    The film somehow allowed for me to somewhat sympathise with Roy Cohn. A crazy, believable movie.

      Yeah, that was something that genuinely surprised me as well. I didn’t necessarily want to sympathize with him, but I’m glad that I did because I think it gave him the most powerful arc of all.

      Dear God, why?
      That's like feeling sympathy for Ted Bundy in the electric chair.
      Cohn didn't pull the trigger om Ethal Rosenberg but... People he harrassed through the McCsrthy lost their lives- did any commit suicide.
      A self-hating gay man who was a predator of other gays
      Why?

      @@EepyHarmony I absolutely agree! In a weird way the title of the movie is very smart, but it’s definitely gonna be hard to differentiate between the two in the search bar. 😂

    You kept using the phrase "I'm not interested in politics" or a variation therein, and I think you should be very careful with that mind frame. Even if you're 'not a political person,' politics definitely have a huge effect on your life. It's also like ringing a dinner bell for bad actors to want to come in and sway you into some very dark ways of thinking, dressed up as "unpolitical." Please stay wary, for your own sake.
    Personally, I think it's a shame this movie was made now. It won't be judged neutrally, no matter how neutral it may or may not be, because the political climate is still too hot for it. Even a few more months delay could have helped. Even then, no matter how technically well it was made, no matter how good the cinematography is, politics currently make it too-hot-to-handle.

    • @DylanAnglin_

      That statement is very fair, although when it comes to the video itself I have no interest in politics in terms of talking about a movie. I am a registered voter, but my views, thoughts, etc are exclusive to me and my thought process.
      I agree, this film should have been a 2025 release. I think it would have went over better.

    • @xxJETSETxx
      @xxJETSETxx หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@DylanAnglin_ That's fair! It is an inherently political film, in this the year 2024, even more than the standard 'all art is political' way. The director may have wished to do an unpolitical take, but by releasing it now, to ignore the politics of it, can only be hamstringing. C'est la Vie! The cinematography and acting does sound very good.

      @@xxJETSETxxif all art is political what is the political message of Tetris?

    • @vonskii
      @vonskii หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @bigboydancannon4325 i believe the point jetset was trying to make is everything is influenced by politics, and politics influences art. It's not that all art has a political message per se. Tetris is a game of it's time and place... just how Japanese and American games had their own styles. That's my understanding at least.

    Movie reminded me A-LOT of Abel Ferrara. NY City period piece. Also Jeremy Strong can't help but be a better Roy Cohn than Pachino; just due to physical type.

    Releasing this film right now is highly irresponsible. From the trailer it makes it seem like the issue with trump is that hes rude and vulgar. Those arent the issues with him, his issues are politically motivated, not his personality.

    Very interesting review. I’ve heard similar takes. The director intended to go beyond a binary take on Trump and depict him with some nuance. Certainly character matters (Trump has less than ideal one, but how was his character developed is a fascinating endeavor. He was on democracy now today talking about the project (th-cam.com/video/rZuZs-MehQo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=txbjaWhNq5JwTBSN)
    There’s a documentary on Roy Cohn that is great.

    I would like to know where you get the figure "90% true". Did you make that up by yourself? Do you believe what the production said? Ridiculous.

    • @DylanAnglin_
      @DylanAnglin_  หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      “Let’s just say the film was fictionalized a little bit, but then there was a lot of truth. You could say the film is 90% true and 10% exaggerated.” Nowhere did I say I obtained a figure, nor did I say I made it up myself.

      @@DylanAnglin_ I was asking if it was one or the other. In my opinion it's ridiculous either way, when you affirm without sources that it's 90% true; from your response it looks like i was right, you are blindly believing from the producers or the director or the actors that that figure is reliable. I don't buy it

      @andrepadez I saw The Apprentice, his assessment that it’s 90% factual is spot on. If anyone followed the Trump saga, the film is very accurate, pulled from various interviews, events, and legal documents. It was a very good movie, it’s not a movie to sway a voter. It’s not what the film is about at all. It’s an origin story and is about relationships through and through. Watch it. There are moments that are predictable such as the final scene but it was no where in the vicinity of political satire. For you to attack the critic and throw out the notion that it’s based on facts when clearly the writing is pulled from information that you can clearly get from TH-cam of old interviews of Trump and his circle and from history shows your biases.

    • @andrepadez
      @andrepadez หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kateg1579 I am definitely going to watch it. I am a staunch Trump supporter and i don't really care if the movie was or was not made with the intention of destroying whatever bit of reputation he has. I am sure it will be great movie, from the actors, to the director, and i actually liked the review from Dylan here, i think it correctly focused on the cinematic merits, What i don't agree with is even the possibility of that "90%" figure, wherever it's coming from. I am sure the movie will focus a lot on his personal life and, to reach 90% accuracy, one would have to be a fly on the wall on all those events to reach that percentage. Even if you're relying on testimony from people who "were in the room", you can't blindly trust it as "accuracy"
