Thoroughly enjoyed that!! Cheers fellas, can't imagine how much time and effort went into making that - glad I could make your lives somewhat easier too! 😂
What a year for rugby, and we're not just talking about when Squidge came on the pod... Brilliant video Robbie & Will, thanks for all you do for the game we love so much!
Thank you Squidge. You and your brother make us all proud and I hate to put this on you but you may be the greatest representative of Rugby Values the game has right now... The Antoine Dupont of Rugby Values even
can't believe the number 1 moment completely eluded me. Thank you for bringing it to my attention Squidge. You always bring something extra to your videos
I don't know if there is much to say but thank you. This was perfect and now I'm a mess. I don't know how you do it, but the passion in your voice, the choice of your subjects, the total, absolutely complete inclusion of ALL that is rugby and showcasing it to us, celebrating it with us... Mate, just.... just perfect.... I love this sport, I love its supporters, its community and I love you guys. I hope you have a nice holiday with family and friends. And I can't wait to follow another wonderful year of rugby with you. Thank you.
The most insane thing about Dupont is not that he might be the GOAT (or at least deserves to be in the list of GOATs), or that he's one world cup away from winning literally everything a French rugby player could win, or that he's the spearhead of the generation that finally put an end to French rugby's dark era, or that he's the first ever to have been the first player of the year in both 7s and 15s, no, there's something even more insane than that. Look at any interview, literally any interview, and you'll see that, even with all of that, the guy is still a very humble, pretty shy, normal human being. He doesn't look like anything has changed since the days he was just a teen learning to be a farmer. He went to an NFL team's training center recently, and he looks so out of place in the middle of giant football stars, just being a random guy there. I don't think I've ever seen someone who doesn't feel like a Dupont-level genius than Dupont himself, I wouldn't be surprised if at the end of his career he just went to do a completely normal job somewhere random just because he wants to.
Even if Dupont is used by World Rugby as a marketing tool, he doesn't really care about the fame and rizz. He's very focused on his rugby, his roots and his family. He's already preparing his post-rugby. With his brother, he's developing the family black pigs business (launched by his father, dead just before the WC 2023) mixed with a bed&breakfast concept in France southwest. In fact, it's good times for Rugby to have Maher as a social media star to speak about Womens Rugby, Dupont as a rugby humble icon, and Kolisi as a symbol of social inclusion in Rugby.
One thing about Rugby is it's a team game without the people around you, you are nothing. Plus, your teammates won't let your head get too big. They'll take the piss and tell you to get the beers in..!! 🍻🍻🍻 💚☘️🇮🇪 🇫🇷 💙🤍❤️
@@ashg9023Agreed. The whole French team is still crying about their QF loss to the point where certain players outright refuse to talk to South Africans 😂. Meanwhile, the ABs, who lost the final, say they accept the loss and moved on forever ago.
Squidge, thank you for what you do in supporting and validating a broad, diverse group of people and teams. Your work in highlighting their important moments will go a long way to growing the sport but it's of value and importance on a human level as well.
Unreal stuff squidge, as before, I expect I'll watch this multiple more times over the year. It's genuinely such great content. Love how well you've described Ilona Mahers phenomenal impact this year. Her personality has done more for world rugby than any union planned event or promotion put together in terms of spreading the game to a wider audience and warrants the top spot.
Excellent compilation! Was a superb year for quality & exciting rugby. Thanks for capturing the wide scope of rugby & the amazing growth in the women's game. Respect from South Africa
At 29:10, answering to other players saying that he's not gonna make it, Antoine replies that he can't hear them anymore (because he silenced them with his talent).
that champions cup final was not only my first live club rugby game but also my first live rugby game being a football fan (sorry) all my life, so nice to know i started at a high point. thanks squidge for getting me properly into the game 5 years ago.
Every sports broadcaster needs to watch this, just to see what real passion and love for the game looks like. Just superb Squidge (and Squidge bro) Superb.
Val Pizzo of the Baltimore Flamingos was a HUGE if not the most influential person to get the Trans Match at the Bingham cup. The Bingham cup organizers had to see a petition by a bunch of teams to have the match at all. Love the Bingham organizers not a slam to them; but I want my friend to get recognized for making a this happen. He also organized the first all trans match in the world the year prior at a IGR tournament. Lovely to see Squidge Rugby recognizing this.
What a great Christmas present. Thanks so much for all your work on this and the other videos. It's been fundamental in my turning from casual 6N-only fan to avid watch-as-many-games as I can a week. I do want to add one moment that, unless I missed it, you forgot: the Portugal Poland game where the Polish player who didn't take his chance to stepstep José Lima (iirc) and instead just punched him in the face. My first live Portugal match did not disappoint though it delivered in a way I definitely didn't expect
Merry Christmas to you Squidge - I have been appreciating your videos for so long it feels like I know you. Carry on with the awesome work you have been doing.
Springbok fan here. It's not my team or their recent successes that make rugby great, it's the people who cry they meet their idol, the girl who cries when someone follows her on Instagram, the trans community saying sod it and creating their own league, the teams who have never scored a try in their lives until now and celebrate like they've just won the Olympics... It's the people in and around the sport that make it great and that is why we come back again and again. Thank you for reinforcing that Squidge! See you next year.
Brilliant. Even thinking about how much work went into that makes me want to sleep for a day. Superb stuff and such a huge contribution to the profile and accessibility of the wonderful game we love.
Such a wonderful great video Thanks so much for all you work Sad there's no Damian Penaud singing this year but still. Thanks for putting Champions cup Dupont above Olympics Antoine And thanks most of all for putting Maher at her deserved spot !!! Happy holidays to both of you
I don’t get how this channel has under 300 thousand subs?? To me it’s the best rugby analyst channel out here and the amount of work they do is insane.
This may be included under the broad "China women's 7s" category, but the overtime win they had against Britain in the Olympics was electrifying. GB passing the ball into touch when they meant to kick, resulting in a turnover, several intense phases of play for China to get the game winning try was a highlight for me on the same level as the USA's last minute try against Australia for bronze. I just wish I could find the whole match on TH-cam.
My top rugby moment was my local club winning two cups with my age group side playing in our first senior season helping in the efforts and playing a key role throughout the entire season
A) Cracking video 10/10 B) Your number 1 is spot on. When Ilona first blew up in the Olympics I was skeptical of what impact she would have on the game because I'm a boring 30 year old bloke who already had their head stuffed into the world of rugby and blinkered to her draw of non rugby people. Beyond my wife talking about her, I though she would have no lasting impact. I'm glad I was wrong. I found out she had signed for Bristol by getting a text from my wife that she was now a Bristol Bears fan,10 years I've tried to get her to follow club rugby and support Exeter :(. The next text I got was that my Wife had bought tickets to her 1st, and 2nd eligible games, £12, bargin. After going to Ashton Gate last weekend, and seeing the crowd, passion, support and optimism she has breathed into the game I am blown away. She is the perfect person to reach out and grown the game from the stuffy old boys club it has become. God I hope World Rugby don't fumble this opportunity.
On Cian Healy, always worth remembering that he's one of the few players to have played all three front row positions at international level (albeit, his time at hooker was injury enforced and JvdF did the throwing), something more or less unheard of since the increase to 23 player squads.
Saturday afternoons, my dad was watching Jean Pierre Rive and the FrenchXV battling in the 5 nations and I was there, I guess about 11 or 12. So I watched close to 50 5/6 nations?? gee.
Thoroughly enjoyed that!! Cheers fellas, can't imagine how much time and effort went into making that - glad I could make your lives somewhat easier too! 😂
Ah thank you! Proud of how this came together, and always so appreciative of you and your work!
please try talking slower for us to understand Squidge 😂🎉
@@Kashewz7693theres a button for that thankfully for you
I can't believe you chose moment 163 over 164. Disgusting bias.
163 is a prime number, knowing squidge through his channel, it could have been pivotal in the decision
😂
What a year for rugby, and we're not just talking about when Squidge came on the pod... Brilliant video Robbie & Will, thanks for all you do for the game we love so much!

Good point. Difficult to argue with that. Someone will.

RRRRRRUUUUUGGGBBBYY!!!
34:45 when Raynal runs quicker than one of the players and shouts "I have win". Adorable
Incredible work dudes. A literal feature length film.

5:44 “when he misses we still play” 🤣🤣. Fantastic words of inspiration by your captain
What a summation and what a great homage in landing on number one. Rugby wins, and anyone furthering the sport deserves that recognition.
Amazing roundup. I truly appreciate the universal all-encompasing perspective you bring to rugby. You are a true rugby treasure.
Thoroughly enjoyed reliving all these moments. Thanks for the effort Squidge, looking forward to next year.
I was trying to count the number of times you mentioned "Antoine Dupont" for whatever reason.😂 😂 😂 😂
He had to find a new meme after Jonathan SeXmas hung up the boots

Losing to the bottom side in the league is not losing "any game".

Wow amazing, soooo much information I would not èven have guessed in a million years. The choice for number 1 was absolutely incredible. Well done 👏
Got to top 20 and was scratching my head how you hadn't included that Portuguese try vs Rumania. Shoulda known better. Great work again Owens.
