'Masterpiece' might be something of an exaggeration, no? It's all blood and gore, and rather limited narrative. At least Gibson got to live out his violent fantasies and bloodlust. My favourite scene in the movie is actually towards end when they run into the Europeans, just having discovered America, now rowing ashore from their great ship. How alien that picture seems to the natives, and just the historical significance of it, and the clash of cultures. A powerful moment.

Fun (or sad) fact: This scene was inspired by a real event, when an Apache leader who escaped the US Army for five years and was the last renegade indian band to surrender in the US Indian Genocide. He was being pursued and became trapped. His only escape was to jump off a cliff into a river below. On horseback, he took this route. As he went off the edge of the cliff, he yelled his name, "Geronimo." Surprisingly he and his horse survived the fall, but was later captured and died in prison. The US army insists that it was by "natural causes".

And yes, that's why people still yell "Geronimo" before jumping off something
I repelled off that cliff in 1984. medicine Bluffs, Fort Sill. O K
he toured with Buffalo Bill's circus for a time.
Your story is just that, a story. The famous Geronimo died in late age, drunk, in a puddle of rain water.
@@charles2521 Airborne troops training in WWII were instructed to shout out their names as they jumped. One trooper, hyped up by a movie he'd just seen, yelled instead "Geronimo"! It spread to become the common yell among the airborne.
One of the best movies ever. You watch every minute. Genius move to NOT do this in English and use subtitles. Made it more Real
Yeah, it helps you to inmerse in the film, a lot.

imagine your entire life was building up to this one moment 3:35
😂
Oof
A great film, I totally forget these guys are acting, they seem so evil.
My name is Jeff Just great acting, we have all decended from savages.
My name is Jeff Maya's weren't Mexicans back then though so not Mexicans
Selena Gomez Acapella Aztecs were, and Guatemala was part of Mexico so yeah... mexicans.
My name is Jeff As I said, Mexico didn't exist. It's a country that exists because of the colonization of Natives and was created by non natives so no not Mexicans, they predate the country. The Aztecs are just one of hundreds of different tribes and they didn't rule the Mayas.
Selena Gomez Acapella just like the USA
you really have a brilliant mind Sir Gibson
this movie is outcome of pure common sense and creativity
Yep. Whatever you may think about his politics, beliefs, etc., - no doubt - the guy can make a really good movie.
it's a good movie, but i hate how racist it is. depicting the natives as a violent, inferior culture, while the europeans are calm and a god send to planet earth
diornotwar123 Where did you see that? It is true that the Mayans were depicted as a brutal, savage, conquering tribe. But the tribe of Jaguar Paw is depicted as an independent, noble, caring people. Jaguar Paw fought against the killers and slavers. The contrast is very evident throughout. It's the whole point of the movie!
And as for the Europeans arriving at the end, if you missed the tone of that scene, ..I can only guess you missed that point as well.
Pure projection.
Какими бы жестокими эти воины не выглядели но уважения заслуживают однозначно
