@@SergioPena20 Ah yes, cuz everyone has an angle grinder laying around. Hell, I don't even have a file like that at my house. It would be cheaper for me to just buy a knife.
Как думаете этим ножом пользоваться можно? Шершавость по бокам мешать не будет? Да и толщина такая... Я таких никогда не видел. В хозяйстве пригодится или только смотреть?
Nice, I got the file. Now I just need to have a grinder, the furnace, a jigsaw, a drill press, free time, a belt sander a plastic tub with the dye you used, another file to file the file (borrowed this), kevlar? the jig you used to safely sand the work piece, and any measurable craftsmanship skills and ill be good to go.
For what it's worth you could probably do all of that with about 50 bucks if you have it. The furnace part is easiest. Dig a hole in the ground, find a good bit of wood, a steel pipe and a bicycle pump for a bellows. He annealed the file first to take the temper and hardness out of it, then went to work. You can find a cheap angle grinder on Craigslist and a vice too. Files are cheap at Harbor Freight or Northern tool and equipment or wal mart or a hardware store. Or ask around, someone might have all that stuff and give it to you. Never hurts to ask. Yard and garage sales. A hand drill will work fine for most of what he used a Dremel tool for and it will drill the holes for your pins. Handle material can be almost anything. A cheap 1" dowel from lowes or home depot will be fine. Or an old kitchen chair or something like that and take the wood from it. He threaded the handle for Allen screws but you wouldn't have to. A coat hanger and some epoxy makes some pretty strong pins. To heat treat the knife, use your hole in the ground again and heat it till a magnet won't stick. Then quench in used motor oil or cooking oil. Be careful because you'll usually get a flame from those. Then to temper it, put it in your oven at 400° for about 2 hours. It can be done without a lot of cost.
@@Sickofsociety1 awesome, I have half the stuff already, and you just saved me tonnes of time trying to figure out the rest. - Haha... I really like how you used an old door hinge to make a protractor gage to construct the blade edge angle... A very creative and innovated idea.
Let's face it we all watched it and we all enjoyed it! 😂 😂 The quarantine 2020
Most of these videos are weird to me. Half assed knives or axes etc. This knife looked ominous! Seriously really liked it!!
👍👍👍
I’m so glad to have found your videos, you’re my number one inspiration! Fantastic craftsmanship and always beautiful work. Thank you for sharing.
I found several very old rusty files at a deserted farm out bush in qld Australia.
I've had them for years, now I'll cinvert them.
Thanks, great vid !
Well deserving to be 'filed away' to save them from being forgotten.
A great recycling!

Got any files laying around?
@@lhtyeehaw1319 an average person usually doesn't have access to a shop like this
You don’t need much equipment for a knife like this. Grab a cheap file and an angle grinder. Not much to it. Heat it up with a torch and quench it in peanut oil. It would be different if you were trying to forge a knife. All this video showed is how to grind a file into a knife shape
@@SergioPena20 Ah yes, cuz everyone has an angle grinder laying around. Hell, I don't even have a file like that at my house. It would be cheaper for me to just buy a knife.

This is art. I don't give a sh1t if you disagree. The amount of work, skills and time that goes into it is just crazy. Awesome job man!

That does make sense.
Hi mom
That knife is awesome great work it's excellence!!! I would buy one today

Nicely made. Very satisfying video. I made my first knife from an old file when I'm in my early teens. Not as nice with an oversized walnut handle, but I loved that knife. Nothing I've had, before or since, could keep an edge like good old-fashioned high carbon steel.
hi
Yeah man, my 1950s file knife has faaaaar better edge retention than 10V, or maxamet............
"High carbon" used to mean ~1%. Theres steel like zdp189 with over 3% carbon now. Your old file knife was trash.
