    I am gearing up to repair the front steps on my 100 year-old house. They are stone with bricks risers, and were built by my grandfather so I want to save/ restore as much as possible. I've been trying for 2 years to find someone in the area to do the work or help me, but no luck so far. So looks like I'll be learning haha wish me luck!

    Brother.... What is there to say.... Fine work from a fine man who freely shares a MASTER MASON'S KNOWLEDGE. Your steps look GREAT. Your advice to take you "CUSTOMER" with you to select the product to be used may fall on deaf ears if any tradesmen even care to listen, as most think they know it ALL....

    Hello sir Mike...
    Well-done .
    With this subject I would
    like to ask about the stander height of such steps.which height of step
    can be the better?
    Much appreciation...

      The maximum height of a step is set by the local building code. This is also called the riser height. It used to be pretty standard for masonry step to have a rise of 8” per step. Current code in my area calls for a rise of not more than 7.5” per step with no variances of more than 0.25”.

      Hi Sadeem, yes it's determined by local building code, but you can't ever get a straight answer from these inspectors, thanks Mike

    great idea using God made materials as foundation for the man-made. The slate will outlast the house.

    I’m just curious to know if the brick part of the steps could have been concrete over

      Hi Shelley, it was too far gone, but if it was just worn on the outside I could have stuccoed it, thanks Mike

    How come the colored mortar I like your father's garden mud trick. Was it because that is what you had or customer wanted 🤔.

    Wish I could send you a few seconds of video that I took in Ephesus right behind a notable statue. Several Italians are reconstructing a 2-4k years old wall.

    Mike show us the difference between concrete block and cinder blocks? Why didn't you wet the stairs? What is the cost of a job like this? I would think over 1000 dollars?

    • @MikeHaduck
      @MikeHaduck  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Pete, cinder blocks were made from coal cinders from the powerplants, they don't make them anymore, they didn't hold up well, I probably did wet the bottom but didn't film it, thanks Mike
