- Hello everyone, Well things were going great but then the racing pigeons got hit by several hawks in the same day. It was so terrifying for them that they didn't all return for 3 days! Enjoy the video

Always nice to see your birds ❤
What really strikes me is the peace and relaxed atmosphere in the loft. Lots of simple perches and the birds can fly the entire loft, nice and long.
Happy pigeons come home faster. Well done on your results.
Man, you're really done breeding in 2 rounds. You paired up at the perfect time too in December, I paired up late and only have 14 pairs, not a single young bird yet but I'm hopeful I'll get a team for young bird season , pray for me haha
man thats a bummer sorry to hear that buddie, hopefully they get back in the grove for you. can’t wait to see your old bird results
There is an appointed time for everything. Thank you for your counsel and wisdom. They will return, my friend! They are merely lurking above the tree tops. 🙏🏽
I agree with you. I think they are all back now. Just can't believe how long it took for them to get the courage. Thank you for your kind words
Thank you Mike ✅
Yep it happens to all of us, we have really bad perigan falcon problems in Australia when I was down to my last roller hen an only 5 cocks left I gave up flying
I wonder if your birds could get used to a large owl statue perched on the loft? There's good and bad days when it comes to hawks. It can't be avoided. I think your missing birds may come home when they are ready. Your red is a real beauty! Gorgeous! Love those white wings! Good luck on this year 's racing season. ❤🎉🕊️
Thanks for the kind words! I think all are back now hard to count, possibly missing one and that red one is such a good pigeon I'm so glad she got away.
I wanted to mention , also, that the Xmas lights were not taken down here where the birds hang out. A consequence appears to be lack of hawk activity.. no hawks for two months is very unusual for this time of year.🕊️🎄@@Rocky.Ridge.Pigeons
This is almost an everday thing at my place with Rollers, which is why I'm taking a long break from them and focusing on racing. The BOPs are a problem everywhere and it's not getting better.
Keep the faith mike
Build yourself a couple hawk traps, plenty of examples on line. Set them where neighbors can't see and always remember "loose lips sink ships".
Hi Mike so sorry to see that but it’s the nature and we will have days like this. I was in Turkey just came back two days ago. While I was gone we had -5 degree and my friend send me a picture of four pigeons frozen to death. I have never had this kind of problem. Hope things get better. Give my love to family 😘😘😘🕊️🕊️🕊️
Wow, so sorry to hear that my friend. You always think of Pigeons being OK with extreme cold but this shows they can only take so much I guess. I think all the birds are back now, but it took five days believe it or not! I hope you had a wonderful trip.
@ thanks we had a great trip the weather was wonderful we picked the right time by being so cold here in Orange, Virginia. I have never had a -5 degrees here. Sorry that four pigeons couldn’t handle it. But the nature does it’s own things. I am glad you have the birds back and so glad that your breeding is going so well. Good luck 🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️😊😊😊😘😘😘
Now to forget about the “pure” nonsense and you’re a real pigeon man! I’m happy you took matters into your own hands and got the job done. I know plenty of guys who are still stuck on the BS they see and hear. You’ll also find very few TH-cam pigeons channels you can stand to watch anymore. It’s bittersweet!!
most of them are out to sell pedigrees not fly birds. Same people you will find advocating OLRs.
@@SARizviLoft absolutely, when there isn’t any performance they push purity! Peddlers will sell you what ever you want 😂
Good to hear from you buddy, Believe me Adrian I don't care about purity much at all. I will breed some lines pure if they are doing well especially Houbens and HVR but there isn't that many pure out there anyway. Most do better when crossed and some of my very best racers come from parents that don't even have pedigrees. Thanks for your comment my friend.
Are these walk-in lofts or more like hutches?
I like your pigeon ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love you brother I like your pigeon
What do you feed your racers?
Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Hopefully whatever happened will not happen again.
I hope not because I'ts not good for their mind on race day to fly back to a loft that they are afraid of. Thanks Thomas
Lofts look good. Let me know if you will have a few whites available.
Thanks for the compliment! They will have some available in about a month. Feel free to check back with me thanks.
You brang back such a bad memory on my former property the next door neighbor had cats, one of them went onto my Sputnik the pigeons were that scared next loft fly half my 100 bird team would not come back.
Nice meeting
I love pigeon
Hi how are you 👋🏻💞💞💞💞
Nice day how are you beautiful pigeon ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
Hi Mike, I was curious, do you remember who in New Zealand you got your white homers from?
Hello Mike, yes I agree, this hawk business is very disheartening for us as pigeon carers.
We have hawks here in northern New Zealand too and I think one got my beautiful pure white cock bird on a toss the other day. Also anybody can open fire on my pigeons if they want, I live rurally, forty minutes drive to town. The hawks are a protected species. They are up there all the time. I do not race my twenty odd birds and don't even belong to a club, maybe one day, I'm 73, or maybe not. So when I release my birds I have to think that I may not see them again. A bit grim really. I have not had any birds come back injured and have not observed a hawk ever chasing them but my neighbour up the road has had trouble with injured pigeons as result of hawk attack. Duck shooting season is bad here. I released the birds for a fly one morning, forgot about the duck shooters and they let rip as soon as they saw my birds. My wife promptly screamed some very unkind words across the valley and luckily the shooting immediately stopped.
That comment about how ferocious hawks can be at breeding time makes a lot of sense, and extra caution needed at these times.
Keep up the good work Mike, your birds are superbly looked after and look it aswell.
🙂
It’s definitely a problem when the hawks are so protected but we can’t protect our birds! Plenty of people have told me they no longer fly pigeons because of this. I hope things go well for you and your pigeons. All the best my friend 👍
🙋🏻♂️. Got an idea. Use the duc hunters as allies. Tell them what u fly and what bothers them. Then reward the duck folks if they succeed. 🙏
👍👍👍
👍✌️😁🙏🏻
My man!!!
I like your pigeon white
How did your Trenton's do racing?
I don't have any on the old bird team but I will have some to try on this years young bird team. I'm sure they will do well.
You need a trained great horned owl to clean up those hawks at night
That would be pretty cool to have a trained owl!
🙋🏻♂️. The gho around me come for my birds. R they fast learners? I want to teach them to not eye my birds. 🙏
100% mike. You have to figure it out yourself and what works for you.
If your red check hen that is injured doesn’t or “ can’t fly anymore , and you don’t want to have her there…. I would take her in for you.
👍🏼
😁✌️
Ever considered a Wiggle Man ?
Was it an accipeter species that spooked the birds? They are the worst here in Ohio. Mostly the Cooper’s hawk, sometimes in winter a goshawk will show up.
yes we have coopers hawks and another type that looks almost the same. they can be nasty and very bold when they are hungry. I'm hoping they will slow down now that its getting warmer here in SC.
🙋🏻♂️ those types like to jump in the coop /enclosure from the top opening. Help them. 🙏

In my state you do whatever you need to do to protect your birds when a hawk or owl is killing them can you not do that?
They are protected here. $5000 fine if you mess with them. Not fair really when you consider the amount of money we have into our birds.
I’ve had some of the game chicken guys tell me they use flags and wind socks to help detour them you might try that good luck
@@cjenkins95 Teddy Roosevelt enacted the Migratory Bird Act of 1918 that made it a federal law, protecting Hawks, etc. You may want to reanalyze your interpretation of the law. It is a hefty fine, and ignorance is not a viable defense.
Game warden told us if they at destroying livestock chickens and other birds we was able to protect our animals

I hear you my friend!
All about motivation for old birds. Try widowhood
Thanks for the input 👍
You invite me I m going your house
This is very close to flegging time for babies of birds of pray and most hungry. You can Google and find out about that. Better not to fly birds till their chicks fledge.
It's hard because I have the first race on march 9, just over 4 weeks to get them trained! thanks for the info because it might be better to have untrained pigeons rather than no pigeons!
@@Rocky.Ridge.Pigeons. 🙋🏻♂️. I loft fly mine in twos. 👹s try but our🕊r stronger with us around. 🙏
