Yep, completely agree! Scorched is a glorious, diverse offering that feels like a retrospective that captures all phases of Overkill's amazing career. Everyone in the band, from D.D. to Jason Bitter, is on fire here but Dave Linsk's and Blitz's performances are particularly noteworthy. There aren't many albums where every song goes on my "Best of" playlist for the band in question but this was definitely one.

Great review. Along with Megadeth, Flotsam, Metal Church and Testament, I think Overkill have released some of the best american thrashmetal material in modern time!
Fantastic in depth review on the new Overkill Darcy! I'm glad you did take your time and not do it in 10 seconds. I used to do reviews on my channel but I don't pick up and listen to new albums like I did back then, plus those videos didn't do well. This album I'll be listening to when I have more free time, really getting into this band now 🤘🏻🤘🏻

Always enjoy your reviews, I also wait at least a week and after at least a dozen or more plays before judging an album. For me, this is easily in my top 5 of the year so far, Overkill continues their winning streak which begun with Ironbound.

Overkill are one of thrashs finest. I have listened to the album a few times now and it is awesome. They have done a few different things on this album to change it up, but have not strayed from that Overkill sound. Great review Darcy!

Great review Darcy! I finally got my vinyl copy and wanted to spin it a few times and form my own opinions before watching your review. I am really enjoying it so far! Such a good album! I have similar favorites as you. The first time I heard Fever I thought it could have been a Black Sabbath tune and to hear you say Billy sounded like Ozzy on that track was very cool!
Great review. Just received my copy. The Local record shop set it aside for me but finally getting a copy. This is an awesome album. So far "Fever" is my favorite but the while album is solid.

I was wondering what happened to Jason he was an awesome! Drummer way back when he was with the great SHADOWS FALL. He is really a great drummer. Sounds like a really great album you reviewed. That order was from Nuclear Blast Europe , usually very fast shipping & good with new releases. I have the cd & cassette coming from Nuclear Blast USA, makes no sense that they’re slower lol. Fantastic review, Darcy! Your review was the first one I was interested to see, because like you, Overkill is my favorite thrash band of all time! The variety is great, the production is crisp, the guitar work is amazing, and Blitz sounds as fierce as ever. Love this band so much, and they’re on a roll over the last 13 years! Love every album in its own way. Long live The Green and Black!!

Nice review there Darcy. Only given it one listen so far and it sounded great. Will pick it up when I get a chance. They remind me of a thrash version of Motorhead as in you know what you're going to get, but each album is slightly different to the last one.
Okay tbh I'm very late to the Overkill party but this album is just fucking great.....maybe the extra time was beneficial to them honing this effort. For me it's better than 72 seasons which I haven't got all the way through because it's too long and lacks dynamics for me whereas this is got a bit of everything and gets better with each listen......title track is killer....the other singles are solid.....twist of the wick and fever are standouts for me.......bobby's vocals are fantastic which is actually the only thing i like from the new metallica....james vocals so there you go.....thanks again Darcy 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Unfortunately the double vinyl over here is just over $70 so I’ll be picking it up on cd I think. At the moment I would prefer to spend that sort of money on OG stuff. The colour of yr vinyl copy looks very cool with the light behind it🤘

Scorched is a really good album and I really really like it but I will have to say it's a very familiar album. I know you say they don't put out the same album over and over but they do play it safe and IMO have been since Bloodletting, sure there's little things here and there but overall there's a formula they stick too and it works for them. I've been an Overkill fanatic since Hello from the gutter and I love everything they've ever done (some more than others) but sometimes I wish they'd do something along the lines of The years of Decay album again cause it had a wide variety on it. Anyway still love me some Overkill and the new album rocks, just saying.
Got the cd on release day been jamming in my truck since really enjoying it🤘🤘

You described this record perfectly when you said variety. In alot of ways it’s a culmination of everything they’ve sounded like. There’s all out thrash, there’s doomy groove stuff from I hear black era and even hear some stuff I never really have, especially vocally. Love it, and again, might be there best sounding record to date.. thanks for sharing brother. Stay green and black.👊🏻👊🏻

This album is awesome! I played it over and over. Have it on vinyl, very cool. I can't say enough about it. To me album of the year, but overkill always have great albums.
It also annoying that everyone loves that crap metallica and no love for this one.

Great review Darcy! As I said month ago, if they do another thrash record I am out. But this one is a great heavy metal album with everything you need.Very good drums with natural sounding cymbals, fantastic vocals and melodies, perfect constructed solos. Highpoints? Nearly all songs. Maybe Wicked place, Fever and Going home to name a few. Love the album.
I'm still waiting for mine to arrive, mine should be here by friday. I have all versions coming. Enforcer is with it but isn't released until friday.

I knew you’d love this one. Holy shit what an awesome album!! I was excited when the singles came out. First, the Surgeon, all I could think when I heard that song is a song they wrote over 20 years ago. From Killing kind, the song Godlike starts almost the same as The Surgeon! Next the release Wicked Place and I’m like Hmmm sounds like Black daze! This album brings me back to the Overkill I fell in love with back in High school! This is just a fun Thrashy album that test some limits and I love it.Just a PS . Metallica has got to be pissed lol. Let’s go Overkill

Overkill rules and Scorched is fantastic. Blitz gives one of his best performances on this album. The 2000's was the only weak era for the band. However, Killbox is pretty good too

As much as I enjoyed your Maiden ranking, THIS was the one I was waiting for.
Well it's too early for me to decide if I like it better than Wings Of War, to my ears, it definitely surpasses Grinding Wheel and White Devil Armory right away.
Just curious if you would ever consider a Top 10 ranking of older thrash bands modern records? (ie. 2010 and after) Definitely plenty to choose from.

I think with a few more listens you’ll say yup this is even better than The Wings Of War, even though that is a killer album too! Can’t beat a lead off track like Last Man Standing, so damn awesome! another great review agree DD's bass sound is awesome, when i interviewed Bobby he did say they held the album back due to covid what's the point of releasing it and not go out on the road.

It's a rare and pleasant surprise indeed when classic metal bands we grew up with actually still put out great albums. There are a few, but it's rare. The new Metallica is sh*t. It's not a winner with too many, except the die-hards who love everything they do regardless. I'm not one of them. Overkill's new album is a breath of fresh air. Thanks, Darcy. Excellent review as always. Oh, and don't forget to get the RSD edition of Dio's 1983 live performance tomorrow.

You convinced me. I own some Overkill but have never bought a "new" release. I have now. I'm not going to lie though; seeing the endless barrage of rave reviews has also helped to bolster your point. I've always had a love/not like relationship with Blitz's voice. But I think the age that time has put on his voiced has warmed it to me. The title track is killer. So, if I end up not liking it you will owe me $15.
Now, with that being said, if you decide to review the new 'Tallicats I still won't be getting it. I think they've released four singles and every one has been a snoozer.
If for some strange reason you do not like the new Overkill I’ll give you $16 for it lol. Don’t worry I won’t be reviewing the new Metallica, I think maybe I’ll review the new Anthem album next, maybe the new Cattle Decapitation or Winger in the future, that’s quite the mix hey 😂 Thanks as always my friend

What do you think of 72 Seasons? I'd say that it was awesome as a modern Metallica record. Is it as good as the 80s? Fuck no. Is it bad? Also fuck no!
I'd say that I'd rank it as highly as Scorched which is why I brought it up! I love both records after hearing them multiple times each!
I don’t like the new Metallica but I’m not going rip it a new asshole either, I find the album very samey & phoned in! Maybe I’ll give it more time in the future but for now there is better music from bands that get next to zero credit! I am certainly not denying Metallica’s place in Metal history, but I’ve said it before I believe they were in the right place at the right time! I will not tell you what to enjoy my friend, just glad your enjoying the heavier side of life 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
I think Dave's solos were much better on Ironbound.
Hey Darcy! This album is a headbanging classic if you ask me. I've been spinning this nonstop since it came out. Next time you listen to Won't Be Coming Back let me know If you don't hear Overkill giving some love in the opening riffs to Dio's Holy Diver. Maybe it's just me but I hear some Holy Diver in there! Although I agree with you with mentioning Metal Church, they deserve more love, I’d say they are more US Power Metal than thrash. I’d insert Death Angel in their place! Testament is my second favourite thrash band behind Overkill. Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers Roger

Wrecking Crew!!! Album is awesome. It’s my favorite since Ironbound but I like it more than ironbound. IMO best since WFO. DD Verni is top 3 bass players in metal. Best live band too. But yeah really liking Scorched
