    I just recently got back into Trainz and oh my God this system is so many times better than ATLS. Thanks for the tutorial!

    • @colbylawson5331
      @colbylawson5331 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion, ATLS is far better than TRC as TRC loves malfunctioning at the wrong freaking times. In fact, ATLS works near perfectly whereas TRC has a 50% chance of working correctly. I favor taking 5 minutes of my time setting up ATLS over trying to figure out why my TRC setup isn't functioning correctly.

    Recently got back into Trainz because Minecraft, and Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts cannot scratch the creative itch I got...I needed this because the last two days I've had railroad crossing bells ring in my head even AFTER I got off to take a break...and it's my first custom route.

    Hey Medium...I'm glad you found these. I was telling you about these back in the summer when I first found you on TH-cam. I wish the author would tweak these just a bit, but for detail and easy setup, they are the best.

      "Medium" lol, first time I've been called that haha. I remember you telling me about them a while ago. Just took me a bit to get caught up. I think as time goes on we'll see new versions developed. There's definitely some payware versions out there too. I forgot the website tho. I'll have to look it up when I get home from work.

    I know this video is three years old, but I'm new here. When it was mentioned that the traffic stopper was "malfunctioning" because it allows traffic through, before the gates were fully opened, that's because he's using the wrong stopper. The TRC stoppers don't allow traffic through until the gate is fully open. If you need a "wider" area to stop traffic, use the "TRC Traffic Stopper 2, 3 or even 7 tracks". If you need it narrow, use the "TRC invisible rail crossing 90º" Don't get stuck on the 90º part, only attach the road not the track and it can be rotated to any direction. Also, the naming convention (in TRS2019 [111951]) can be "anything&anything". I use "Street Name&Object Name". Spaces are ok. It sure beats "215&3" and keeping track of numbers you've used. I hope this is helpful for someone.

    Hello Approach Medium. Thank you for this tutorial, this helped me yes, but I have a few problems and I would like to comment them here in hopes you could possibly have a solution. Problem number 1, the gates tend to go up way too early before the train even hits the intersection or as the train is passing, and I followed your steps, in my case, I'm building a route and I had an RR crossing to test if it works, I had the trigger as 10&1, the RR crossings 10&2 and 10&3, and the traffic stopper 10&4. Problem number 2, the cars do not stop when the gates go down. Problem 3, it rarely happens but it does sometimes, the gates go up and down and up and down and up and down. If you have a solution or know of a video that can help, or if I'm missing a step and i do not know of, I would greatly appreciate this. I am also a fan of your P&B route to add on :)

    • @colbylawson5331
      @colbylawson5331 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've noticed that too. It has to do with the placement of the TRC closure things as well as what the TRC system is feeling. TRC is practically the reason I still favor ATLS over any other kind of traffic control system. Let's not forget that Trainz is slightly more realistic than DTG's Railworks as Train Simulator and Railroad Simulator are two different things depending on how you look at it. In my experience with TRC, I had to stop using TRC because of how horrible the functionality was compared to the ATLS system, which while requiring a little work to set up, works near perfectly and has zero draw backs to using it. I've never once had to fix an ATLS crossing. Well, the only actual time I had to fix an ATLS crossing was when I set the trigger channel to another crossing's channel instead of the channel of the crossing I was actually setting up. I only realized that mistake when I ran a train through the crossing. The crossing 100 feet from it went off. I had to change the channel to the correct channel and boom, the correct crossing signals went off. Regarding that mistake, ATLS is better and proves to be far more efficient than TRC. I wish people would understand that ATLS should never be replaced, as it's very vital to Trainz and due to how TRC tends to be broken 99% of the time, I couldn't understand how the Trainz community would prefer broken TRC over efficient ATLS.

    This could be an answer for me and adding these into existing routes with minimal disturbance to the route. I love the fact that there is no "wiring" needed for this to work. I can see this working in a LOT of places on my Live Stream Route, where the tracks and roads are already established. I am going to enjoy experimenting with these. Starting T:ANE now. Well....there goes this weekend, LOL!
    Am I correct in guessing that you only need one trigger on each track in a double mainline scenario?

    • @ApproachMedium
      @ApproachMedium  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have a double track you’ll need a trigger on each track but they can be within the same group

    • @NJP76

    It has been my experience that when the traffic stopper is not connected to the track, the gates will open after the train has passed the trigger by approx 50m, and the forward/backward distances are from the trigger. However, if you have the traffic stopper connected to the track, it will measure the distance from the trigger to the stopper and when seeing trains approach from the opposite direction, will behave as if the same trigger is at the same distance on the opposite side of the stopper.

    • @TheMetalwrench
      @TheMetalwrench 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have built this as shown and will not work as describe. Only from the rear of the trigger will it work but as soon as the train crosses the road the arms go up and lights off. I have attached the track to the traffic stopper as well with the same results. I have also reinstalled the game due to pc issues and I have the same results. Frustrating...

    • @frankrunner2620
      @frankrunner2620 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting. I am seeing issues with trains from the opposite direction but thought I needed two triggers for bi-directional running. I used one of the "package" crossings that include the traffic stopper. I am going to be spending some time with this over the next few days, and will report back here.

      I will tell you what worked for me after many many hours of experimenting: Use 2 triggers, set each one 200 FEET from the road, set rear radius 100 meters, front radius 200 meters. Road connected to stopper, tracks not connected to stopper. This works for both train directions, and gates are held firmly down until train clears the 2nd trigger. Next, I will be trying setups with track connected to stopper. Drives me crazy but keeps me outa trouble...good luck.

  • @frankrunner2620

    Thanks much. Great vid! This is pretty much what I have been looking for since I discovered the ATLS system. I'm thinking that the issue with the traffic resuming before the gates are up should be a fairly simple task for someone who knows scripting. I have done just a bit of it, so I will take a look at the .gs files and see if I can figure it out. So far as the LOD goes, there may be a way to change it, but I have never developed any content, so not very familiar with that.
    What I am interested to know is whether this system will work properly if there is a junction within the active area of the trigger. For example; a train is approaching a diamond with junctions where there is also at least one road crossing. If the switches are lined so that the train will take the junction onto the other track and not continue on to the road crossing, will the gates stay up, will they come down and go back up, or will they stay down until??
    I will be setting up these scenarios today on TANE SP2.
    Final comment: A weird coincidence; my Trainz user name is approach_medium only the _ is different between your TH-cam channel and my Trainz name. Not sure if you're using the same username on Trainz as your TH-cam channel, but perhaps I will ask to have my username changed to avoid confusion. Either way, it's not a big deal.
    Again; Thanks very much for this tutorial!

    • @ApproachMedium
      @ApproachMedium  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With regards to the scenario you mentioned, I think it will have a lot to do with the placement of the trigger. If the trigger is on the far side of a junction, I would think it's not going to see the train approaching. The way these triggers work is that they scan the track for trains the distance you set ahead of and behind the trigger. So if there's a junction fouling that view I don't think it'll trigger. But you can use multiple triggers within the same named group to work off of sidings or parallel tracks. A lot of it comes down to experimenting and seeing what works best for your given track plan.
      One problem I did notice with these is when you split your train. If you activate the crossing with a train, then uncouple from half the train and proceed through the crossing it'll still stay triggered even after you're out of range. I think it has to do with how it first detects the train and its make up. It's something that can cause some headaches in yard areas or along a ROW like I have in Old Town.

    • @ApproachMedium
      @ApproachMedium  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also my Trainz username is actually very different from this so I wouldn't worry about it.

    • @frankrunner2620
      @frankrunner2620 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK. Thanks. BTW; I am having some issues with the TRC system when it is set up for trains running in both directions on the same track. I have to work with it a lot more before i will know what is happening and what is causing it. For now, it appears that the sequence is thrown off only in one direction when the train approaches the trigger for the other direction.
      Without two triggers, trains from only one direction will trigger the crossing.

    Hello, I am wondering if you could help me. Recently I purchased TRS 2019 and imported a route I'd begun in TANE. Having done so, I have found an issue with all of my TRC Crossings in that none of them are working when trains are crossing. Even after checking to find that all triggers (2012) and signals are properly configured according to how I had them before and also removing and reinstalling everything on one crossing, I don't see any change. Anything to suggest? Any KUIDs to find and download? Anyone you know of who I could reach out to?

      Currently some trc crossings are broken. I think the ones on the DLS will work as well as the ones from The Backshops. There is also a thread on the Trainz forums about how to get the other ones to work.

      Same set up. Just use the same naming structure on additional triggers.

    So far, I have built this... and has not worked well at all. no matter how i set the detection distance using "both" as soon as the train enters the crossing the gates go up and car roll on... lol, must be glitching.

      Go to the download station and type in blue grid and you will find a download and then download to trainz. Hope this helps

      Same exact setup. Just use triggers on each additional track.

    the person that made to the TRC system is not American so in short he did not know that the railroad crossing sign on the crossings themselves should be one over the other
