Thank you sooooooo much!! My mommy was Belizean and passed 5 months ago. I only made this once and forgot. I no longer have her to call when I forget a particular Belizean recipe. You broke everything down in detail...again thank you!!!!!!

Its so hot here, the city called and asked us to shut down our machines for few hours today to help them conserve and not have power outage. I admire anyone that can do a fast, because I can't last more than a few hours and I gain weight while I fast. Keep up the good work. :)

The split pea soup came out amazing. I made with pig tails that was not in brine/salt. So I could control the salt content. I served on a bed of parbroiled rice. First time I ever made dumplings and I was so proud of myself. Thanks again :) :) I cannot wait to get my hands on one of those cookbooks.

Although Belize is in Central America, our culture is Caribbean. Probably because the Caribbean Sea bounds us on the east.

You just inspired me to make a new recipe idea...and many parts of the idea is from your title , the pantry is bare and I needed to use the bits and pieces we have around. I just watched this recipe on split pea soup ( I love split pea soup , but usually make it with a ham hock or some type of ham or Cajun sausage . I usually add potatoes, carrots and celery too) but this time I only have dried lentils ( so kinda the same idea-ish ) . I also put it in the crock pot . We don't have any meat in the kitchen , so it will be a veg soup . I will add dumplings to it before serving and I hope it turns out good! Sounds odd - but being chefs is a lot about imagination and combinations ;-) ... and thanks for the inspiration! See how that all rhymed even ... Thanks to you and your videos 😀 xoxo Lylaboo1

Oh it's worse than that...it's not pig's feet it's the tail. lol It's really not gross, I just don't like that it has very little meat on the bone. Mostly skin and bone and salt. It's cured in a salty brine. My dad one of the few distributors for this delicacy. The pea soups are awesome though. My fav...Was that you who friended me on Facebook. If it is you look so physically fit. It really motivated me.

The yellow split peas I had must have have been 900 years old because I cooked them for four hours, and it still has a bit of pea particles in it. lol.. This was my second time trying to make them. They actually turned out better this time I think. The first time I put the pig tails, but I had virtually a whole ham left from New Year's so I just used that instead. My friend said he liked them both times though. :) I was going to try to make the dumplings, but I made oxtails again too, so I was too tried for that. lol

Interesting soups. I've never had split peas before and both kinds if soups have a diff contrast of flavours. Your soup looks yummy, don't know about pigs feet though to be honest :/

Not nice to put the pot spoon in your mouth to taste. I agree. Icky to see people doing it.
