Part of the reason music took a nosedive in 2019 imo was because that was the year Tiktok was around. Songs got popular back then because they had good word of mouth, but after Tiktok appeared, trends and memes became reason songs got popular. If a song or artist blows up on Tiktok, you're likely to see them become popular on radio or on music streaming platforms (at least here in the US, not sure about other countries). It's not that music has necessarily become worse, there's always good music being released to this day, it's just that people's standard and perspective for music has changed drastically. People stick with genres like rap and rock, and other classics because they much rather play it safe than spend so much time finding something that's worthwhile and new. It can be a little draining listening to so much filler, but it's worth it when you find a new song, album, or artist that hits different.

I think the dono at end is wrong, i would listen to alot of this music when i was younger, more recently (like past 3-4 years) my music taste has completely changed to mostly hip-hop. I never listened to hiphop prior minus the rare pop songs with a rapper on it or the song that went main stream like gangsters paradise or gold digger. I think ive just realised how much more creative the instruments and lyrics are on these songs and changed completely. I probably also got bored of listening to mostly 2010s pop for most of my teenage life
