  • In this video Upholstering Channel Back Chair Part 2 of 4, Measuring and cutting the pieces for the channel back, Kim teaches you how to create the inside back of a channel back chair. The entire process involves measuring, cutting, sewing, stuffing and attaching the assembly to the upholstered chair frame.
We have made this process in to a 4 part tutorial.
Part 1 Measuring and cutting the pieces for the channel back.
Part 2 Assembling and sewing the channels together.
Part 3 Stuffing the channels with cotton or your choice of filler.
Part 4 Attaching the completed assembly to the chair frame.

Great video. You are obviously very skilled, not to mention a great teacher. Maybe not a beginners project. But then again, you can't learn if you don't try. Thanks for your time and effort.

don't you want to sew on the line of the backing fabric rather than line up the raw edge there? sewing inside that line would make your backing panel short by a half inch....or off center by a half inch.

Hi Barbara, I have accounted for that half inch in my original measurements. It works! We offer a more detailed video on our membership site too. Classes.kimsupholstery.com . Thanks for watching, Kim

Kim, in Part 1, your sew lines was 5" and 3" on the backing. When you cut out the material you said 6 1/4 and 4 1/4. It appears to me you added 1 1/4 inch to each end for seam allowance. On part 2 at 1:14 you stated you was sewing allowing for the 1/2" seam allowance???? You cut these out a tad more than 1" am i missing something here? Is the extra 1/4" taken up someplace I'm not catching. Thanks Mike Yates. love your videos

You are correct. The face fabric is larger than the back to allow for a rounded channel area.
      Thanks for watching
