I like the new design of repairing the extension cord,in the past, you had to struggle with twisting the wires. With the new one, there is no struggle.

I always tin my leads when using this type of connection. Especially on something that might see a high current draw. Stranded wire tends to get loose and then we get heat and failures.

I see your point, I tin a lot of my electrical connections. But I have never tinned my extension cord wires. No good reason why, just haven't. But I have also, never had any wires come loose. Now you have me thinking. I did learn many years ago that soldering causes the wire to be stiff further into the jacket and can cause issues when flexibility is needed, so I tend to solder less than I used to.

@@daveandsonyainmichigan you definitely don't want to tin them too far that the wire loses flexibility outside of the terminal.

@Dean Craig I agree and learned many years ago that the solder works it way up the wires and under the jacket. Interestingly, in my EC8 cable repair video, th-cam.com/video/XkqvawNsGEE/w-d-xo.html
the connector had very little solder in the solder connector (not a crimp), and the wire broke. These connectors are hard to separate. So I soldered them in and the solder went far enough up the jacket so I can grab the wire in the palm of my hand with my pinky and the connector with my index finger and thumb and pull equally to disconnect. I just need to be careful at the point where the wire transitions from stiff to being flexible. This is now the weakest point!
