Join along as we get wrenching on the combine to get it all sorted on the day off. With help from Isaah and Brad we wrap some of it up. Thanks for watching along.
Glad to see a larger TH-cam channel still running older equipment! Just getting my channel up and going and running a yellow top John Deere 6620 combine.
I love how real you keep your content. How you show us the good and the bad. You doing good for your first solo year with owning your operation. Don’t let the negative comments get too you. I love the content
So many Eddie the Expert’s, you got the guts and let’s get it done attitude to put your work life out on TH-cam. Every day is a school day, we never stop learning. Keep up the good work, you got some good people as friends and work colleagues now to bounce around with.😂
You said it right. You live and learn life goes on. Ignore the naysayers. People with a negative attitude live a miserable life. You’re getting it done every day. Keep on keeping on. Be safe
Don't matter much what brand of combine, they all are ultra high maintenance! Even the new ones will give grief, maybe even more so as they have so much more going on with all the electronics and more accessories than ever before.
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a very nice Black Friday. ME I got to chill and see five of seven of my sons and both of my grandchildren. I think that life gets busy for all of us especially the younger generations as things have become so very very demanding.
I use the German torque method . "Good en tight" i love your videos Chris people don't know how to have fun and farming is fun to me. The good the bad it's all in the game.. take care and keep the hammer down
I don't say much, but was that the noise you were hearing? I've learned so much about farming, just listening and watching you . Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Check your intercooler gaskets. Blow out and lose boost. That’s the easiest way is to take that half off the turbo and save breaking bolts for no reason. Also that little short tube shrinks from the heat with time
You ARE supposed to screw the cap down until the centre of the cap is level, there is some crops that read uncompressed on some meters, but I don't think maize is one of them. Also you should fill the cup level. Not being funny just trying to help. BTW your turbo tease out some steel wool roll it into a string like thickness make an O ring with it to take up the space it works a treat every time, clogs with soot quickly. Good luck.
on an IH 436 engine, there are 2 rings that go with that spacer at the turbo, i dont know if JD's are like that, but you said at around 13:35 the there is a ring inside the turbo. something to check into.
Afraid To comment before. But JD has a metal spring type gasket that is used to keep the exhaust pipe tight between it and the turbine. The need is because of heat creating varying expansion. That's what I was told. I need to replace mine. There is a very slight chance of a spark sneaking out of the gap. No smoke, no spark.
On some of the IH and CASE turbos they made a flat ring almost looked like a piston ring but wider, you had to squeeze it together and then it would lock into place and take out the slack
It's been almost 40 years since I've been in an 8820 and I probably spent 4,000 hours in those things back in the 1980's but I think i recall hearing a little chirping all the time coming from the turbo.
if you are going to replace that exhaust housing anyways just weld an exhaust flange straight to it and replace that next pipe piece with a flex pipe to relieve any heat expansion
One thing that impresses me young man is, you don’t cobble. You do things right due to you not wanting to do them twice? You started with a piece of equipment not quite up to par but will be when you are done. Mechanics are a part of farming that has to be done. Good job sir and thank Isn’t there supposed to be done metal rings on that piece, similar to a piston ring? I know on some trucks I worked in there was, just a thought sir.😊
Wondering if you can tighten up that turbo outlet pipe and quiet it down by wrapping a piece of rope around the groove between the turbo and the outlet pipe. I'm thinking of that high temperature gasket rope used to seal the door on wood stoves. It can take the heat, and should remain flexible enough to allow for thermal expansion.
You need to just put high temp silicone on that adapter sleeve. It will burn in and be sealed. Anytime you have an exhaust manifold off you coat the gaskets also so the manifold will not leak that black crap all over your pretty motor.
As always enjoy your videos and if you don't do it twice it's never done😂😂 I would go to hardware store and get some stuff called fireplace caulk it comes in red or black I have used it in a pinch . Home Depot usually carries it anyway good luck
Duffy, know anybody with a metal lathe? You could build up that diameter by running a bead of weld, then lathe it to a closer tolerance so it does not rattle around.
Why do not to try put high temperature rop to seal gap betven turbo and extesion. I think that rope can find in store because it is used for woodstove to seal dors and cooking paltes. Not nice but ic can solve your problem. Sealing and reduce vibration and bad knocking sound. Your videos is grat and keep going on.
My 4955 has a similar expansion coupler as that, i replaced the cast housing and the intermediate piece and that cured my exhaust leak, cast housing was under $100 my exhaust housing on the turbo did look a little better than that tho
Spray PB blaster or free-all or some really good penetrating oil on those turbo bolts every day even when your going to run it for the day. Just trust me and do it. Every day if you can multiple times a day. If not then at least once a day untill you’re ready to pull the turbo. You can thank me later
9 X out of 10 alway's with these turbo setups there not supported what so ever except for the manifold. 👉👉Suggest making mounting bracket's welded to support cross pipe in front. To reduce vibrations and flexing. The stiffer the unit is the less it's likely to fail in these older models.🧐🧐👍👍TRICK for the insert gaps. Use fiberglass exaust rings to seal the gap from the online river store. You will have to grind or belt sand the OD and dremmel the ID to fit the slot.
Ya know... Not the worst thing to repair in the field... Your not laying in the mud. Lol ill trade ya yesterday's....i couldnt see road deck most of yesterday and i was empty for half of it. Lol
So what you are saying is actually you should put on some headphones and some music so you do not hear bad and strange noises... (yes this is meant to be sarcasm...)
Those safety glasses work better over your eyes and not over the brim of your hat , just had to pick on you because you pointed out the safety glasses . Older equipment works fine if you get the wear part replaced and they are a lot cheaper !
It's wild really, I've rarely been in a position to buy brand new equipment and have had to work on most things I buy to get them usable. The people that don't understand have either had everything handed to them or are ignorant.
Chris you have the best machine people to work on that John Deere right on the farm with you but the party comes first it's Thanksgiving eve only comes once a year.
I know you were kidding but a piece of shite combine would not be getting the corn off 😆 .. also tinkering gives you stuff to do whilst waiting for the truck
Buddy why can't you just straight pipe out to the turbo don't understand why they have it like that would make no difference to the turbo save money no noise
Chris your doing good. Well just ignore all the haters they’re hating on you because they are weak and and just want to try and make crap for you. You do you and maybe one day they will learn to only do them. You are kicking it in the butt and your going to make it to the top. Just keep putting the foot in front of the other. Keep at it Duffy. Don’t give up. Good job. 👍

There’s corn in here in northern Indiana that was planted first week of may that’s still 28%.
The joys of wrenching on combines been down that road with 6620 and 7720
Happy Thanksgiving Robert! And Duffy, and Isaiah and Yenko
I'm glad to hear that you caught the one problem thanks for the comment on the steel wool trick

Steel wool might work as a spacer without the mess.

I believe that is an aftermarket part that goes between turbo and exhaust elbow
@craigadair128 could be I took a pic of it but it won't let me download on the comments for some reason
The gaskets needed to get hot and seal up it’s good now that was blow by
Junck right!
Not!!!
It is the best way to go!

Happy thanksgiving Chris stay safe my friend

if you are going to replace that exhaust housing anyways just weld an exhaust flange straight to it and replace that next pipe piece with a flex pipe to relieve any heat expansion

I see A farmer doing his best moving on
Hey duffy when the time comes you should really looking to a small service truck it would probably make you life so much easier doing field work
I'm positive you will get all the bugs out of the combine by next harvest year if you're not learning your not living
Thats exactly what I was thinking xhaust putty
Think about sending the turbo to area diesel services and get it repaired.

I made this same comment a few videos back, it works great I’ve done it on a few 4430’s and 4440’s
Buy a new dam turbo quilt messing around
I know the pain of wet corn I rent all my land with no storage or dryer to use and this fall I had to send corn to town at 22 percent moisture as well

Permatex muffler putty I got my Carhartt I really like them them
Good thanksgiving joke
I have a exhaust piece with the 3 bolt flange that's tight if you are up in Washington County sometime
Happy Thanksgiving Chris
Tin foil works to seal up exhaust leak at turbo, make a little " cigar" put in turbo housing, don't ask how I know!!!
Aluminum foil works great for exhaust leaks
Duffy, know anybody with a metal lathe? You could build up that diameter by running a bead of weld, then lathe it to a closer tolerance so it does not rattle around.
If it is 2 tight when I f gets hot it will break the elbow
get some exhaust rope gasket and holed it on with a pipe clamp
Could have used a large section o ring to take up the slack....
Like notching holes to slide in closer.
Issues and issues and issues......
Wear noise cancelling headphones. Problem goes away.
Here in North Korea, we turn the radio up loud
@@anthonybarton2103 north korean farmers are not allowed to turn music up loud, some have said its questionable if they use combines. just kidding

As I said before it's the coupling and outlet pipe worn out. When you rev it up it blows exhaust out around it causing the noise

Nothing on a harvester is safe from mice
Why not pull turbo off green Mack
cant you do a spot weld
Ignore the negative comments. Your doing great an fixing your combine you always find a way to get it done.
Ya know... Not the worst thing to repair in the field... Your not laying in the mud. Lol ill trade ya yesterday's....i couldnt see road deck most of yesterday and i was empty for half of it. Lol
You have a turbocharger that wants to be free.
What about high temp silicone
Exhaust coming out of turbo is anywhere from 300 to 1100 degrees
I've used the red silicone to seal v band clamps it still burns but if it place it correctly it will harden up and seal warped/worn flanges.
What are they walking for drying cost
Pack it out with jb weld
So what you are saying is actually you should put on some headphones and some music so you do not hear bad and strange noises... (yes this is meant to be sarcasm...)

Soldier on.

Sell your wet corn for high moisture if your were closer I know someone who is the market for 200 ton or so
