Thank you Need Essentials for making the best surfing films of the last 40 years. The sort of stuff that inspires you to change your life. I just want you and all the surfers to know how magical these works of art are.
Awesome doc guys! Showcased the shear beauty of my home country! What doesn’t transcend is the amount of extra energy and dedication needed to strap the wetty on when it’s covered in ice, freezing, and blowing a gale! Impressive bros!
I Recently watched some footage of Bali in the 70’s and noticed a few comments particularly from younger folk saying how lucky we were back then and basically how everything has been discovered and is now crowded and shitty. so it truly warms my soul to see adventurous young guys like you2 out there just doing it with such style and simplicity. I did an NZ surf trip in the 70’s and even though it was amazing I’m truly in awe of your journey, so well shot and edited has a similar back to nature vibe of Morning of the Earth. May you continue to live in the moment, enjoy. Much respect Grahame
Just wow. I've done roadies to most of these places and spent weeks surfing them, you have captured these locations so perfectly. By the way, I don't think that hunter meant to put you wrong about Careys Hut, it's most likely that it's a difference in perception. We hike that hut all the time and I wouldn't have considered it far either. Amazing work guys, I this will take its place as maybe the best NZ surf movie I've ever seen.
Motorcycles, surfing, incredible scenery of New Zealand, goats, honey bees and Torren Martyn--what a smorgasbord of delight. Have an hour? Well worth it. I felt like I was right with them. Thank you Ishka Folkwell for creating a beautiful homage to surfers.
The best combo ever ! Surfing and Motorcycling. But these days I'm so grateful for just being alive and well just Surfskating and walking with a stick just for the heck of it. Happy to be humble.
Halfway between vlog and and old-school edit, with great production quality and editing. Finally someone who understands this current generation and what viewers want. The view count shows and supports this too. We want a great story and narration and the stuff between great surf clips. If i wanted just great surf footie I’d just log into Instagram. This type of storytelling and filming perfectly flexes the what the longer TH-cam format and platform is made for. Also I’m Fuckin over typical north shore and indo sessions. There’s countless videos from today all the way into the 50’s with footage from those regions.
What a fantastic film. Great cinematography, editing, scenery, epic surfing and I love those bikes. Torren Martyn is the most stylish surfer besides Rasta.
Lockdown ends tomorrow morning so us Aucklanders will be waxing up our boards & exploring this beautiful nation we call home. Thanks for getting this on film, it really is quite a scenic place to ride waves. Aroha from Aotearoa🗿🌴😎💯🗿
Beautiful piece of work. You've captured and shared the spirit of why we surf: the lifestyle, adventure, moods of my home. I did a solo road with hand made racks on my Suzuki 175 in 1984, only 3500km. You guys travel in style; that's inspiring.
Being in a dark headspace these films would fill me with a sense of calm. The feeling of being on an adventure while watching these films really helped me escape my own mind while it was trying to destroy itself. For this hour I could forget what was going on and remember how great life can be. I'm alot better recently, just greatful for little glimpses of hope while in that space. So Thanks guys still enjoy rewatching every now and then too ❤
Wow guys.. such an amazing film to watch. A tip of the hat to both of you for great cinemaphotography and surfing. I was genuinelly happy for you guys when you checked into the hotel for hot showers and dry conditions. Awesome adventure and such a welcome piece of surf movie creation in a world of corporate surf trips and logos everywhere plus those ruddy energy drinks(... that stuff will rot ya teeth). 5 stars all the way! NZ is majestic.
Quite possibly. One of the best surf films I’ve ever seen So good for the soul. Plus you have to admit THE BRO has style for Dayyyzzz. It was an honor to watch
Honestly the best surf film I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Two phenomenally talented young lads on a true adventure. Rarely do films in this category live up to expectations let along exceed them in every possible way. Well done! I hope you keep travelling, surfing and making honest beautiful films. Bravo!
The bros from Byron Bay have created a great work of film-travel-surf-documentary! A pleasure to behold, especially if you are a fan of New Zealand, north and south islands, the beauty and the remote surf they find!
Thank you for the inspiration, for the journey, for the combined gifts of cinematography, sound recording and for the edit. Please publish the sound track! A truly special, finely crafted addition to the surf film genre. You guys rock..
You can find the sound track by Headland here: headland.bandcamp.com/album/lost-track-new-zealand-soundtrack and Nick Bampton here: open.spotify.com/album/0LuKrVRqI9fh1oEPmnwjan?si=6govg8cwShGkCo_9juEIEw
As a teen I watched the surfers in California at Santa Cruz, & every surf movie I can find, I watch. I loved the Aussie flick” Breath”. An older surfer reluctantly takes two kids under his wing & tries to teach them to push their own limits. Beautiful scenery.
Ishka and Torren, thanks so much. This is so inspiring! Ishka, the cinematograhy was mind-blowing taking in account the levels of fatigue you guys have been through. Watched the whole thing in one go. Absolutely loved that it wasnt like any other surf movie with seamless surf compilation. True story, down to earth, no hipster flex.
Memories that can never be taken away.... I’m 63 and loved it..... also own an Enfield amongst others...... freedom is getting harder to find you got your slice.
Epic adventure for sure! What a pleasure to watch it just now here on the Northern California coast --- dead of winter, midst of pandemic, crowded lineups . . . thanks Torren and Ishka and needessentials too!
This is only my second watch by Need Essentials and I am now a life long subscriber. These films are absolutely amazing and a great capture of being a surf traveler. Spreading the best stoke!!!
Started watching on my Phone .. after 5 minutes I had to pause to turned on the Computer to sit back and watch it on a bigger screen....... incredible Lads !
The best film of NZ and the best surfing film I've seen, ever. Absolutely brilliant work on the camera and in the water. Thank you for an inspirational film.
Currently all about living our dreams and weaving those dreams with others. I bought my first motorcycle here in Nicaragua, a Honda XR 200 dirt bike. I had never ridden a motorcycle before buying this machine though having wanted to learn for the last 5 years. Nicaragua gave me the liberty of not needing to take a test. I've travelled up to the north coast after being offered a job to share yoga for surf retreats. I am from Cornwall uk, but I've never learnt to surf for real. Being out here in the water with so many other female surfers, living for free, sharing my energtic healing practice as well as practices on the mat, for mind body emotion and spirit. Each and every day I know I am blessed to share what I have to share and receive all the gifts of life, from being a fully devoted, intentional and loving being. Bless up chicos, super good to see your journey, your grace and ease in every situation. I have never travelled to NZ but it reminds me of Cornwall and Hawai'i combined. Bless up Pachamama. Would love a review of the soundtrack! Peace and love to all yew
Hi from Plymouth, UK . Chicana . It's Boardmasters here in The UK this coming weekend in August . I am watching this movie , it's quite interesting . Actually , my sister visited New Zealand and said it was the best place she ever went to and she bought a round The World ticket o my advice. She's been to loads of places. An ambition perhaps inherited from our Grandmother . Who thought it was good to travel and be Adventurous . Certainly society benefits from the adventures of a few brave Scouts . I hope they all find a place to settle one day and experience some happiness.
Amazing! Torren is my favorite surfer and to see him riding the ups and downs of my homeland on a bike and board was an emotional journey for me. Ehara koe i a ia!
I really enjoyed this film. I’m not even much of a surfer but really enjoyed it. The scenery is beautiful and the surfing was great. I really like Torren’s surf style. The music was awesome. Just a great vibe overall. I felt like I was watching a piece of art. Very relaxing and meditative. 👍🏼🤙🏽😎
What a beautiful film. Thank you needessentials and the boys for putting together a picture that encapsulates what it is to be a surfer, an adventurer, and a lover of nature.
Wow! Thanks for this video, being in our 60's now, and still very fit, this brought nostalgia to a carefree time in our lives. We are both believers in yeshua now, and have been through a lot in our lives. You just brought some joy to our hearts today, because over time in one's life.... We seem to just complicate life...and it doesn't need to be that way. We are praying to have a larger property of land where people like you can come and feel safe to crash out on your journey, without paying, but where you are able to enjoy our country and our hospitality. Thanks, I needed that.
Just reminiscing...Growing up as a young kid back in the early mid 70's..Just left school early to take up a job offered to me in a local board making factory...So we made our own boards.Surfing new discoveries on the NSW Far South Coast in Australia.. In Winter and with very little wetsuit coverage...Just living out the back of your older mates Bomb Car.. In the Coastal Bush...Surfing Reefs n River Mouths...REAL Surfing adventures...65 now and still SurfForLife. Cheers love ya Work.
Thank you Need Essentials for making the best surfing films of the last 40 years. The sort of stuff that inspires you to change your life. I just want you and all the surfers to know how magical these works of art are.
