Happy to see it still stands. I get so upset when these grand old houses are demolished.

Ken, when I saw "Pink Palace" in the title of the video I thought you were going to be talking about Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Hargitay's house in Hollywood! It would be quite a house for your channel: carpeted bathroom walls and ceiling; office with red tufted leather (?) on the walls, ceiling AND desk; mirrored headboard over the bed; heart-shaped swimming pool and overall an over-the-top place. I believe the house was demolished in recent years and replaced with a Starbucks or some-such. Something (else) unusual about the house, and if my memori is correct, is that even though it was built before the stock market crash of 1929, I believe Hargitays in the late 1950's were the first full-time residents.

Again, as a DC native, I have probably seen that house many times, as it is on 16th Street, a major thoroughfare. I looked at it on Google Maps; it would have seemed like just another big building used by an international agency. I certainly did not know that Marshall Field had a connection to DC, as I associate his name with Chicago.

There were also two mansions in Queensland, Australia dubbed “the pink palace”. One was at a place called St Lucia which was a rather gaudy modern take on old world charm and has been demolished and another beautiful one still stands along the Brisbane River at Norman Park, it’s been a source of fascination and rumours for as long as I can remember, hidden behind gates and only really visible from the back across the river.. I’ve never seen photos of the interiors but I imagine in her heyday she was something quite special and hopefully she’s been maintained.. thanks for another great video 🙂 she was quite the collector, judging by the photos she had a life well lived..

How true. How about cloudland, ripponlea, Werribee house, Como house, Smithfield homestead in Toowoomba, I love hearing about all the different houses, be great if an occasional Aussie place was featured. Ripponlea, it's got fascinating history and still standing. It's such a shame that old grand houses are pulled down. Rescue and repurpose I say

My favorite space is the informal entertaining room with the "lower ceiling" meaning nothing less than 10 feet . The less formal fireplace mantel and large area carpet add to the more intimate feeling.

If you are ever looking for a house/home to feature, think about looking into the Tinker's Swiss Cottage in Rockford, IL. The house was built between 1965 to 1870 and is still standing to this day. It is currently owned by the Rockford Park District and is run as a museum open to the general public. The house is furnished with much of the original furniture. Not as big as some of the mansions that you typically feature, but this particular house is very unique and full of history.

    Enjoyable video.
The bulk of Marshall Field's $150 million estate went into a trust for his grandson Marshall Field III, not to his 2nd wife. [Marshall, Jr reportedly shot himself. He was actually shot at the Everleigh Club (Chicago's most high class bordello) and brought back to his mansion to die!] The S. Prairie Avenue mansions of Marshall Field Sr. (Richard Morris Hunt architect, but demolished) and Jr. (now several large condos) which were next door to each other would make a good video.Note: palazzo is pronounced as "palatzo"

Beautiful home and history, thank you.
When I lived in DC many years ago, white people who valued their lives did not frequent that part of the city or even pass through there at all if it could be avoided (and it easily could be, because there was nothing there but a very rundown residential neighborhood), so I only traversed it one or two times in four years. I only remembered there were a lot of stately old buildings, but they were all very rundown and decidedly past their prime at best. Sadly, it was not a place to linger to appreciate the architecture. I need to be sure to go out there next time I’m back because I know it’s changed substantially.
The name Delia, however, is pronounced “DEEL-ya”, not “de-LIE-uh.” Seriously?
