Well everyone’s at different stages and there’s nothing wrong with that, what feels to someone as their failed art might feel to someone else as their master piece, when you know you can do better you’re not gonna be happy with a piece because we all improve.

Shawna Riley yes agreed, I was just stating my opinion, everyone has their own level I can’t make them think their art is perfect or anything positive, but there’s nothing wrong with trying to complement someone. And you can’t exactly judge something that’s not finished, but you’ve got to agree that the final outcome was great in this case.

I love both, but when I look at them side by side, the original seems to capture the boyish, joyful spirit of him more. It was a nice reminder to me, as an artist, to appreciate the feeling in my work, even when it doesn’t look as skillful or polished as I might like.

the way i said sora upon seeing him on the thumbnail... riku could never, the before and after were both so lovely, the first version had a nostalgic feel to it, genuinely pulled at my heartstrings

I haven’t been this shook since the Peter Pan repaint! It’s literally so amazing how the entire atmosphere of the piece has improved with just a few refinements.

the first one almost has a dreamy feeling with the vague edges and faded colors, but the updated one feels so much more...real? it’s honestly great, the pencils brought out so much in the drawing

I do this all the time as I colour great with pencils and watercolour skills at the moment are lacking lol..I think the pencils are an excellent part of the kit ,especially when your learning and find watercolour a bit overwhelming ..I am a pencil colourist and I prefer them as I can feel the shapes of what I am colouring where as with a brush that feels less controlled..but I use this over pens too ..I just think it gives the characters much more depth ..He looks more defined and a bit of a cheeky chap too ,love his eyes they pop more now too ..l liked the other but this is a completely new level up 😀

Amazing video! your sketch technique is great! At the moment I am trying to experiment with different Prismacolor pencils to try and figure out which one works best for me. I believe that the verithin selection allows for the smoothest blending though it is the lightest in color. Keep up the good work! Blessings!

I’d like offer some constructive criticism and break up the monotony of the comments section here.
I’ve watched all of your videos and you’re very verbal about your frustrations with watercolor, and I have to say it’s brilliant insight for those who learn from your process, which makes it obvious that you enjoy more control in your pieces.
In my opinion, this piece looses its appeal as watercolor. By the end it’s hardly recognizable outside of being colored pencil. Which, is appealing in an entirely different way.
Your work is so illustrative and conceptually rich, I think your interest in incorporating colored pencil is a logical next step. That said, I fear that your watercolor work will loose its charm by becoming too controlled.
Have you considered working entirely in colored pencil or pastel? It may be helpful to take a break from watercolor for a beat and work in a very controlled medium. My hope is that you continue to explore your compositions in a way that’s more desirable to you, and continue your water color in a new direction, maybe style or subject matter. I know that’s a lot to expect but I can almost see how your work is going to evolve. This is all subjective of course.
Obviously, I’m a big fan. Your art is remarkable and it’s a joy to watch your process. Cheers✌️

I agree as well. Many artists use colored pencils over watercolor, but only as a finishing touch, an enhancement. Others just use the watercolor as a base for the pencils. Although these renderings are fun to watch, and the results are still great, they do seem to lose a little bit of that charm of her watercolor pieces and take on the form of the latter. I'd be interested to see a full colored pencil piece.

    • @dianarojo-jewell6091
      @dianarojo-jewell6091 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

The layering and color mixing on the hair and clothing still has that unique watercolor appearance that would be hellish to try to recreate with colored pencils (the amount of time to try to make that happen Oof), but the colored pencil helped clean up and shape areas that were too loose or flat.
It's a good combo but I wouldn't completely give up one or the other

As others have been saying, the before looked great and was hard to see a "fail" in it. But you really added so much life to it and the after really brought out so much detail and again, life. I am a fairly new subscriber and i would definitely love to see more ofbthese types of videos. Even when the older art isnt bad or a fail, its pretty neat to see the refreshed or given more detail to make it even better than the already great art. Tfs. Looking forward to watching more of your videos:)
Edit/additional comment: i would like to point out what i liked in the before, as it had a soft and painterly type of look. Which gives greater nostalgia (if thats the right word) or brings us back to our childhood with that storybook type of look to it. I hope that makes sense. Lol im having a hard time getting out what i am trying to really say lol. But again, the after looks spectacular as well with more dimension (also not sure if thats the wprd im looking for) and it turned out great. Tfs again!

Wow beautiful! I haven’t played kingdom hearts but I can tell that Sora is definitely a very nice, likable character because of all the warm colors out used. The only piece of advice I would say is to next time do most of the work in watercolor because you used lots of color pencil and the drawing doesn’t look like it was done in watercolor. But great job! 9.9/10!

I don’t care what you say Chris, I needed you to finish rendering that right eye, it was driving me mad the left one looked soooo good. I’ve been struggling to get better at rendering my sketches (just in graphite for now) and a big takeaway I’ve gotten from following along with your videos is to stop laying in huge even tonal swatches, and to instead carefully pick my focal points, build up the contrast, and add some random bits of interest throughout the illustration.
