It does a lot of stuff quite well...aaaand it will wheelie all day long, anywhere! IMHO not for beginners.
Speed limiters are ideal for sections of road works where there's a 50mph limit which is monitored by average speed cameras. Saves you from absent mindedly wandering up to 60 and getting a ticket.
Yeah but the reason this feature exists is because the EU is mandating new cars to have automatic speed limits based on road signs. It'll go into effect in a few years.

I've a 2018 I bought new and my fuel usage is so different from yours/this new model that it seems just crazy. I get in the 25's to 28's mpg in mixed riding situations. I spend so much time at a gas station compared to anything I've had in the past and, I've had many, many bikes. However, this is possibly my favorite to date having come off a 2017 Super Duke. I find the bike so comfortable with the addition of a sport windscreen and a Corbin saddle which gives both me and my grandsons additional leg room. I find the twitchy throttle much more progressive and predictable in lower gears compared to the Duke. I noticed they went for a jar instead of the lower profile metal front brake reservoir on this model (don't like) and got rid of some of the plastic embellishments giving the bike a cleaner appearance. I love my large black and white instrument screen and still have the stock mirrors for which I must pull in my elbows for a clear rear view. I found your last segment at the board just a hoot. It was as if a stand-up comic was holding back and presenting a well thought out summary . . . it was definitely so much fun to watch.
The Gen 1 is the best blend of simplicity, fun and cost. Toss brake pads, a rear shock (Stoltec valved Penske) and a auto blip and you have an incredible street tool with modern updates.

I have a 2016 Mt10 with 50k kms and almost 100 percent original. I just added a small Puig screen. Yesterday I rode 360km to visit my son and this morning returned. The Mt10 is not a tourer but goodness SUCH a fun bike to ride! I got 200 km between fuel stops not even on reserve and she has so much grunt from low revs......
I just got into a pretty gnarly wreck with my 2018 MT09. Just crossed over 10k miles on it, bought it factory new back in the day. I’d say a good 1000 of those miles were just on the rear tire. I loved that bike more than I loved myself. It’s pretty well done for. The engine is in good shape but the rest of the bike is done for. Frame is bent, fork tree is cracked, one of the wheels is exploded.. and for not wearing a helmet (I was out for a “jaunt”, though it is no excuse) I made it out just fine. Back to normal no more than a week later. I’m drooling over the thought of having my grubby, white little hands on one of these masterpieces. Are they perfect? Absolutely not. Are they perfect for me? I think so. Heart of a liter bike, but pieced together from the parts bin. How I feel every day I wake up.
14:24 I have the bike and live in Europe and, sadly, the speed limiter is not absolutely necessary but a good thing to have. This bike makes you go fast without being even noticed and there are way too many speed cameras here. All the efforts the government makes are to take as much money as possible from drivers so you must take real care with that. Great video as always! ✌️✌️
Is first time ever on the daily ride the three coolest words I've ever seen a bike reviewer use power performance and wheelie capabilities Yamaha MT 10
I'm all for the performance and tech, but it looks like it's been crashed and reassembled from spare parts. The loose cables on the side are really anxiety inducing. Great video as always :)
It's growing on me but the Z900 does the same "streetfighter" styling thing better in my opinion and the CB1000R outshines all the Japanese naked bikes by ditching the crashed superbike look entirely.
I live in the UK. I wish all bikes had a speed limiter feature like this. It’s great. Most motorways (highways) around here are 70mph but they’re introducing all sorts of ways to catch you out including: * speed cameras every few miles * speed cameras during roadworks * average speed cameras during roadworks (usually 50mph and if you exceed that over, say, 10 miles, you get a ticket). Cruise control is great but our roads are too busy - ultimately you need adaptive cruise control otherwise you’ll be constantly turning it on/off/on/off as you ride. The speed limiter, therefore, is perfect, as it means I can set it to the legal limit of 70mph, ride normally with the throttle in traffic, and not going over the limit and worry about trigging a camera. That said, while I am generally in favour of speed cameras on smaller roads, I think it’s absolutely dangerous to put them on motorways as people keep speeding anyway but now just brake heavily for the cameras, and if there’s an accident and they drop the speed limit down to 40mph it means potentially I have to brake hard in heavy traffic to avoid getting a ticket. It’s dangerous, it’s stupid, and I feel extremely vulnerable in the car when I have to do that and it’s 100x worse on a bike.
Lover’s lane has evolved into Self-Love Lane, now with the power of automation (cruise control) and daring (scooting back on the passenger seat on a moving motorcycle)
As I watch this it's 2/22/23. I test rode a 2022 MT10 back in spring 2022. I wasn't looking for a video about motorcycles, but Yay knows me well 😉😉. Most of Zach's comments about the bike made me feel like I was Riding it again. Guess the a sign 😎
Maybe I'm just old but even the younger people I know that own sport or naked bikes hate how uncomfortable they are . After an hour most have had enough. Making a standard motorcycle that has all the power and a very comfortable seat should be an option . I am pretty much forced to ride either a cruiser or a touring bike because I go on weekend rides of 400+ miles which no one wants to do sitting on a rock
Soft? $906 later with back pad for my lady and mine is like a rock with no return policy. Feels like I'm sitting on a camel. Got the comfort seat and it's 10x better.
I've owned the older model MT10 for over 6 years and 32,000 miles. What an amazing machine. Not sure I've seen anything on this new bike that tempts me to 'upgrade' Looks I know are subjective but I just don't like the restyled front. Also if the fuel consumption really bothered me I wouldn't still have the bike. For me it's all about the crazy fun performance in a comfortable package affordable to the normal working person. Don't want any more electronics, don't want it geared up, don't want the quieter exhaust.
Variable speed limiter...I'm from the UK and my car has it. I don't use it much as it seems a bit like an answer to yesterday's problem. I can't speak for wider Europe, but in the UK there are a lot of GATSO speed cameras: which use radar to detect a vehicle, then take 2 photos a set distance apart and record the speed - leading to a penalty if its over the posted limit. A while back, you'd see strings of these along prolonged stretches of motorway (highway) with construction, where the limit had dropped from 70 to 50 or 40. The feature works well there as it stops you day-dreaming or picking up speed down a gentle slope without realizing it and passing a GATSO. Now, these GATSO stings have been replaced by ANPR (auto number plate recognition) which picks us each vehicle along a route and works out the speed between those distant points. This means a slight creep-over can be corrected with a period of sitting under the limit, and there is no specific need to fear creeping over the limit on a set piece of road just because that is where the camera is. General cruise control works just fine here. I guess if you have a local road where traffic will mean non-radar cruise is a pain, this feature could stop you accidentally passing the camera over the limit....but seems a bit of a trade off for losing the ability to scoot past (for example a cyclist in a 30 or 40 zone) without having to deactivate something first
That's why I spent a very pretty penny to completely upgrade my 2007 Suzuki Bandit. Who needs a new bike when you can get a super torquey 1250 4, with 150 on top (RWHP) which is right in line with these new bikes. Sure, you have to rebuild the engine with agressive cams, a tune, and increased compression, but it's unlike any bike I can buy now. A true analog bike.
14:15 speed limiters let you set a limit and not watch your speedo constantly. Just set the limit and go hamburgers without worrying about exceeding the limit when there's heavy police presence in the area. I've used speed limiters a lot when i'm going through an area i'm not familiar with and i don't want to glue my eyes to the speedo.
Just want to say to let y’all know, that cross plane 4 cylinder engine is my idea that i had in 1974, it works is all i care about, sounds great on TH-cam, i’m 66 years old now, and still haven’t heard the real thing run, yet!
If you want better brakes install Brembos new LA compound street pads. They are amazing and much better than the red SA compound pads for the street. This transforms these brakes into true two finger front brakes!!
Zack you are awesome, I have a 2022 mt10sp in the UK had an mt09sp for 3 years before it. Absolutely love the mt10 with a decat pipe of course you can't beat that sound and just fun fun fun...not that the 09 wasn't. Great review....every biker should have a go on an mt10 once at least.
So next spring I'm hoping (planning?) for things to work out to buy my first brand new bike. There are really 4 I'm considering: MT-09 SP, MT-10 Base, GSX-S1000GT+, and a Hayabusa. pretty diverse choices I know... If you could do a daily ride on a new 'Busa that would sure help me out!😎
What's your engine excitement? Cross-plane 4 (sounds and acts like a V4), a triple, a smooth flat-plane 4.....it's not just about the bikes, it has a lot to do with those engine configurations. Lots to like about all of them. I'd say the S1000GT and Hayabusa are going to be a wide smooth powerband that isn't' as raucous or fizzy as the two MT bikes. But sometimes that's a good thing. All depends on your mood and what you find most endearing over the longer run.
You're forgetting the key difference between the mt09 and mt10. The 09 is a triple, the 10 is an inline 4. Torque response is a bit different between the 2, as is the exhaust note. Which also plays a roll in curb weight handling, so on. It's not just a power perspective difference between the two.
As a shorter rider (5'6 30 inch inseam) I didn't think it would be that tall, pretty much one of the main reasons I bought my 2020 z900. Aside from the looks the MT checks all the boxes for me 👍
Hey mate I'm as tall (or short haha) as you. How are your feet planted on the ground with your z900? That's kinda a concern for me at the beginning with a new bike, so how do you feel on your bike? Is it much lower than the MT? Thanks dude! Ride safe
@@Mr_Phoskitos I'm not flat foot but I'm not tippy toeing either. It feels like you're riding on a sheet of glass with how smooth it is. The mt line is not my style as looks go but I'm sure they ride amazing as well. It's definitely not a beginner bike.
Great review thanks for the update on the 2022 model. I've been contemplating on upgrading to the current model from a 2018. I have to say I've been blessed and maybe a bit lucky to have the opportunity to own the first iteration of the mt10. It's been a great daily rider and I'm now loyal to yamaha the Mt series bikes, they've been a hit with me and my friends for years. This video makes me grounded in my decision to be comfortable considering on the new upgrade to the 2022/2023 . Thank you ! Have a nice day.
The Duffman of motorcycles. That’s decided it for me, I’m trying to find a replacement for my Gen 4 1000RR and want something with the fun factor but also super bike dna and that comment of yours has tipped the balance. I’ll probably regret saying good buy to the Beemer as it makes me feel alive every time I ride it but I also feel a little silly riding a 200hp bike on the roads so the MT10 it is but will go for the SP version for the added rear suspension and braided lines. Now all I will need to do is get over it’s looks and poor fuel economy but hey, it’s good to break up the rides with stops and you don’t look at the bike when you’re riding it.. As ever, thanks Zack for an entertaining review. Btw, apologies for the late review!
Brilliant! What started out as a very run-of-the-mill review was saved, ney, elevated to lofty heights by your dirt trail excursion then the questions at the end: the 2022 MT-10 has emerged from the Octagon a bloodied and laughing maniacally, still drunk on Duff, runner-up to the SuperDuke - gets my vote! 👍
The imu is worth it imo. I have the MT-09 and it’s possible the slide control saved my butt a couple times. It might have been me. I’ve been riding for a while and have some experience with a bike getting sideways. But that’s on cruisers with bias ply tires. So cold sport tires were new to me when I bought it along with wheelies. I’m not good at them but the lift control gave me a safety wall to learn how to be confident doing them. The traction control does interfere with them sometimes if you’re doing clutch ups. But it’s also not 100% fool proof. Every now and then you will get past it’s safety limit. So definitely don’t rely on it to save your butt all the time. I’ve heard of one person looping it on a power wheelie. Overall it’s still nice they’re there if you need them. Not everyone is as skilled as Zack Courts lol
Agreed. As far as I’m concerned, safety features that only activate when you’ve already gone too far have no downside unless you’re stupid enough to pretend they make you invincible.
It’s been a few days since I watched and I had a thought about the speed limiter feature. I’ve driven in Europe quite a bit and often you’ll find stretches of twisty residential roads with speed cameras along them- very unforgiving speed cameras. This feature would help if you know what’s coming and want to avoid getting a ticket in the mail, because without it it might be hard to keep the speed legal consistently
I would probably still swear by the exhaust note of Aprilia's V4, but as an owner, I'm biased. I would be eager to get a proper taste of Yam's CP4, especially with an aftermarket Akrap or similar hardware. Haven't got the pleasure yet, I am sorry to admit.
I believe the way to switch ABS off on a Yamaha is too wheelie it and press the front brake until the wheel stops, it will essentially dummy the ABS sensor and won’t let it recalibrate until the bike get’s restarted

I rode mine from Los Angeles to Salinas and then back down through Big Sur, took it to the racetrack a ton of times, commuted almost daily for 80 miles a day and rode to coffee with my wife and 2 ups out of town from LA to Joshua Tree....seriously one hell of a great bike! It does a lot of stuff quite well...aaaand it will wheelie all day long, anywhere! IMHO not for beginners.
I've just upgraded from a 2016 MT09 to a 22 MT10. Still awaiting UK delivery. Ordered in March.
Got it now and I LOVE it.
I totally and completely believe that Zack's article is the best ever. And he pointing that out is just honesty. C'mon people.
Man, your reviews are tremendous. I love them. Came across your channel suddenly a hour ago. Made a subscription after 10 minutes. Nice tests, nice skill, nice voice, nice information. Love it
My son watched the Simpsons with my wife back in the day I never was able to enjoy as they did yes, I was working most of the time when it aired, so my wife was a stay-at-home mom she has fond memories to this day. Thank you for your content.
The mileage is kinda like dating a super-model with big feet. The whole package is so good you can overlook the fault.
The Gen 1 is the best blend of simplicity, fun and cost. Toss brake pads, a rear shock (Stoltec valved Penske) and a auto blip and you have an incredible street tool with modern updates.
"Now is the time where we see if the bike will wheelie". You've never uttered a funnier line. lol.
Love my Fz10 to death. Everything besides the fuel mileage 😅
In my dreams, there'd be a "Tracer 10"...
I just bought a Tracer 9 and I wish it had just a little bit more madness. Still a great bike though.
@@henrywildin Definitely a great bike, but that "little bit more madness," would totally be the icing on the cake.
Ride Swift, Ride Safe, and Enjoy your bike, brother!
I totally agree with you man it would be great hope one day they listened and do it 😬
I have a 2016 Mt10 with 50k kms and almost 100 percent original.
Another great video. I'd love to see you do a daily ride on a ZH2.
Love these real world ride to work tests!! For me they are much much better than track days etc...
You got me good with the “NOOOO I DONT THINK SO!” - I’ll buy you a beer for that someday.
I'm all for the performance and tech, but it looks like it's been crashed and reassembled from spare parts.
The loose cables on the side are really anxiety inducing.
Great video as always :)
... transformer stuff. I don't like it.
It's growing on me but the Z900 does the same "streetfighter" styling thing better in my opinion and the CB1000R outshines all the Japanese naked bikes by ditching the crashed superbike look entirely.
They are so ugly it's unreal. I need something to be good and at least decent looking. This is just horrendous
@@nemanjap8768 agreed. Ugh. We can hope for an xsr10.
I didnt even noticed those cables and now I cant unsee them, that is terrifying
I have the 19 MT10 and I'm so jealous of that MPG.
I think we need to change sprockets evidently
I've had my first gen since 17 and love it! Clip ons transform the experience along with pads and a tune.
So would fairings
@@RyanMcIntyre lmao yeah at that point…
I live in the UK. I wish all bikes had a speed limiter feature like this. It’s great.
Most motorways (highways) around here are 70mph but they’re introducing all sorts of ways to catch you out including:
* speed cameras every few miles
* speed cameras during roadworks
* average speed cameras during roadworks (usually 50mph and if you exceed that over, say, 10 miles, you get a ticket).
Best review. My dude just took a sharp right into a dirt road to test it offroad which I never will. Thanks.
I've had the previous model for 4yrs and almost 50k kms. Never let me down, still have a chubby every time I ride her
Maybe I'm just old but even the younger people I know that own sport or naked bikes hate how uncomfortable they are .
After an hour most have had enough.
Making a standard motorcycle that has all the power and a very comfortable seat should be an option .
I am pretty much forced to ride either a cruiser or a touring bike because I go on weekend rides of 400+ miles which no one wants to do sitting on a rock
Whoever designed the front must’ve just got done watching the movie “The Fly” with Jeff Goldblum.
Love my mt10 also if you get a corbin seat it makes the passenger way more comfortable plus it's softer on your bottom as well
Who cares about the passenger? Riding beasts like this should be a personal intimate moment with you and the bike!
Soft? $906 later with back pad for my lady and mine is like a rock with no return policy. Feels like I'm sitting on a camel. Got the comfort seat and it's 10x better.
This is the bike I want. It's basically a new version of my favorite bike my Honda 919.
I had to work allll morning knowing this video was waiting for me when I got done. Thanks for the always entertaining and quality content. Cheers
I've owned the older model MT10 for over 6 years and 32,000 miles. What an amazing machine. Not sure I've seen anything on this new bike that tempts me to 'upgrade'
Looks I know are subjective but I just don't like the restyled front.
I guess if you have a local road where traffic will mean non-radar cruise is a pain, this feature could stop you accidentally passing the camera over the limit....but seems a bit of a trade off for losing the ability to scoot past (for example a cyclist in a 30 or 40 zone) without having to deactivate something first
The speed limiter sounds great for places that are full of speed cameras.
All in how much are you for the bike ? I got my 2nd hand 2016 MT10 for £6899 (coming from my still owned 04 1200 Bandit)
The only tech I would like to have on my GSXR1k is ABS. But as I rarely ride streets, I'm not too worried about it.
The 1250 Bandit has 100 bhp, not 150
14:15 speed limiters let you set a limit and not watch your speedo constantly.
I thought the CP4 engine was invented by Al Gore.
Fantastic review.
Yamaha, if you're reading this, pull the trigger on building the Tracer 10.
Yes please and make the t9 and t7 cheaper so i can buy them faster. Lmao.
As a new rider. The most impressive part of this video was the u turn he banged right in the beginning lol
I don’t own a bike, nor have I ever ridden one but I have absolutely fallen in love with this bike.
My life summed up in one sentence at the end. 'This whole fuckin thing where we sit in traffic, NOT OKAY!' LOL
I’m always psyched when I see a new Daily Rider came out 😊
That oil cooler in front of the headers doesn't seem like a wise choice 🤔🤔
Love the shadow at the start of the ride!
Fantastic videos, but can you start putting the updated list in the description please? Keep up the awesome work. 👍
So next spring I'm hoping (planning?) for things to work out to buy my first brand new bike. There are really 4 I'm considering:
MT-09 SP, MT-10 Base, GSX-S1000GT+, and a Hayabusa. pretty diverse choices I know... If you could do a daily ride on a new 'Busa that would sure help me out!😎
go with MT10
Pretty obvious difference between the two, that 99% of riders know about, including him.
Zack could you please test ride the 22 MT 10- SP version , will love to hear your review before buying one, thank you Sir!!
New GSX-S1000 a simpler and better day-to-day all rounder?
@@joeplem5329 That's awesome, thanks for the info!
idk bro im 5'4 and ride a klx 250 that's 35 inch seat height. it's livable.
I'm surprised nobody commented but it looks like he tried to trick us up by doing a evening ride to work 😅 another enjoyable daily rider experience
Love yours and Ari's content.
Why do they not put 90 degree valve stems on every bike like this?? The we could actually use those annoyingly shaped pumps at most service stations.
how to nicely tell it is not for short riders, is what i wann learn from zack
Adding some tech is also a great way to motivate why a bike should be more expensive.
Haven't watched your reviews for some time due to exogenous circumstances. But I have to say, you are one of the very best! Thanks!!!
90* valve stems can not be overstated.
Low key shocked you didn't have to make two fuel stops on the way to the office.
Hell yes
The Duff Man impression is amazing 👏
Yamaha's cross plane crank is to music to my ears.
With all the good sound commentary, don’t forget the new acoustic intake holes added. :)
If the MT-10 is Duff Man, which bike is Disco Stu?
Any chance we can get a Super Duke R daily ride episode? Late model. thx.
20:02 are those radiator fans kicking in ??
Dayum and i thought my Husqvarna was loud 😂🥲
MT-10s sound so good.
I don't own either yet I do agree that the V4 Aprilla is better than the crossplane Yamaha (which is also excellent).
The one we needed most!
That looks like a nice upgrade from my FZ6 !! Great video !!
Why no hydraulic clutch?
My motorcycle head hero - more content from Zach please
Loving the revamped lovers lane segments
Michelin is my favorite all around tire brand for sure.
I believe the way to switch ABS off on a Yamaha is too wheelie it and press the front brake until the wheel stops, it will essentially dummy the ABS sensor and won’t let it recalibrate until the bike get’s restarted
