Otis, I haven't commented in a while, but every time you post a video, I'm watching it. I offered to buy you a drink a long time ago and that offer still stands. Thank you for sharing all this with us. The history you're documenting is a treasure to every dreamer to ever hold a guitar. Really man, thank you for what you do. I will meet you one day, and I will buy you a drink, even if it's coffee, you deserve at least that much. From the catfish song to Sputnik Monroe, to all the stories you've shared, thank you. I particularly like the Mojo Nixon story about keeping you from getting your ass kicked, that's always how I imagined a dude that writes the songs he wrote being. I'm headed out soon, and I hope to run into you. Again, thank you for doing what you do, the world is a little brighter as a result. Keep it coming brother.

I can just hear Otis’ reply: No thanks, but I’ll take the money instead. My husband used to say that as a joke when he mostly quit drinking.😊

Two things. This made me miss my Texas youth really bad. I started playing clubs in the 70s in Houston and the southwest. I miss it. And the other thing is I can't think of a single guest you e had that I wouldn't love to hang out with, including yourself.
I believe youvw succeeded with your work, I really do , Otis

I didn't want it to end . I grew up in Schertz Tx and in highschool worked at the Bluebonnet country club, as a kid I didn't realize some of the history I was witnessing, between the Bluebonnet and Gruene hall . Now I live right down the road from Whitewater amphitheater , Willie Nelson concerts are truly a thing of legends here . April Willie and ZZ Top, I can't wait . I Truly enjoy your videos . Thanks for the work your doing .

Fabulous as always. Bought my copy of the author's book last week. Will get to it after reading the other great book I'm reading now. CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE - very well written pleasure read. Especially because I once met SRV in Munich, Germany circa 1988. On a down night at a club called The Sugar Shack. Yes SRV had the Spanish hat on his head. And he appeared to be definitely sober to me. Was just a short exchange. But I'll never forget it.

A good friend of mine worked at the FETUS. (A real Dead head Charlie G). that was my main music store. I shopped there a bunch. Incredible selection. I bought Norhtern Lights Music. Used that inventory to open my short lived "the Slippery Disc'.

I love hearing Joe's stories about Willie. I have seen him more than any other artist. My parents took me to my first Willie show at Summerfest in Milwaukee in 1977. I would really like to hear more about Micky Raphael. Micky has had an incredible career and there has to be some good Micky stories.

Wow, Otis...truly appreciate all that you do! I am also an Indy Native (northwestsider) and have been following you for several months now. This is one of my favorite interviews so far that you have done. I discovered Willie while at Vincennes U in '76 and have been a fan ever since. I still think his "Live" album from the PANTHER HALL BALLROOM is probably my favorite. So real...so "live" , if you will...people screaming & hollering from the audience make it even better! Wish I could find a CD of that! Thanks for all you do and keep up the great work!

This was a great trip down memory lane for me. In January of '73 I was living in a hi-rise dormitory in Austin that had retail space at street level, specifically a record store. One day I walked in there and the guy behind the counter answered my questions about the music that was playing on the overhead system. He was well informed, helpful and coolly enthusiastic. I remember his name to this day because the music he identified that day still floors me. The guy behind the counter was and is Joe Nick Patoski! 😎

Great interview, you let the guest talk. You (and Leland Sklar's YT channel), are doing a great job in relating the history of the music, the origins, the business, the production, the players, the tech, and the camp followers, that mean so much to so many of us. This is valued, and valuable, thank you.

I am not a musician and all I've ever done with music is listen to it but I love your take on the other side of it. I'm from Waco, Texas and when I was a teenager Willie played at Geneva Hall on weekends for fifty cents for the under 21 crowd. I've seen Willie so many times he knew everybody in our family. My folks dragged us kids to every Louisiana Hayride and Ozark Jubilee that came through Waco. When I was pretty young Elvis was in the lineup ....but my first concert was the Beatles August 19th 1965. I knew Billy Joe Shaver and quite a few other musicians from Waco because my older brother ran a club. I love your channel. My favorite TH-cam channel and sometimes I just listen to the latest one and let it just loop through any you've done. I pick you over Willie but Willie sure is a nice guy.

Ok, short Willie story from the mid 1990's. I was a drummer new in town and working with a low level original band doing road work on the weekends or whenever. Had a security job at the state capitol complex sitting at the front desk on off days signing people in and out = often Sunday's with one eye open 6am -6pm. I would walk from the apt in South Austin to the capitol buildings around 5:30am crossing the bridge. There was a park with a park bench near the sidewalk I passed every morning in the gray light of dawn. On the bench was this homeless guy in grey cotton sweats and a grey beard. We'd nod. Anyway - He was walking towrad me on the sidewalk in the dark one morning to the bench and he says; "Hi, I'm WIllie." I stepped around him and said; "good for you" and kept going. My co-worker informed me that it's Willie. Haha - met him twice later and he was super cool.
