Like in the movie with Roger Moore "The Man who haunted himself" in 1970. The same colour, the same car, even very similar shadows when the car entering the greenery of wood. By my opinion on of the most successful and beautiful cars not only in Britain

Modern cars are nothing more than government designed cars. The auto industry has not say in the matter and many of them have lost their independence decades ago and are not innovative anymore.

I have absolutely no recollection of feeling the the steering was too light in my 3 litre coupe. But I had come from a FX4 black cab and went to another Rover, series one Landy. My p5 was LOVELY and I’d jump at the chance to drive another. A very stately car. Good for the ton but impressive at 20 mph. I loved the horn ring particularly!

Best Rover built, best looking, better engine than us English could ever produce, thats because its a Buick engine (GM ) from America, stood the test of time and wouldnt break down or leak like our British Leyland Shit we produced, the Buick engine made this car sell.

With regard to the light steering you could probably reduce the pressure on the pressure relief valve which would slightly heavier steering and less pressure on the steering box and seals. Great car.

I ran one of these fabulous cars (a 1973 P5B Coupé) as my daily mode of transport for over 8 years in the 1980s/90s - As regards the steering - Yes it was very light - But that required a totally different technique on the part of the driver - Fingertip steering - Literally !!! - It really isn't necessary to grip the wheel as one would in a contemporary car with a smaller wheel (and as I see you are doing) - The steering wheel is HUGE and all it requires is light touches from your fingertips to guide it - A great car for the point & squirt technique which was lots of fun, especially accompanied by the "music" from that great V8 - Very thirsty of course - But it had lots of admirers everywhere I drove it - Lovely memories...

I had one for a couple of years in the late 70s (black with burgundy interior). This brought back some memories. It was a decent relaxed touring car and would sit on 80-90mph all day (albeit sucking down quite a lot of fuel). I hear you on the steering though. If you did try to hustle it, the steering actually couldn’t keep up and, in quick transitions, you’d actually get a delay. Anyhow, the car was not meant to be driven like that...and it was wise not to try. And yeah...my steering leaked slightly, even after a rebuild. Only car I’ve owned where you checked the oil and power steering fluid at the same time. But...it was a lovely old thing and they doesn’t build them like that anymore.

G'day from Oz once again. Most enjoyable vid as usual. Your comment on the weight of the power steering in a P5B took me back to my UK days in the 1990s with my mate in his P5B Coupe and saloons. We regularly drove from London to Derby to have them serviced etc due to a particular garage owners long standing and amazing understanding of the P5/P5B cars - he's still in business. Nevertheless I found the steering incredibly light on the P5B on these trips, but quite different on the 3-Litre P5, the system the P5 was designed for. Rover fundamentally cut costs with the P5B, simply dropping in the alloy V8 into the 3-Litre body shell. The weight of the 3-Litre engine versus the alloy V8 affected the power steering feel, so it's understandable why the issue is there. As to your comment about the power steering system in the P6B, you mention 'rack-and-pinion' just to be sure this steering rack was never used in the P6/P6B and as to the power steering itself it was offered for both auto and manual V8s as an option. Considering the number of both types I've driven I still prefer non-power assisted P6Bs. All the best.

Lovely car, I had a 67 coupe for 16 years until it was stolen and never found, As to the steering box leaking half the rebuild ones leak straight away, Having had classic Range rovers now for almost 30 years, I wonder if anyone has tried to convert a 3 or 4 bolt RRC box to fit a P5B they are very similar in size and shape but have a good feel and don't leak until quite high mileage. I do so miss my P5B.( but still love my RRC ).

Only ever rode in a P5b the once, -- years ago as a passenger at a steady illegal 100 mph (160 kph) on the motorway, sat serenely in a lovely large very comfy leather seat.
Wish cars were made like this today. Most modern cars are all for 'handling' accompanied by an uncomfortable jittery ride and over-firm suspension. Shame really. There must be a market out there for a comfortable car. I reckon manufacturers have missed a trick.

It had no feel whatsoever, almost as if the steering wheel wasn't connected to the wheels. I really if I'd kept it modified the steering to a more modern variable system.

The suspension of modern cars are not designed for comfort. They are designed to meet international and government regulations.
Governments have put so much emphasis on engines and emissions that cars have become very expensive and have not truly had innovation in the last 40 years.
Manufacturers spend so much resources trying to chase government regulations that they do not have anything remaining for innovation.
