finance deals at the time and a lot of guys around here had run Oliver and knew White's heritage. Just like IH had it's fans, AC did too and both groups had a hard pill to swallow come the early 80's.
actually they warmed up quicker than any watercooled engine. because of the thermostatcontrolled fan. so it reached workingtemerature faster and thus had less wear on the engine. also they arent hard to start at all. our 4.70 starts anytime in winter. and i live in norway
Ours starts very well in the cold. At one time we used it every day all winter long to scrape the barn and barnyard at 7 am. It had a thermostart in the intake and if it malfunctioned it would not start. Usually an easy fix electrical connection. Ontario weather here.
0:05, oh my god, that computer, LMFAO, they were so big back then, and so ugly, that was before the idea of streamlining a computer design, hated those computers, the modern pcs and laptops of today are the modern race

We have one it’s over 40 years old and it has over 6200 hours. It’s still runs like a dream, I really wish ours had the front PTO.

We had a 6265 that we just traded on a new Massey Ferguson this year. This video makes me miss it. such a great tractor for us.
Ain't gonna lie back when we was growing up we heard about these. The Germans make great stuff but we was always scared of the air cooling.

Because AC wasn't all tractors, they still existed up until 2000 and a lone division(AC energy, dealing with oil and offshore oil) still exists
I have all working. 1 DX 130 1Dx 3.70 w loader 1 6265 and 1 6275 with loader
Still have a 6265. The engine/drivetrain is great. The brakes are a weak link that sucks to work on.

They are German tractos Sold in the US under new name . They we're called Deutz Fahr DX series in europe and are still common here in Germany
