  • Something as simple as a BIG BEAUTIFUL BED around a paver patio can be such a GAME CHANGER! In this video, I'm diving deep into some subtle details that you can learn to bring some serious outdoor living space to your backyard.
    1) Remove Clutter
    To have those backyard get-togethers you have to create space. I'm breaking down some easy ways to create space and get you thinking about where your outdoor living destinations are going to be.
    2) Curves
    To create some interest and bring your eye to certain areas of the backyard patio we went with curves. This draws your eye right over to a future fire pit area and a cozy little spot for a hammock.
    3) Elevations
    An existing bed was present with a tree so instead of working against the element why not enhance it? We decided to create a big beautiful landscaped bed to curve around the patio and bring some life to this boring space.

    I have a 23x 42 backyard- in a subdivision. Developors screwed up grading with backing neighbors. Even with a 7 ft fence) we see the neighbors from the waist up. Previous owners built a composite 10x30 rectangle deck and river rocked the rest where it dips. Trying to create the curves and privacy but would love a video working around these two issues

    Hi Bob, greetings from Tokyo Japan. I just found your channel. Great videos, i was tired of pinrest because of superficialities, without specific professional information and pricings. I am very interested in seasonal plants, and landscaping for elderlies, wheel chair accessibility. Most of landscaping ideas are awesome but those entrances with stairs, steps on the corner, back yard with gravel and huge stones with plants in between are beautiful but not functional for disabled people to enjoy the gardens and the calmness of landscape. Hope you can create a video specifically for this type of people and show us solutions. Thanks a bunch, am a brand new subscriber, looking forward to binge watch all your vids. Tx. 👍😊

    Can you lay out why you would cover the tree roots with soil? I have heard that compost or even mulch can be okay but that soil prevents roots from breathing.

    • @BobbyKDesigns
      @BobbyKDesigns  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely!!!! The tree roots had come out of the ground quite a bit and needed to be put back in the soil. I wouldn't recommend covering the main truck of the tree much at all but roots that are everywhere can 100% be in the ground.

    Hi bobby love the design but isn’t top soil to cover the roots bad for the tree? Are there other ways to elevate under a tree

    • @BobbyKDesigns
      @BobbyKDesigns  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @Sean Cabanez. Thank you for the question/comment! These roots were WAY above grade so burying them is actually a good thing to help keep the tree "ROOTED" (No Pun Intended) in the ground. For new plantings you don't want to "Bury" much if any of the truck. Take your fingers and carve out a small ring around the truck so that water can permeate down into the root ball. Thank you again for the comment and stay tuned for future videos with lots of cool designs and tips.

      Great question for a northern yard which may have a couple evergreens and these if valuable ie.tall White Pine need a tough strong --something-- to keep those roots low. Then you have kept the height where you want it. I have thought wires covered with the perfect rock or mulch to control stuff and nesr driveway/parking..We once managed a live in Apt .building and all they budgeted was red mulch around their average looking shrubs at entrance. Is there a good low cost all- purpose mukch?

    • @BobbyKDesigns
      @BobbyKDesigns  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lorirarich1875 Buying from bulk bins at a larger material supply store is the most cost-effective way. You can even call into those places and have them deliver dump trucks worth. Typical range for mulch is going to be between $25-$35 per yard. I am a sucker for brown or black but I think that cedar even has a place with some designs.❤️

    Hi Bobby
    Don't you think the hammock would be better on the other side of the tree.
    Create like a curved screen from the corner of the house (begin with a generous walkway first so the screen isn't hard up to the house) with some decorative herbs and butterfly attraction flowering plants. And Rose's for fragrance and beauty.
    The hammock right outside the front door looks cluttered and on its own.

    I recently found you on TH-cam.
    First off I want to thank you for all your tips help and advice I hope to implement most if not all.
    I hoping you have a suggestion that will help me.
    I just bought a four square home that hasn't been violated other than vinyl siding. The previous owners were gardeners but had no clue about landscape design.
    I do not have a backyard patio or deck out back ( front side covered porch that needs new flooring, that's in progress of repairs) but most of my yard is in the back side of house & Right now I don't have the budget to put in a paved patio .
    I did find a inside/outside rug that has lots of color and I'm hoping to use it on the grass for a year or two ( I'm in MN, so seasonally).
    Any suggestions on something cheap I could lay underneath the rug temporarily to prevent any patio furniture from going through the indoor outdoor rug.
    It is essentially polyester and poly something ( woven plastic) so it's designed for patios or decks out side.
    It was purchased at Walmart and was put next to the indoor/outdoor grass rugs, If that helps give you, general use idea.
    I would greatly appreciate a TH-cam video about how to use indoor outdoor rugs on the grass. Yes I realize it will kill the grass, that's ok because I actually do want patio pavers in this spot down the road.

    • @BobbyKDesigns
      @BobbyKDesigns  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Pat Bo. Hey there! In order for the rug to not sink and the furniture to be stable a compacted minus base would do the trick. I would separate the minus base with landscape fabric and possible add a little cushion of gravel on top. Without this, I think you're going to have trouble keeping a level/stable surface. Thank you for watching and the comment!

    • @BobbyKDesigns
      @BobbyKDesigns  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Pat L. Plant spacing depends of the bushes you select. They usually come with tags which are very helpful. I recommend used pvc for all downspouts to carry water away and if you have a real drainage issue dry creeks in the landscaping can be aesthetically pleasing and functional.

      @Tiki Tiki. I tried to pin point some tips in order to create the curves. The curves are visually shown with the camera and drone. If you were looking for a "How to Install Curves" type video I apologize. This is more for the person gathering visual ideas for their yard.

    Burying the collar of a tree is not a good solution

      @Brock Carson. I agree. We just buried the exposed roots. This tree was elevated quite a bit so no harm there.

      @Ella Pick. I agree. This one was a little too much commentary. I hope that you give me another chance as upcoming videos are going to be more dialed in. Thank you for the comment and compliment for my daughter! :)
