London 1981 archive footage

Archival footage shot by an amateur filmmaker while visiting England probably in 1981.
It contains stock footage of London: views from a double decker bus windows while passing on Westminster Bridge, the House of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and Victoria Memoria, the Government Offices Great George Street, the Methodist Central Hall Westminster, Westminster Abbey, the Admiralty Arch, Trafalgar Square, traffic and pedestrians in the West of London, Piccadilly Circus, an outdoor market in Berwick Street (Soho), St Paul Cathedral, the Tower Bridge under restoration, Piccadilly Circus billboards at night, and more.
The film was probably shot on September 1981 for a few reasons:
05:38 - Advertisements for "The French Lieutenant's Woman," directed by Karel Reisz, which was set to be released in London on October 15, 1981.
05:44 - The Trocadero is still under construction, and it was expected to open in 1984.
05:59 - 06:14 - The play "Educating Rita" by Willy Russell had been running at Piccadilly Theatre from August 19, 1980, to September 1982.
08:01 - The high-level walkway of the Tower Bridge will be opened by the Lord Mayor on June 30, 1982. "From tomorrow, the public will be able to go inside the twin towers of the bridge and cross it by high-level walkways, which will be reopened." However, in these shots, the bridge is still under large-scale reconstruction.

At that time I was a frequent visitor to central London and this brings back a lot of memories. Shots of Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament etc., look much the same whatever the era, but the street scenes really evoke the early 80s. It doesn't seem that long ago to me now, though -- getting old..
