Absolutely brilliant video as it provides very succinct and yet detailed information on how to use the LES Saab 340 autopilot system. I have recently spent a lot of time learning how to fly the Zibo 738 & 739 aircraft to the point of being reasonably confident, but when it came to the Saab 340 and its autopilot, I really struggled. Your videos therefore and particularly this one, have been of great help to me. Well done :-)
hi Sjoerd ....I also got me the newly released Carenado SAAB and now I was watching this tutorial to refresh the routine....best 340A tutorial on You Tube..thanx again
It is very Carenado of course....it looks good.....it sounds good,it has more systems coded than I am expecting from Carenado. The LES SAAB is deeper. But I have to do more flights to be able to tell .Well.......I like both ,because I just like flying this aircraft. The LES SAAB is type 340A and the Carenado 340B ......different but very similar.
Best Tutorial. You've explained it perfectly and i had much to learn. Great that you've done a VOR Navigation and not only GPS. And to get all the knobs and switches of the autopilot so in depth explained, helped me a lot. Thanks for you tutorial. I think i will take a look what your channel has to offer :)
Ah dank je Sjoerd voor deze speciale tutorial ....echt geweldig ...by the way ....ik ben zwaar blij met alle X plane nieuwe scenery ontwikkelingen met ORBX en Fly Tampa....alles komt er zoveel beter uit te zien
That's an awesome tutorial I loved it it helped me so much in my troubles with this aircraft I only completed one full flight and looking at this video just taught me something especially corrected my mistakes in flying this amazing aircraft
superb tutorial ......Leading Edge once created this in depth wonderful simulation ( one of the best in X-plane) of a unique aircraft and I doubt it was widely picked up by X-plane users ,because of its rather complicated unusual systems and like I said .....you don’t find many You Tube videos on it .....hope your video not only clarifies a lot for me ,but for everybody who is willing to try this marvellous masterpiece by Leading Edge
Great tutorial flight. Keep up the good work. Just a small tip, if I may. For the VOR part you could fly a radial from the VOR, not just to a VOR. So from Ioannina you could have dialed the 062 course with YNN tuned in and it would have taken you to Larissa, or at least close enough, until you were within range of the LAR VOR. A small correction may have been necessary due to magnetic variation after switching VOR source, but this is common when you do VOR to VOR navigation. Nevertheless, great work mate.
Thanks for this ........... I am only 6 minutes into the video, and you have solved my problem. This saves me looking like a noob and posting my issue in the official forum. I did my first flight today into Dushanbe (Tajikistan). I did a VOR/Visual approach, disconnecting the autopilot a good 5 miles from the threshold. For the next 15 minutes, all through the landing and the taxiing to the gate, that damn autopilot disconnect warning was driving me mad. It was a big distraction for a maiden flight/landing in an unfamiliar aircraft, I was looking all around the flight deck trying to discover how to cancel the warning. Was this a landing configuration warning perhaps? No ........... just an autopilot disconnected warning. I never thought of looking at the stick. The irony being that I used the big red button on my Logitech yoke to disconnect the frigging autopilot in the first place! Cheers :-)
Great info! You explain some of the complex settings in this one. Not just a fly-by review like what all others do. I have a question. Did you get the correct TQ readings aginast the X-Aviation performance charts provided? For example cruise power with PRPM1250-1330 / ISA stnd / AI OFF / ECS ON / MTOW 24K - do you get the correct TQ as per the charts? Thanks
Thanks fir this tutorial too. I knew a lot of it, but you demystified the climb button for me! Nice landing; I still have troubles getting the plane on the centre line... Doe nog verder zo, het is altijd boeiend!
roland rayar You can set RNAV approaches in the GPS, but it will only fly the lateral part on autopilot. Vertical and forward speed have to be controlled by the pilot since there’s no autothrottle on board.
@@0321Sjoerd Hi VERY NICE TUTORIAL I DISCOVER TODAY AS I AM RETIRED AND VERY HELPFULL I WANT JUST TO KNOW WHERE TO FIND THE MANUAL PDF FREE CAUSE I CAN T AFFORD ME TO BUY IT THANK YOU VERY MUCH PER ADVANCE BEST REGARDS
dahou kamal PDF is included in the download when you buy the add-on. I don’t support pirates with free documents. Software piracy is theft and thus illegal. Glad you liked the video though.
I just noticed your gauges are nice and clear, I hesitated to buy this plane because of the "Hazy" or "cloudy" gauges glass. Does this mean you can turn that cloudy glass off?
Superb, thanks so much! Have just purchased the 340B and this was a brilliant overview. Very much appreciated the VOR inclusion as well. One question - does approach mode work for GNSS RNAV approaches as well as ILS?
No it does not as RNAV approach are fed by GPS so it needs to be loaded via FMS and flown with LRN, NAV mode. Keep in mind as well that SAAB 340 is only approved for LNAV meaning you need to use VS for descent.
Brian Pfeiffer Yes sir! There's a two part series about a full flight from Norwich to Amsterdam. Here's part 1, I'm sure you'll find part two after that: th-cam.com/video/ZgzXoJjkPxw/w-d-xo.html

Dumb question from a non-pilot - why are you entering a heading from the chart from one way point to the next? I thought these are VOR's - directional transmitters that you fly to, so why would you have to enter the heading to it? Shouldn't the plane fly directly to that VOR based on the directional radio signal? Sorry if this is a dumb question!
Derrick Nedzel It's not a dumb question. The strength of the transmitter & signal differs from VOR to VOR. The stronger the signal, the farther out you can receive it. The VOR's in this flight were quite weak, so I was still out of range to receive the signal. That's why I looked up the course between the two VOR's so I would fly in the right direction and I could pick up the signal from the VOR once I was in range. Another and more accurate way would have been to switch to the GPS and have the autopilot follow the programmed route in there. But that simply just occured to me after shooting the video. ;-)
I don't know but this aircraft's cockpit looks like shit compared to the Carenado one. Yes , yes I know it is more realistic but they could really make the textures a little better.
Many thanks for an excellent tutorial for the 340. You have made flying this aircraft so much more enjoyable.

This looks like a really nice plane. Are the knobs all click and drag or are they also 'mousewheel'? I'm not a fan of click and drag at all.
From what I remember it's mostly click and drag. Haven't flown this wonderful add-on for a while...
@@0321Sjoerd Too bad. Seems like devs are moving away from that method but it's taking time.
@@greggseipp Yup, it's a wonderful add-on nonetheless.

Games TV it was first released in 2013 on X-Plane 10. Graphics could do with an update, but I would still choose it over the Coronado one.
