Point taken about the figures: their fragility looks like a problem if you bought this set for a child. But as an adult builder, I rarely display figures from any manufacturer with my sets because they all look silly in some way, particularly the terrible Lego minifigs, with their bizarre shapes and proportions that people accept out of long habit or childhood nostalgia. I'd rather not pay extra for any figures from any manufacturer: Lego, FunWhole, Cobi, etc.
Id 100% buy these sets if their figures were like mega's... the train is insanely good same with the water tower, but those figs for sure awful to look at haha
Their figures look like that due to Lego. Lego have been contesting all figures from other producers in court due to a copy right on the minifig design. Lego has aggressivly had whole containers confiscated by customs and try to have any figure, that resembles a Lego figure too closely, destroyed per court order. This is particularly difficult for small shop owners importing 1-2 containers from china at a time as it can bankrupt them. The court case can take months in which they cannot access the building bricks they have already paid for. So the importers have started to work together with chinese companies to design "safe" figures. The results are often like the Funwhole figure. Anything with a head, arms and legs is challenged in court by Lego. Lego seems to be avoiding challenging Mega because Mega Construx is too big and also has a lot of money and can withstand a lengthly court case.
I don't think a lot of people who adore Lego know what a giant bully they are in the EU, trying to shut down the competition instead of beating them on a level playing field. Because let's face it: Lego quality has been slipping while their prices rise to ever more insane levels, while the best competitors are putting out products that are more interesting or better made and for less money.
@@DemarcationMedianot that it doesn’t burn hot enough, they just need a deeper firebox. Which makes the fireman’s life a living hell as you have to keep chucking wood in their lest you want to stall the engine on the grade.
It looks amazing. I wish it was powered though (as in self-propelled). I know its too fragile to be powered but that's what I wish. I could go either way on the figures - definitely something other than what it comes with though.
I can think of so many different stop motions with this, but I probably won't get it, just a tad to much, I hav enough more spendable money after a got the youtooz grunt plush (got it instead of the halo 2 figure pack) amazing video!
Honestly, the for me it's a tie. The American type 4-4-0's didn't having pivoting drivers, as those wouldn't be around for a while (late 1880's), the tenders could be better on both, and the Funwhole has the best proportions. My only grips are color and accuracy. Mega wins in a gawdy color scheme aspect, while Funwhole made it seem like it's post-1900, and the cars are VERY lacking, even LEGO lacks in that. The passenger cars for the time would be pushing 40ft long, if not exceeding 40ft, and most freight cars at that time being 30-36.5ft long. Also, for steam locomotives there are 3 fuels that can be burned, and a proto-type 4th type. Those being oil, coal, and wood for the known types, and the prototype is hydrogen fuel(via fuel cells). And that "cargo car" is called a flatcar, they were the second most common back then with boxcars, and what today are either called gondola's in North America, or "Open-top wagons" over seas. And before people say I'm missing two types of car, tank cars were not as common yet, and stock cars I'm lobbing in with boxcars.

I don't get the hate for the figures. They are visually more realistic than lego's blocky figures. I mean sure the mechanics and fragility could be improved but visually the seem fine. Just different.
They simply do not work well. Terrible posing, they can't move their arms straight, the arms break easy, they can't even use their own seats, the heads have a very weird shape with that lip at the chin. There's not much good about them aside from the print design.
@@DemarcationMedia Well yea the mechanics and fragility can be improved but the actual look of the figure I think is fine. You may not like the "weird shape head with the lip", but some people might. It's totally subjective. I mean... lego mini figs have cylinder heads and blocky bodies. They inherently look weird but we are all used to it now because they've looked that way for decades. I see your criticisms as valid but a tad harsh. I bet these will be improved over time.

I playtested these figures on a lot of kids and every time they see one of these figures, they thought it was stupid and wanted to toss them aside and mess with the bricks. And none of the adult collectors who have seen them have enjoyed them either. The chin lip is the first thing everyone comments on and nobody who has tested it for me liked it. It also could cause issues in future for full head helmets
I don’t really care about minifigures. For me they’re not part of what I like about the hobby: building great sets with good quality pieces, and in those fronts FW delivers. I leave the figs in the box.

@@DemarcationMedia i can’t say if you’re right or wrong there cause I don’t have experience with mega construx but from what I see in this video the majority of those pieces are Lego original pieces so I’m not sure you can call it better then Lego when they have just stolen there formula for pieces price and lights maybe but I don’t know how you can look at those pieces and say hey yeah mega construx definitely came up with that on there own 😂😂🤦♂️

One of the best things about FO sets is the specialist pieces for hiding the light cables. Including lighting kits and installing as you go is so much better than trying to add light kits to Lego sets after they've been built.. Oh, and way cheaper.

The mega construx train tender is not coal, it's wood. some steam locomotives burn wood, some burn coal, & they burn oil.

Fair enough. Figures are a big part of why I collect, and Mega figures in particular strike a good balance between goofy and serious
