I've been watching a lot of your reactions for some time now but feel I have to comment here. I'm from the UK and Dave is honestly one of the most gifted artists I've ever seen. You need to react to his track Heart Attack, you won't be disappointed.
My soul hurts when I hear this song, I'm not Black, but this cuts me in a way I can't explain. I can't imagine how people with Black heritage feel this, this is moving, powerful and such an amazing performance. 💜🇦🇺
I remember watching this live. Utterly blown away. Dave is great. The call out at the end of this is TRUTH. As a white 53 year old from North East England, I hear the honesty in your words. Peace.
Dave is an incredible talent. Produces most of his own tracks, plays multiple instruments. Loads you need to check from him but listen to Heart Attack. If you don't know, Jack Merritt who he referenced at the end (which isn't part of the actual track) is an Oxford graduate, very middle class privileged white guy, who was murdered in a terrorist attack in London. He worked with prisoners trying to get them another chance basically, which is where he met Dave's brother who was in jail for murder. When he mentions Grenfell - Grenfell Tower was a resedential tower block that burnt down killing at least 72 people. It burnt down so quickly as the council had covered the building in flammable cladding to make the building look more appealing to the wealthy neighbours. You have to listen to Lowkey - Ghosts of Grenfell, it is incredible. There is SO much talent in the UK. The US can't compete at the moment for content/bars.
I’m white british. I LOVE seeing other’s perspectives on this song. It teaches me a lot. And I’m glad he called out Boris Johnson. He was/is racist. We shouldn’t stand for having our Prime Minister being racist.
Please dive into daves catalogue, he's insane, heart attack, panic attack, survivors guilt, lesley, psycho, environment, and so on so so many insane tracks.
You gotta listen carefully. He said black is offering to help someone cross the road and they walk off. You can't even act with care and compassion without being treated with prejudice
man stop beating round the bush trying to please everyone .. if this track doesn't make you mad & bring a tear to your eye then you've lost it .. "we all struggle but your struggle ain't a struggle like me how can it be when your people gave us the odds that we beat"
Bro I’m white from the Uk but daves spitting facts don’t put the guy down he’s talking facts don’t put his lyrics Of man feel like your shutting the guy down and he talking About a white guy who tried to support blacks
Dude - love you man but some times you need to hear the song, then react. The nuances and profound messages are evident. You went on weird tangents man. You can come back after you hear the full message that was crafted. Much love
Enjoyed this reaction. The guy on the right did most of the talking but the guy on the left said so much more with his facial expressions. Nice, guys! You should check the other Dave live at the Brits with Ghetts, Giggs, Meeks and Fedo.
On your words on leftism. I identify as a British socialist republican. I'm pro state ownership of essential services. I'm pro free healthcare and helping and empowering those who struggle. I'm pro equality. However, I'm not pro victim culture or our monarchy and wealthy established class culture.. Also, it's interesting about the dictionary stuff. The use of the word 'black' to describe people who are essentially many shades of brown is part of the struggle. I used to work with rather eccentric black guy who didn't like to be called black. He asked people to refer to him as melanin. I respect his take on it. The word black has a lot of negative connotation and has for thousands of years. It's associated with the danger of the night and the darkness, and its written into many religious texts in such a way. By referring to people as black and white, we have subconsciously polarised the debate (when in reality, nobody is completely white or completely black). America's history of slavery has bundled together many different cultures and people from whole continents into the boxes. Where-as, in reality, Africa is an absolutely massive continent with many different people who aren't only very culturally different but also look very different too. Slavery in America mixed all these cultures up so that generations down the line, those identities have been lost. I find it quite interesting to watch videos where people take DNA tests and learn their true roots. Many black Americans have multiple African heritages, as well as south Asian, east Asian and white. Of course, it's far too late to change the terminology now, but I personally think that the choice of these words to describe people is and has been a major factor in perpetuating ignorant thought patterns. Fascinating stuff.
You gotta hit the UK rap TH-cam rabbit hole especially Dave and Skepta, giggs, headie one, Fredo, tinnie tempha, Stormzy, central cee, jme, roots manuva, digga d, j Hus, aitch, bugzy malone, Russ millions , arrDee, tion Wayne, ghettos, etc etc
Dave went straight over your head Pegasus. You straight missed 90% of the message - its too nuanced, too deep, too much for u. Sorry man. You missed out.
It's a changed world, my man. There's no longer a place for nuanced discussion surrounding race relations, racism etc. Pegasus wanted this to be a middle of the road message because of the polarisation of online discourse. Dave's message was never about a victim mindset, but systemic racism and the struggles at the heart of that for a young black man in the UK. A hell of a lot changed between this performance and when a lot of reactors came to this performance.
I haven't seen this mentioned in the comments but Dave was 21/22 years old when he performed this live on British TV and at one the biggest music events in the UK
Check out an old Ocean Wisdom music video. Or fire in the booth. And Akala Part 4 fire in the booth. Big up uk. And you’ll like, cause you liked Harry Mack even tho it’s completely different
When it comes to relating to a person or subject we use an experience and how we felt during that experience and or in cases when being told about someone else's. I will never be able to relate to the history but there's culture in that community and our communities are poor and neglected, alot of people grow up in the same community we all living the same at that point regardless of the history but at that point we're in the same moment in time, we going through the same struggles we use to relate. We absorb the culture and its then who we are aswell regardless of skin colour our experiences are relatable. I can't say the same for all communities but I'd like to think there are other people like myself who have grown up in a similar community. Feel free to comment if you think I'm wrong I'm not here to judge other people's thoughts just learn.
@@london9372 You obviously are just jealous bud. I know what I’ve written with my friends and I’m happy that I will be performing a fair amount of songs in rap 7/18 this year!
Dave is goat of UK 🔥 👑 actor, rapper, poet, writer, activist, from the ends he is UK's tuac some people say (Tupac is Tupac of course and levels above) but the things that they do the things that they've been through and the things that they doing for the people and the messages in their songs Dave has been composing music since he was young started rapping at 14
the way that you introduce everyone to Ren with the reactions, you should do the same with this. He also has a very powerful rap called "question time" about politics. I have never not seen an American react to Dave and not say he is incredible.
'Leaving the place you love because there is hate in it' This transcends everything. Edit* the current tory party administration is the people he is speaking about, then it was said Cameron or Teresa May (windrush scandle and go home vans), recently it was Boris Johnson (called women who where hijab letter boxes), but now they have rishy sunak (indian hertiage) which threw a spanner in the workings.
I think you make good points, and - in the US case - they're very much based on a shared understanding of history: the good and the bad. However, it is clear that the push back against recognition-gains for minority communities amounts to the revisionism of unfavorable history. It will be harder to move forward as a country once that basis is systematically eroded.
Your philosophical position of the racial situation in the west is spot on, there are differences between the UK and US, but at the end of the day the British Empire was the root of the similarities between the two countries. I am a white guy from the UK, I was profoundly affected by Dave at the Brits live. By the way the white guy he praises was murdered by a terrorist and he was known for helping others, Dave is a great young man!
The thing is.. Black is not actually a colour.. it's actually the absence of colour but that's mad how the dictionary describes that in 1926 but to be fair . Is that the American dictionary or British dictionary because they always been similar but definitely I never heard that in our dictionary (UK) why is the shade that is black, what does that have to do with human beings? Why they even putting it in there.. anyways point being, even to this day the United States is still the most racist country in the wold
Is there any other song that you believe is better than this song? Dave and about 15 other Rap artists challenge you and think you have no real claim on music artistry, ergo: WHO CARES?!
I've been watching a lot of your reactions for some time now but feel I have to comment here. I'm from the UK and Dave is honestly one of the most gifted artists I've ever seen. You need to react to his track Heart Attack, you won't be disappointed.
