This show really was ahead of its time. Bonds of friendship, the metaphors of toxicity, how each was being eaten by their own, how it turned friend against friend, until in the end they all found something that mattered, and helped her turn the tied against her own insanity, her own anxiety, her own depression. Series was everything the following 7 years have been on the social ends of the world. This was an art house anime in every sense of the word.
Black Rock Shooter is basically Madoka Magica but even greater. There are numerous references to each show in both of them. They've even invited Sayaka's seiyuu to voice Kagari. And yes, it was ahead of its time and still is, and yes, it is an arthouse cinema, probably the most high budget arthouse TV show ever created. Sadly braindead Lain fans could not understand that arthouse does not need to compensate bad animation with meaningful stories to be arthouse, not to mention the shounenfags who don't even know the definition of the word "arthouse".
Although the anime's story was confusing to me, the animation for Black Rock Shooter is like nothing I've ever seen, I can't tell if it's 3D animation or 2D. Which ever it's awesome and I'd love to learn about it.

The movie was before the manga, plus, the creator of the original artwork of BRS wanted to make the movie & anime, and wasn't apart of the manga creation. As to attention, I'm not sure, but I agree, I think it deserves a little more attention.
As much as I want to see B⭐RS in DEATH BATTLE, I think her stories and powers might be a bit too abstract to properly analyze. Thus, she'll probably never make it there. 😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩

The real word scenes with Mato and them were 2D, while the otherworld scenes were done in CGI.
