AirNZ need to focus on better staff. A recent trip back from Singapore was horrendous. My husband was vomiting from food poisoning for 6 hours and the staff barely battered an eye. We will not fly Airnz again.

I haven’t been back to Auckland in years. What I did notice whilst sitting across from my hotel @ The Novotel Hotel were 2 things.
The beautiful view of the Manukau Harbour @ sunset.
    & the international terminal.
    Which resembled a large dank,damp cow shed.😂
& surely in this day and age.
Domestic & International terminals have to be under one roof.
    If it costs. It costs.
Auckland needs a better terminal both domestic & international. To match the back yard view of the Manukau Harbour.
Airlines have no scruples about raising their prices when one browses via their apps without making a decision.
Then a minute later you can decide go back in & the same seat has gone up somewhat.
It’s the pot calling the kettle black.

I’m fine with the airport working to improve its infrastructure… but again their investment for that new transport hub/ car park hub, is completely short sighted… can we do public train service to our airports please? Do not need a car park hub, when majority uses express public transport to get there.
For travellers, if we are honest and practical, always rely on someone to drop us off or pick us up via car or bus. They probably may want to send us off, hence need the car park, or if we drive ourselves, may need extended car parking for our return.
When simply express train service would alleviate much reliance on private transport. It’s also efficient as it has higher capacity than busses. And if it’s reliable, it would easily be the preferred option in the long run.

Wouldn't it be fair to say many people using the facilities might be from other countries and they would spend more in NZ if they were world class? Not sure what this was, was he avoiding something talking about a smart investment? Are those who can't afford to pay for an airport meant to wait until we have flying electric cars, should we be expecting a paradigm shift?

@@ShirleyZhang-bt4dj I don't think anyone is holding their breath. All in time. But electric planes are already flying. There are immense constraints, but developments are fairly fast in battery energy density. EU is developing glider planes, so the recreational market is leading. Clearly short haul flights will be leading the action for electric passenger planes, and hypersonic flight for London to Sydney, or London to Auckland. That is why Air NZ has to be relevant, because if Qantas leads, Air NZ loses major business. Its larger plane fleet becomes redundant. This is why CEOs need to be on top of future technology.

Oh Jack, you are a smart guy, but you make a blatant moral error here, assuming:
    1. Industry players are illegitimate for acting in self interests
    2. The Commerce Commission is legitimate for purporting to act in the public interest.
The Air NZ CEO knows better. Interests have to be qualified, whether selfish or custodial. He rightly alludes to the dogmatic compartmentalisation of responsibility.

Bro .... petty good at stringing some words to together, I'm thinking the same sentiments. We all know maintenance is a cost to the fleet and laying off staff is quick way of cutting costs, but the consultants are the ones sucking up the cash. What happens the projects get started, prices get jacked and you have a blowout, things you didn't invision happen, then the only way out is the consumer. Happy flying AirNZ.

Moving to Singapore Airline or Emirates, their airports facilities are so much better back in their home country. Both Air New Zealand and New Zealand Airport are short sighted in their long term planning. I treat all NZ infrastructure as second class, on its way to third class on the international stage.
Please consider a typical traveller’s experience happening even before they arrive to the airport. Work together for Christ sake. It’s not helping that they are fighting against each other.
This CEO is waffling and not on point to the topic.

Geopolitical tension and Air NZ get airtime? No word on Aotearoa not being represented at ICJ with 50 countries against genocide. Nothing on our coalition being aligned with US, UK, or EU politicians that financially support and provide weapons for genocide against their own people. There is nothing on people being starved to death as a war strategy. Nothing on colonisation, theft of lands and illegal occupation of a people that never ceded sovereignty, a topic we have advanced knowledge and experience. Our view on geopolitical tensions is about AI, air travel profits and Air NZ. Embarrassing.
