I always imagine some ancient times blacksmith being suddenly dropped into a modern metal shop and being shown some modern techniques of making even the simplest of knives. The pure joy and excitement on their face would probably make my eyes leak and I'm not even a metal worker.

@@scottishsenpai5089 has nothing to do with making it "thicker". The two types of steel interlayered have different hardness and flexability. The less hard, more flexable steel makes up the spine and body of the knife, while the harder , less flexable steel becomes the knife edge . I know your just trying to help, but these practices will be lost if we dont educate properly!

Beyond the cool wavy line is there an advantage to sandwiching that piece of steel between the other?
It's sort of acts like layering and makes the steel thicker but it can be done wrong easily
