      He isnt right about stopping in neutral, its dangerous to do that in bad weather, when roads are slippery or icy, so dont do that, just leave it in whatever gear it was and keep ur leg on clutch fully... then when u have fully stopped, u can put neutral, dont do what he says, cuz when cars are in neutral they have much less control. And its advised to put in either first or second gear, not third or fourth, so what u do if u know there is a stop sign or traffic light turning red way after u, u adjust the gear level and slowly stop, if u cant slowly stop do it in the gear u were driving at, meaning if u are in fourth or third gear stop at that gear if u are really close and cant switch gear on the time... Idk if people gonna see this, but thats what instructors advised me at driving schools, and i switched driving school cuz of a bad instructor... And what he says about stalling, dont worry i still stall sometimes even after finishing driving school, u just need time to adjust to the car, and every car is different with the break point...
      And i dont srly understand why did he and others try to learn people in usa while in traffic, that is seriously stressfull and stupid. if she were to make any kind of mistake it would be dangerous to other drivers and herself... what u do is like in any driving school, u go somewhere quiet with no cars, some parking lot, or some alley out of town, and u first learn the person to go first gear and reverse, then u learn them to change from first to second, and then u go onto road but with as less as it is possible of traffic... its seriously stressful and i know how she felt, even though she got the basics quickly its dangerous to do this... he could have made 2 part video or more parts of the video... Sad to say this, but this just makes it more depressing for me to watch American drivers. Judging from internet they are so much more worse... here in my country they drive faster than allowed in city but at aleast know what they are doing i guess, even though they are id*ots for doing that...

    One small detail, Parker: Next time, ask your sister to put the seat closer to the steering wheel. When there was a footage of when she was pressing clutch pedal, her leg was almost straight. That may cause very fast fatigue and soreness after a drive for one hour in the city. If she puts the seat a little closer, and then test the clutch and see that her leg is still bent and feels comfortable enough to press it fully- then here you go:)

    Stopping: what is this nonsense?? No, you don't have to put in neutral, neither did you have to downshift to first gear. You just press the clutch and the brake pedal at the same time (clutch is only needed before full stop), and you stop. After you stopped, you put to neutral. It would be very-very dangerous to stop if you should wait every time until you put to neutral or to 1st gear. (European, driving for 20 years).

      @@00243Shawn He is probably saying that, if you are cruising in a high gear, for example in 5th gear, you slow down way quicker if you downshift from 5th, than 4th, than 3rd etc while pushing the brake pedal.
      This way you get both the brakes and the engine brake together.
      If there isn't much traffic, downshifting this way you can easily drive without even touching the brake pedal until you get to a really low speed.
      I don't think that he wanted to say that you can engine brake in neutral (because, as you said, you can't)

    Parker, I'm sorry to have to correct you (again) on "manual" driving, but you should never put the car into neutral before deciding to brake. You need to be braking whilst still in gear to allow the engine to help you slow down, just as your automatic transmission would be doing automatically. You only press the clutch when coming to a stop, or changing down gear, if you may not be fully stopping. You don't want to rely on just brake discs alone for slowing down. They get very hot and may cause brake-fade and excessive wear. All that being said, your sister did really well.

    • @s9dsd
      @s9dsd 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Yes, I wrote the same, it is absolute nonsense what he says about stopping.

    • @MCA0090
      @MCA0090 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      My sister always put the car in neutral when she starts braking and is going to a full stop, she does that to stop in every red light in the city traffic.... 20 years doing that and she never had a problem and I personally see no difference between brake in neutral or braking in 4th or 5th gear in low speeds, the engine braking is very weak in this condition, unless if you are going at 80km/h or faster...
      If you compare to automatic cars, brake pads wear much faster than in a manual version of the same car because the transmission keeps que RPMs so low during a brake that it is almost like braking in neutral, every time I drive an AT car I feel that I need to press the brake pedal harder than in a manual car and when you aren't accelerating it feels like a manual car in neutral or in 5th or 6th gears contantly engaged (very weak engine braking force in low RPMs).

    • @HighHoeKermit
      @HighHoeKermit 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@MCA0090 Yeah I think you'll find the British driving tests, started in 1935, are considered to be one of the most comprehensive in the world and it's not been recommended to be in neutral at ANY point whilst the car is moving for many many years... and my driving test was in 1990! This is from the RAC (Royal Automotive Club) website - "It used to be quite a common practice to try to save fuel by taking your car out of gear when driving down hills and slopes, but the fuel system in modern cars means that coasting is no longer beneficial to energy efficiency.
      Not only that, it’s also unsafe as you don’t have full control over the car when it’s in neutral.
      It means you can’t suddenly accelerate out of a sticky situation and you lose engine braking, running the risk of overheating the brakes when going downhill."
      So you can tell your sister she's wrong, from me and the Queen!

      Slowing down with gear on and without pushing clutch saves a lot of fuel. As you are slowing down you can feel when the car starts "pushing", which means fuel is again being used, that's when you press clutch, because if you don't it's soon going to stall.
      This is simply to achieve better fuel economy, which is more important than saving your break pads.

    No need to shift to neutral everytime you stop, just put it in first gear and keep the clutch pedal pressed. That way it’s easier to drive away again, just release the clutch again.

      That wares the clutch a lot

      Keeping the clutch pedal pressed in while stopped, especially for longer stops will wear out your throw out bearing faster.

      Horrible advice unless you like replacement parts. I've been driving a manual since I was 15 and only changed one clutch because my Cobra was modified.

    The way I like to take off (the way I was taught) is to keep your foot on the brake and ease off the clutch until the engine RPMs drop a little bit (you feel it), then just release the brake and the car creeps exactly like an automatic (especially handy when maneuvering). Keep the clutch in that position until you get at full creeping speed and then let it off at once. If you have to accelerate, just keep the clutch partially down for a couple of seconds, then let it off.
    No stalling, no jerking.

      That works if you have a low end torque for example a diesel engine or a bigger displacement engine
