  • here a good honest review of a XTD stage 2 clutch also being compared to an OEM one.

    I had the worst experience with XTD, granted this was probably 6-7 years ago. Bought a stage 2 kit and the pressure plate failed in about 30 miles. I don't dump the clutch or bang gears either. Throw out bearing was also starting to fail, pilot bearing was the wrong size.

    Been on my xtd stg 2 since Oct 2016. Love it and still pops hard when you need it or smooth when you cruise. No complaints.

      Late reply but very smooth..no chatter and engaged very consistent. 4 yrs later I'm on same clutch. Going b series early next year and I'm rolling the stg 2 again with 9lb flywheel.

    I've seen clutches that look just like this on Amazon but branded "EFT". I wonder if they're the same manufacturer.

  • @subtledriver
    @subtledriver 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    there are more springs yes, but that actually makes the clutch weaker. There is less material between the springs and it is more prone to fail. There are less riviots compared to the exedy pressure plate as well, and that also makes it weaker and more prone to flex. the oem clutch pressure plate is balanced, and the xtd is not, this causes vibration and long-term damage to the crank and drivetrain components. more springs doesn't mean stiffer, it just means it has different design. the springs are there to absorb drivetrain shock, not necessarily for easier engagement. the engagement is easier or harder based on the friction material on the disk. organic material slips or has less "grip", compared to copper or metalic.

      @@dahiphopog6271 many hundreds of clutch installs and interactions with many vehicles and layouts has thought me a few things. Design, setup, quality and usage all matters. When it comes to being an aftermarket company, seems like all you have to do is make something that looks similar to the OEM.
    Exhausts for example. Just make a soda can.

    Looks like the XTD clutch disk has a decent amount of copper composited into the organic carbon friction surface. It'd be good to know how many years of service it's good for. Ebay has an XTR stage 2 that looks exactly the same, and looks like it has similar specs but with Kevlar composited into the friction disk, but at $63 I'm hesitant to buy it. I don't want to drop the transmission again in the next few years haha. I just want something smooth enough for daily driving, but tough enough to handle a day at the track.

    I have a gti mk6, I use the car daily to my job, I dont race or go fast, sometimes in the highway but normally I go slow and easy. My clutch shakes my car a lot when in 1st gear only, in the rest of gears run good. When the engine is idle it sounds like a helicopter but when I press the clutch the chopper sound disappear. Question is, should I get a OEM, stage 2? On Ebay I saw clutch kits for 1k!!! And then I saw xtd stage 3 ceramic clutch kit for 190!!! I'm confuse why that insane price difference...idk

    • @NITROKID98

      If you’re not looking to receive any performance out of the clutch I would definitely go OEM cause it does sounds like you’re having issues with your XTD

    • @TimFanslau91
      @TimFanslau91 ปีที่แล้ว

      Xtd are made in China, oem clutch for gti is made in Germany. The 1k+ clutches you are looking at are likely high end performance ones. You can grab a luk clutch set (oem) off rock auto for about 300$. A stage 3 clutch of any sort will be trash for a daily driver

      Insurance fee
