What did he think was gonna happen? He risked Takemichi's life for his own purposes and Takemichi is probably one of the highest members when it comes to being in Mikey's favor. He endangered Mikey's favorite toy, pretty easy to understand what was gonna happen.
He and Hanma tied up Chifuyu, ensuring that Takemichi and Hakkai would be facing Taiju alone. And that’s not even counting the whole mess with giving Yuzuha a knife.
