I thought it was very encouraging, and beautifully put together.. truthful and honest.
I'm not black but my 4 children are homeschooled because of the failures present today in the public education system. My children probably didn't experience near the number of issues that people in black communities have dealt with for longer than I can imagine. I'm glad to see though, a story like this. People are waking up to the fact that they cannot depend on the government to do for their children what they would want for their children. I say Amen and Praise The Lord for this.
I have a friend who is white who I suggested she home school her kids after she told me one of her kids got covid from the school and they had no covid protocols for the school. So I told her they don't care abt any of the kids safety and she should consider home schooling them.
Yess alot of people are recognizing the failures and pulling their kids out. I'm BW and some of the groups I belong to were very diverse.

I did homeschooling 1978- 2002 (4 sons). Lots of work but totally worth the time. We used a system where we could reuse the school work. Back then we paid about $200 per grade level. No internet but lots of public library materials. 3 of my sons entered the Marines without having to study to pass the entrance test. They to this day are very self motivated to keep on learning.

People actually have to study to pass a test with a minimum score of 31?! I passed the first time with a 97 score but then I went to elementary and middle school in another country.
I was abused as a child by a neighborhood boy that became a Marine. And that's nothing against your kids. Just watch out who you hold as pillars of the community. Fire chiefs son at that. My voice will not be silenced.
It doesn't cost much to homeschool. There are lessons everywhere for free. Online, libraries all around us.

Yes. When we first started homeschool it cost us about 70 per child to start. Now we use school house teachers and it cost $250 a year for the whole family to have access

@@cat56789 it should be taught in the homes period. Home schooling or not. I went to public schools my whole life AND my mom taught us Black history. Most Black parents don't teach that which I learned early on.
@@cat56789 I am white, but it was extordinary that I got to go to a school that taught black history. Most of it was review, but if a local texas public school taught what I learned up north in private non denominational school, the white parents would riot. I feel sad that my son will not have a quality education unless I teach him rigoursly during the summer, and I mainly want to send him to elementary for socialization. I'm sorry that black kids do not feel loved and are being marginalized by public schools. It's very good to see positive stories about good things happening to them, and I hope public schools get better

That is absolutely not our experience so don't be scared away by that.
I came to say the same thing! This is my first year homeschooling and we started on Monday. We definitely haven’t spent anywhere near that amount
High-school costs can become this high but it is unnecessary. Also if you teach more than one student, you often use curriculum over. In this way, even for an expensive program, you only pay once. Elementary and even middle school never cost this much! Buy used curriculum!

@CC. LL I have 5 and have homeschool for free multiple years. Other times I will spend money on materials, but they are never MUST haves.
As a black person who went to private school I think it can be equally as traumatizing as public school you just don’t hear people talk about it for a reason. If this was an option for me I would have liked to try.
I’m black went to public school but a lot of my cousins and POC friends who went to private schools tell me it was rough. They faced a lot more racism than I did. It really depends on the school.
I have friends and acquaintances who have black children struggling with numerous issues inherent with being one of few POC in their private schools, yet their parents still see homeschooling as beneath them. They've totally bought into this country's failed institutions.
Yes! Private schools are just as bad for Black children as public schools.
Still remember the 5th grade public school teacher who claimed enslaved Africans were treated like family by plantation owners. After learning the atrocities of slavery as an adult, I couldn't help but think how hostile the current educational system is for the self-esteem of black children and Red states are doubling down on the lies.
Did you also know that slave owners were Democrats? The republican party was founded to prevent slavery from spreading to other states. The lies are much larger than most people realize.
That’s what I recall too. I’m in high school and namely, I was at the best public high school in Chicago - Whitney Young Magnet at the time in the late 90s. I couldn’t understand why my US History teacher who was black was teaching me from a textbook that made it seem as if slave owners were nice to slaves and occasionally teaching them to read and write, allowed them to have families, and gave them shelter and food. I wondered why they downplayed the atrocities and couldn’t understand why they made slavery sound like fun singing away and working in the fields with plantation owners treating them like family. It’s not just the way that it’s portrayed in textbooks but even in an environment where majority of my teachers were African American (AA), the principal was AA, and 9/10 of my fellow class mates were AA did not correct it…. Worse… I was not brave enough to ask or bring it up since I was a different race and did not want to be perceived at racially insensitive. Long story short… I wish they would burn those misleading textbooks already and portray history accurately.
Choosing a history curriculum that's not "white washed" has taught me so much. Homeschooling is going to change this country in the next 10-20 years.
Additionally you can inspire them with the amazing stories of smart, articulate, educated, hard-thinking, crafty, and ingenious black people who dig their way out. Then how debilitating and evil those Jim Crow laws were. Those folks were roll models for all Americans, but they don’t seem to be emphasized either. Homeschooling is the best.
@@steff9041 Those southern Democrats famously switched to Republicans and have never come back since the Democrats decided to champion desegregation in schools - they are now the foundation of the modern GOP. If you're going to quote history don't be selective about it. This is why we need better education in schools.

My husband and I have been home-schooling for two years after a few years of private school. We love the flexibility of being about to create our curriculum that includes banking, entrepreneurship, sustainable living and so much more.

That sounds like fun, you should also include music classes... and explore more of the arts, anthropology, paleontology, marine biology to give your child a more diverse upbringing that they may enjoy
We’re homeschooling and it’s great. We’re all rested, & the kids are loving it. Public schools are not equipped to teach our children. They only learn how to memorize. Also, school shootings have me terrified. My kids actually like science, gardening, cooking & reading

any tips w teaching a toddler who is 4?
When my twins were at the ages of 3 and 4, I started teaching them at home. I didn't have a lot of time because I worked a full-time job, so I used some of the times after I got off of work, on Saturdays and summer breaks to teach them. They didn't qualify for Headstart (the free public program for preschoolers) because I made too much money, so I googled what they needed to know in kindergarten and started teaching them. I printed worksheets that they would spend about 10-15 minutes doing for 4 or 5 days a week. I read books to them daily, and I let them play educational games on the computer or tablet for 30 minutes for 4 or 5 days a week. They also watched educational cartoons sometimes. By the time they were 5 years old and had to take the kindergarten test to see what they came in knowing, the teachers thought they were gifted because they did so well on these tests! It did not take a lot of time for me to teach them. I made learning fun and included trips to the library and other fun, hands-on activities. I really enjoyed teaching them myself.
I did the same with my son. To this day, he is a strong disciplined student. His teachers always tell me that they appreciate having him in the classroom because they know that he comes to learn. Unfortunately, when my daughter came along everyone spent a lot of time doting over her and trying to baby her. She also was only in kindergarten (lots of playing and singing) the pandemic hit. So, when I decided to send them back to the school building last year she didn't adjust as well because she didn't like the classroom sizes, the bullying or having to do so much "hard work" all day. I switched her to private school this year and she absolutely loves everything about it. I asked her why she liked it so much and she said "less people, less trouble". She also said that she loves that her teacher is brown like her. Unfortunately at her old school, all the teachers and staff members that the children saw regularly were white. They didn't recognize Black History month nor did they include people of color in their curriculum (except for Martin Luther King)... until I spoke up. I appreciate the principal for taking the steps to correct a wrong, but it's frustrating to know that inclusion didn't really exist. Unfortunately by the end of the school year that principal retired but they did hire an African American assistant principal. My daughter came home so excited.
Sacrifices are usually hard, but also usually worth it.
I pulled my daughter out of kindergarten mid year because I was really unhappy with the school.
I had no supplies and scrambled getting books to teach her reading … making my own flash cards etc.
I homeschooled her through 6th grade then put her in a University Model school. They go M-W-F and Tues. -Thurs. classes. It’s run just like a university. I expect these schools to explode as parents are tired of the public school system.

I've finished homeschooling all my kids last year. All their lives they were homeschooled. They are doing exceptional! People use to make fun of it but now everyone doing it. Homeschoolers are number one in National spelling bees and sought out by Harvard and Yale.

I would’ve loved to have been homeschooled in high school . It was awful, the way that not only the students , but the teachers and staff treated black students at my school. I will 100% consider doing this for my kids when i have them .

I can remember countless times when students would boldly and proudly call me the n word, tell me to go back to Africa, get back on the boat, yell “white power” in the hallways, etc. i can remember one specific time i had a classmate call me the n word to my face and when i told my teacher, she said, “he’s probably just joking, go sit down”
I remember another time during spirit week (this was right after trump was elected i believe, so the climate at school became much worse) we had an “American pride day” and the black students wore black shirts instead and most of us got sent to the principal for that .
Another time one of my best friends was walking to class from lunch and a girl called her the n word and the girls boyfriend spit in my friends face .. my friend of course defended herself and was then in trouble. I COULD GO ON

My child ain't black but I consider homeschooling for more or less the same reasons plus the fear of school shootings. I'm sure those kids will experience a life full of bright colors and enjoy more time with family.
As a current African American, I've been homeschooled for the past three years and its been amazing. I became depressed and suicidal in public school, because the teachers always favored the white student, where I'm from, and us black students were often left out and left behind. I didn't have any true friends who turned on me, and I couldn't take it anymore. Lucky, my parents found out before I decided to run away, and took me out. Covid-19 did play a bit of of factor in being depressed, but it was nothing compared to public school. Now I graduate this year.

Homeschooled children, over all, do better in college because they know how to do their work. They don’t need a teacher hovering over their shoulder. They are intrinsically motivated. Colleges see homeschoolers as a plus. So do employers, once they have been exposed to the homeschool community.
They don’t have to wait on the class … they can progress faster in areas they are gifted/ interested in.
Socially, they learn how to interact with people of ALL ages, races, and abilities. They are well rounded.
How does the social aspect of home schooling work? My impression is that they have their home school group (who are typically comprised of people of the same race, economic background, religion, ability, language, etc). Do home school groups do exchange programs with other groups and kids who do traditional schooling?
I will just say this there are things like homeschooling groups which allow you to interact with other kids and develop close bonds. As someone who grew up in public schools when I moved I didn’t know how to make friends and my parents forbade homeschooling. Trying to force me into making friends at a public school of people I did not know. I never had close friends since the move, given most my friends were in my neighborhood park (my new neighborhood did not have a meeting place for kids /was geared towards elderly), which goes to show you can have interactions/groups without the school system. I do not believe you even develop decent relationships in public or private schools (especially in redlined/gerrymandered areas). In the end take what I say as anecdote if you will but as someone who is almost grown and can safely say I have no friends, please consider two things homeschooling would have made me less anxious (as it would have been a comforting environment as I went to a school with its own allegations of racism) and that school isn’t the one stop for friends (again especially if you are the only minority at your school).
I wish I was homeschooled, it would have been way better than dealing with all the drama that those ignorant kids put on me. Making fun of my curls, my nose, refusing to play with me. The teachers even told kids to stay away from me.... That I was crazy just because I sung to myself at lunch cus no one would play with me.
They weren’t just ignorant, they were wrong and evil. I’m sorry you had to go through that, but I’m glad you seem to have overcome and hopefully you are doing well today and don’t carry any serious lifetime trauma. God bless!

My daughter is home schooled and saw a drastic change in her attitude and her confidence. She hasn't been back to a regular school since Covid
I have been homeschooling my daughter for 2 years. It's a lot of work but I really feel it's worth it.
it is les strenuous when you've got 2-3 kids actually because tasks are shared among them and they check if the others understood assignments .
This is something every black parent should consider. A lot of the black communities also need to combine resources to fun schools. It is not about racism is about teaching your children about Pride in self and knowledge of self the reason why a lot of these young people do these ignorant things is because they have no idea about their history.
Who are you to tell these parents what they are experiencing. That people problem feel they can tell Blacks how to and not to think.
I’ve been homeschooling for 3 yrs now and it’s not very expensive. I always print out a basic outline for the grade level. I added African American Studies to my curriculum from the start. This year we’re going to finish up the regions of the United States. I use play dough to make the states, games to learn the capitals, and interactive notebooks with pictures from our activities so she can remember everything. I spend money on extra curricular activities and educational outings. My daughter has ADHD and requires hands on learning. I test her monthly instead of weekly. It took a lot of unschooling to erase the emotional damage the first year! She’s VERY confident in who she is and will be. Next year we are going to start a small business for her, teach her about saving on a larger scale, using credit cards in a responsible manner, and investing her earnings. If children are interested in a subject, that’s the time to feed that hunger! She loves science, money, and animals. We go to a lot of museums, volunteer at animal shelters, do experiments every week, and she helps her grandmother around her home. I try to teach her not to expect money for every deed! Helping granny mow the yard, plant her garden, clean her house, or make soap and candles shouldn’t require payment. You get blessings as payment.
This is a great direction to go in. Teachers in schools are definitely racially biased. My daughter is Black/biracial and in preschool and I already see it. Teachers in school can be great but a select few get away with bullying all the time and feel that they're untouchable for it. What makes it worse is that it seems like those teachers who bully students are often the popular teachers who pick one or two children and emotionally wear them down. Educators aren't always these selfless angels people make them out to be.

My daughter was bullied by several teachers. It's terrible. It destroyed all of her confidence. I pulled her very quickly.

The worst part is that those same teachers act like they "can't get away with saying anything to their students", but it's actually the opposite. In reality, it's actually very hard to fire a public school teacher, unless they sexually or physically assault one of their students.
I absolutely love this, and am a part of this movement. I was a public school teacher in impoverished areas. Homeschooler for life. Homeschooling is not that expensive. That was a major negative and untrue statement there. It is that expensive if you choose that route.
There are tons of good learning materials at the Dollar Store for early learning.😃 You can also make duplicate worksheets, from different workbooks . 😃
Well said! We are in our second year currently and I’ve purposely cut curriculum costs this year because we didn’t need it! Soooooooo many free resources, printables, worksheets, online, library, etc. I managed to build a system for 3 different grade levels using things we’ve already purchased, my local library and online materials! Homeschooling is not easy however, if you’re willing to make the effort for the overall educational welfare of your children then you will succeed!

There are several free resources out there. And you can always buy used curriculum or swap. It can be done as expensive or inexpensive as you make it. I do suggest having a good quality printer though.
I’m a teacher that has taught since 1989. I adopted my daughter in 2007. She went to regular school and struggled very much academically and socially. She also has depression and social anxiety. Many mornings it was a struggle to get her out of the door. There had been several racial incidences at her school when she was there. She was very upset about it, understandable. I at one time swore I couldn’t possibly homeschool my own child. After the pandemic hit and we were online I noticed she was more at ease but she didn’t want to show her face in the classroom forums with the other students. After a long discussion we decided to homeschool the following year. She had to learn that homeschool mom was different from the normal everyday mom. She really improved her study habits and had a successful year. The best grades she ever made …that I made sure she truly earned. Traditional school is not always the best option for all children. I wish all the best to the students and their parents this new school year.
This type of program needs to be supported in the community of color, we need this to be an available and encouraged option for the larger communities to become better. The system is broken and unreliable. God bless all parents who are doing their best!
I love this, "The Melanin Village"......I wanted to homeschool my own daughter when she was small but the public school district made it very difficult for me back in the early 2000's. More Black people would teach their own children if they had the tools. Also, HBCU's prove that Black students do well in their own culture based educational environment.

I started homeschooling during covid. I've kept homeschooling for some of the same reasons as these Moms! What an amazing community they are building! I love everything about this.

I just hate how some states have super strict guidelines. In MO we have to log 1,000 hours a school year.
600 core and 400 extracurricular.
I’ve heard from other parents that they have to constantly turn work into and they get visits from the state.
There’s a homeschool association that fights against the states tht want to make it impossible for parents.
"Our children are brilliant, you just don't try to get to know them." That's exactly the same problem I was having! It was affecting the whole family. I started home schooling during the pandemic, too, because we lost disability services and our son couldn't keep up with remote learning in mainstream classes. I think it's great to see other parents doing this!

Been homeschooling for years and you can start homeschooling from birth. Sign language and reading letters is a fun skill to teach them before age 1. Love your joy for teaching!

As a public school teacher, I hope more than anything that I can have the resources to homeschool my children when I start my own family. It is impossible to meet all of my students’ needs when some are reading at an 8th grade level and others are still learning how to properly hold a pencil. When you have a large amount of students struggling you do anything to help them get caught up and the kids who are JUST below grade level or are middle of the road don’t get pushed forward. You can be the best teacher in the world, but there are only so many minutes and so many different needs to meet.
The public school system hasn’t been around for that long. Before that it was the parents teaching at home. It definitely benefits our children and families as a whole.
I have been homeschooling for 12 years and I would do it all again! My children are very successful! Success doesn’t always mean college! 2 of mine went to college and 3 have chosen a different path! My oldest is 27 and my youngest is 15. I’m sad it’s coming to a close in the next few years.
Memories are all we’ll ever have in the end. Be proud of your accomplishments and get ready for the next chapter. Congrats!
Homeschooling does require some element of financial freedom... a high income husband helps, or some other 'sponsor'... or having wealth, like a paid off house.

We're seeing this more.
It's basically called the "FIRE" movement.
High wealth people are living on a low income.
I know several families who live well on $5k yearly per person.

My oldest began graduate school this week and my youngest is in her last semester of Community college and will move on to a 4 year.

Parents taught their children to sit, stand, feed themselves, walk, talk, dress themselves, use the toilet, bath themselves. They are fully qualified to teach them to read, write and love learning. I homeschooled mine and I am now a tutor to senior school student who has always been homeschooled. He is an A student. As a remedial teacher, I am so pleased to see this happening. They have the best opportunity. There are resources like joining your local library that can help reduce costs for text/reading books. It need not be costly if you check out all the options of available coursework.
Really? Because I've had students whose parents never did such a thing. The school fed them, clothed them, and taught them.
As a black family we homeschool the same reason any other race homeschools. It’s not about race. Any child will benefit from being homeschooled.

I love this and support these moms, but as a public school teacher in an I ner city it breaks my hearts that this happened. I can promise you that I do not treat my students the way many of these families experienced. I love my students. They're my favorite people in the world!

Yes!! Been homeschooling all 4 of my babies since 2016! It is the best decision I have ever made.
Not just black parents, every parent in the US should. It’s really sad how the US public education system deteriorated to the state it is. Homeschooling, theres individual attention given more one to one which many kids truly need. Public school system, no way, when you have 40+ kids in a class with one teacher. Many kids learning suffer tremendously.
I think every parent should be active in their child’s learning, but it’s not possible for every parent to homeschool unfortunately. Especially single parent households, and families that need more than one source of income because of cost of living constantly going up.
Parents should have a louder more impactful voice when it comes to the education system in their district. I feel extremely fortunate to be in a position that allows me to homeschool and work from home, but it’s hard.

It’s a choice that takes A LOT of sacrifice especially for us black parents. It took me 6 years to make it even an option and now I’ve been homeschooling for 3 years.

I started unschooling in 1982! So glad we did. My kids are now doing very well.

I have homeschooled my 3 kids for most of their school careers. I have two graduated and one with enough credits to graduate this year if he decides to. Anyhow it has been awesome for our family. There are so many perks to homeschooling! Also it should not cost 2,000 to start homeschooling. It takes many hours researching and yes borrowing/lending/selling with them can dramatically reduce your out of pocket. Lastly, I don’t care what color you are there will be benefits galore to homeschooling.
I am proud of all of those babies.... and parents who decided to protect their children and homeschool. Those who choose to homeschool, please know that you DON'T have to register your children in the district, not even a "soft registration"...ijs. Look up you and your child's rights. Pay attention to that bc some schools may push that in order to still get funding for your child and still do nothing to assist your family during the homeschooling process. Depending on where you live you may have to submit your reports and such, but it's all worth it to me to protect our babies. Especially from the prison to school pipeline and such. Just be mindful to maintain your paperwork and such. Also, be mindful of the new tactics the ed sys is coming up with, homeschooling or "home instruction" by sending "their" teachers to homeschool your children at YOUR home...yeah crazy...smh. Stay safe everyone and happy homeschooling.💫

I homeschooled for the last 4 years of my daughters schooling after a teacher made several racist and biased statements to her class in her 1st semester of 9th grade and he wasn’t punished for it. Homeschooling was the BEST decision that I could have made. I know that it may not be possible for everyone but if you are able then I would. Unfortunately the American school system is not only trash but a lot of these kids are bringing their trauma to school with them from their toxic home environments. I decided that I wasn’t going for any of that.
Don't be afraid!! I have been homeschooling my kids since jump -- and last year my-then 4th grader and 2nd grader were at 99 and 98 percentile of their State tests. You can do this, and have your children confident in their education and not feeling any shame for what they know.
I’m a mom of 4, one girl, three boys, and I don’t ever plan on putting my children in public schooling. I like that she used the term “guinea pigs” that’s exactly how I feel about it. My sister is an elementary school teacher and the stuff she tells me…🙏🏿. Plus, don’t get me started on the school shootings. It’s just a mess. This is my oldest first year and so far, so good👍🏿. I homeschooled my daughter for 9th-12th grade she graduated this year from high school I am totally happy that I did it and so was she

I was homeschool. Did not feel deprived. Way better than going to public school! And you do have social skills. I spent a lot of time at the Library. I have my MA and other post-grad certificates!
Having worked as an educator on and off in the NYC school system for over 20 years, if I had children I would totally home school. No question!

I feel so blessed to have found this. I’ve been researching homeschooling since this school year began. My son 6 years old( first grade) has already faced so much bullying. Teachers don’t jump in until my child has to defend himself and is then punished. Unfortunately he is in a predominantly white public school and he’s one of 2 black babies in his class! They do the bare minimum when it comes to teaching and I find myself doing the most of it at home anyway. In The two years he’s been there they’ve never went on any field trips, idk if that’s not a thing anymore but it definitely was when my husband and I were kids, they’re so important. Im so happy there’s a community to help get ppl like me started on this journey with my own child. This will be his last year in traditional school.

I just started home schooling my 10 year old 6 months ago and she's learning more without the pressure of someone rushing her. Plus I work from home so I'm able to have a flexible schedule. Don't get me wrong you do have to have a certain amount of discipline while juggling this but it's the best decision I have made.

I started out homeschooling and got a lot of judgment from non-homeschooling people. They claimed homeschooling children are not “socialized.” In addition to educational work from a curriculum I created, my son and I went to playgroups five days a week. The groups were ethnically diverse but I knew only a couple Black homeschooling families. By the time I met more who had created a collective in our area, my son was in public school. Fortunately, he’s thriving. If I were to have another child I would absolutely homeschool.
What I find very interesting is I have met public school teachers along the way who homeschool their children because they do not believe the school system works.
Homeschooling, especially for Black families is a brilliant and beautiful choice that is highly beneficial for children and families.

I homeschooled my daughter due to the pandemic for two years. Full time nurse working nights homeschool during the day. It was a mix of emotions but definitely worth it. My daughter wanted to return to school for middle school so we are giving it a shot this year. If it doesn’t go well we will return and finish out through her senior year

I am planning to do the same, don't know where to start, but I would like to learn how to home school. I live in California and the public school system has already fallen apart.
Every state has homeschooling groups. Often they will host conferences (like SEA Homeschoolers or Greater Homeschool Conventions). I would try to find the big CA group and start there. Often on their website they will have specific info for those just starting out.
I too live in California. These is my second year Homeschooling my son. The way I did it was thru Charter school. I get a drop twice a year (school year) 1300. With these budgets I'm able to buy all the curriculums Math, English-language, Science, Social Studies and whatever else you wish too add. You buy all the other misulanus things to need 🖍 🔎📋🖌✂📇🔬📚📒🎾🏀⚽🗓.. The only thing is, you do need to send in 1 copy of Language Arts and Math or sometimes Science or Social Studies once a month. Proof that legally your child is getting an education. Other than that I have enjoyed Homeschooling my Son 🙏 . another way is to file a Homeschool Affidate form we're your basically letting the Government know that your Homeschooling independently from any other school system. You cover all the expensise. Fun fact: when you do these you get to name your school ❤ because your Home becomes your school ✌ Best of luck!

As a black person myself, I’ve always wished i was homeschooled. And i thought if you can afford it and could do it, i would do homeschooling.
I was a teacher in the system and they had challenges with my methods of planting school gardens having classes outside.tell me how do kids make experiential connections but thru reality? being engaged on a holistic level.. Every child did so well in external exams because I took the time to learn fm them help them realise their potential.Thanks for this validation I was on the right track ahead of my time.

I’m a black mom who has been homeschooling my three boys 11, 9, and 6 from the beginning, and we love it. Tips: find out if your public school system will lend books of that’s what you want; use the library system for their programs and of course books; I have found through the years that putting relationships first, school second to be the best for us. Have fun with it if you try! My boys are always learning and teaching us and each other.
I support these families and love having options for kids that are more personal. I would like to find something different for my autistic teen. School is the source of so much depression and anxiety. The system hasn't updated in a 100 years and everyone suffers, including teachers.
Thumbs up my fellow African parents. I am Nigerian writing from Nigeria and my children were homeschooled. The benefits are immense if you have the right materials. Your children are more stable, have confidence and academically stronger.

I would really like to see an follow-up on the actual start up cost of homeschooling. The statement that it cost a lot for curriculum may discourage some from even looking into the possibility. It truly can be done for free to almost nothing and still exceed public education. Have a round table talk with homeschool families from many backgrounds. I have met families that have started homeschooling for so many different reasons, but I would really hate for someone to think they shouldn't even bother to look into it because of cost.
