It’s worth noting that on gravel, finding the good line often makes a huge difference. This often negates the advantages of drafting, especially in a cross-wind. Group dynamics have to adjust accordingly.

Pretty happy to have come from a MTB background. Gravel is like MTB for toddlers, but it seems to mystify the road guys quite a bit lol

More pressure on rough stuff? Always heard that you'd go lower pressure to soak it up and maintain traction.

Hi Dan, your right! In some cases where you'd be running super rough terrain and getting rim hits youd have to increase a few PSI to help stop that. Seems like you already know the crack...but we've actually made a video covering gravel tyre pressure here in more detail th-cam.com/video/MHFEzTlS-8I/w-d-xo.html

It is counterintuitive, I agree. But what was meant is the compromise between cushioned ride and hitting rims hard on really rough rocks and roots.

Also, having in mind that tire size varies a lot between gravel bikes and mtb… if you’re a heavy guy like me, about 100kg, having a bit extra on the rear tire is really helpful, more comfortable and safer.

Great tips I like the monkey wiggle :-). Also if I may, use a full-face helmetlike they use in mtb - since forward projection of rider in gravel is more likely w washboards, ruts which may cause instantaneous stoppage and projection. We’re in “mtb land’ now, so mtb gear (full face helmet, elbow padding, etc)

As I live and learn i see how corporate greed and their marketing sellouts/tools will pitch anything and unintelligently rationalize concepts and facts to profit off of the gullible trend zombies. ALL misleading a side, if you want an excellent paved or off road biking experience get the bike that was scientifically designed for the category.
