Man this whole game was such a rare treat. I love how even now, there are things to be discovered. All in all it reminded me heavily on Half-Life 2 and Portal 2, the broken and partly abandoned hallways of huge facilities, the opressing character of who controls who, wich with the G-man and the Vortigaunts are also a huge theme throughout the game... Like the masked man are the first humanoid Combine to conduct tests, how to assimilate the human species as part of the combine empire. Some more agile and able to adapt and to fight, while some are even unluckier, only to be crippled slaves as Stalkers. I think there was even one Version of the Beta, where the combine used some kind of parasite (worms) to get control over planet earth.
The way that only the half of the blob that is visible to the player has texture, while the other half is transparent, makes its rampage even more terrifying from the "other" side.

Wow, really great videos. And this is fantastic game! Would you be able to read, what is written on the big blackboard (on the lower left corner), where the very last orb is located? I could not read it.
I think that more objects we see in the both Barichello's videos are only half-modeled as the game assumes the camera is in the standard angle and saves the necessary graphic performance.
For example, I found this just by doing nothing and thinking what to do next as the tank had already closed, faster than I realized I have to jump down there.
