If you watch Larry Legend make a pass, watch carefully. He threads the needle through impossibly small openings to stationary targets, targets moving teammates to where they are going to be, and is unafraid to do full court passes leading a running player over his head and into his arms. Even closer observation shows he put spin on the ball to go around the opponent and connect with his teammates. His full court pass was high and fast but dropped like a baseball sinker into the teammates arms. He made these spectacular passes instantaneously seemingly without thought. Like a computer calling up a play and he did this day after day. If you tried to stop him he automatically had a solution and bam there it was. Larry was immensely fun to watch. Thanks for the memories!!

Larry just saw the game as easy and was amused that people thought it was hard to bounce a ball and make it go in a hoop he thought that was comical, but he played along ,
Kobe Bryant once said he couldn't understand Bird's success because "he looks fuckin' slow to me." Notwithstanding his court IQ, confidence, work ethic, and mastery of psychological warfare, Bird understood that while speed beats power, timing beats speed. Like Sugar Ray Robinson, he could outrythm his opponents. #legend
I know Larry got upset multiple times when they'd put another white guy on him. I seem to remember there was a short clip I saw where Jordan was guarding him and his coach pulled him out of the game. And Larry was visibly upset. He didn't want them to take Jordan out of the game. Who would have that kind of reaction! LOL But I can't find that clip and don't remember what game it was.
He destroyed guys and told them beforehand it was going to happen and told them how it would happen, and then didn't celebrate when it happened because it was simply going to happen anyway. The John Wayne of basketball.
Also, it’s always seemed stupid to me saying any specific color can’t play a sport. I’m 61 years old and I’ve seen all colors do it: Jerry West, Pistol Pete, Kevin McHale, Bob Cousy, John Havlicek, Etc...One thing I’ve always loved is sports teaches you color doesn’t matter. I’m white and my all-time fave player is Walt Frazier. Why? Because he was great and I loved how he played. Smart, clutch, great defense. Anyway, Bird is the best for me.
Larry wasn’t fast, but he was quick and he was smart. He could do everything, and he made his teammates better. It was glorious watching his entire career, and he was the best all-around player I’ve ever seen.

I’m taking Bird to start a team …….. no disrespect to Magic ! Both have the highest winning percentage as players in the history of the NBA , still to this day ! And both saved the NBA ! …….. it’s just Bird was better !
@@Anomaly188 you can move one to the forward position… Magic played five different positions ! You don’t think Wilt or Kareem could easily play forward ? ….. Great top 5 , if you ask me !
@@Anomaly188 you wouldn't have to play Kareem as a center, the Sky Hook might not be the most exciting shot, but he could hit it from almost anywhere. I am still thinking they would dominate against anyone.
I prefer Bird, mainly because he was so fun to watch. He had a multitude of ways he could score, pass, rebound, and just plain hurt you. I think Magic was a somewhat better floor leader as a guard, but he wasn't exciting for me to watch. Magic, despite the facade of "showtime", was really a ball-controlling machine. Does that make him better than Bird? Or does Bird's extraordinary creativity make him better? I don't know, and they're so close, talent and skills, I doubt anyone can say. I just know I enjoyed watching Bird more. Ditto for Kareem - an incredible player I found somewhat boring to watch. I loved the athletic dynamism of Wilt or Julius and Michael. To me, Dr. J was perhaps the most enjoyable person for me to watch. You just never knew what would happen, but when it did it was almost always spectacular. My God, that man could fly and dunk over ANYONE.
I like the way you say, if you're building a team. Yeah this is why you gotta consider Bird And Magic with with MJ. If you're building a team, they got some things MJ doesn't - from a team perspective. This is exactly why I say they are all kinds tier1... I don't guess MJ is a great teammate nor the leader Magic and Bird were. ... So depending on criteria and weight of criteria.... 🤔
I think Bird today is very under rated and disrespected because of the "ring count syndrome" we live in today. When Bird played and after he retired ( except for his last few years during injury) he was consistently seen as the better player than Magic. I have seen Magic climb in the "goat" debate ( sometimes even passing Kareem which is a travesty IMO) and seen Bird fall down in the "goat" debate and the only possible explanation is the ring count. Bird was the more complete and better player and played in a much tougher Eastern conference and did not have the benefit of playing with Kareem or with the #1 picks such as Worthy, Bob McAdoo, Michael Thompson, or a DPOY award winner in Cooper. Bird was not a good defender late in his career, but people forget he was before his back issues. Bird led the league in defensive win shares 4 times and was 7 times in the top 5 in DWS. Bird in 1983 finished tied for 3rd place for the DPOY award. Yes McHale was a better defender than Bird but Pat Riley had a great observation on how Bird could and did disrupt the other team's offense. Bird could read and pick up on the other teams offensive sets and plays and interfere with the passing lanes and flow of the other team. He often created problems that led to hurried and last second shots to beat the 24 second clock. Bird's blocks per game and steals per game are at the same level of Lebron James. For those who sleep on Bird or question his defense here is a link to a photo from the November 9th issue from 1981 from SI on page 84 of Bird blocking Kareem's skyhook! vault.si.com/vault/1981/11/09/70982#&gid=ci0258c132a001278a&pid=70982---102---image

#legend
Kobe a bit of a snob
I know Larry got upset multiple times when they'd put another white guy on him. I seem to remember there was a short clip I saw where Jordan was guarding him and his coach pulled him out of the game. And Larry was visibly upset. He didn't want them to take Jordan out of the game. Who would have that kind of reaction! LOL But I can't find that clip and don't remember what game it was.
Yeah and the coach put Ben poquete on Larry Legend and he torched him. He was torching Jordan too
He's probably my favorite player now, but back in the day I hated him. He was always beating up on my beloved Pistons! :P Thanks for the reaction! :)
He destroyed guys and told them beforehand it was going to happen and told them how it would happen, and then didn't celebrate when it happened because it was simply going to happen anyway. The John Wayne of basketball.
Facts!
Nobody talks about how short their shorts were woo
Dude,Dr.J will be 73yrs old in 4 months!
That’s crazy
@@KQuLonnie He probably can still ball a little bit. He had mad skills in his day!
I bet I bet he be busting his grandkid ass
Also, it’s always seemed stupid to me saying any specific color can’t play a sport. I’m 61 years old and I’ve seen all colors do it: Jerry West, Pistol Pete, Kevin McHale, Bob Cousy, John Havlicek, Etc...One thing I’ve always loved is sports teaches you color doesn’t matter. I’m white and my all-time fave player is Walt Frazier. Why? Because he was great and I loved how he played. Smart, clutch, great defense. Anyway, Bird is the best for me.
Larry Bird and Superman had a fight. The loser had to wear their underwear on the outside.
Larry wasn’t fast, but he was quick and he was smart. He could do everything, and he made his teammates better. It was glorious watching his entire career, and he was the best all-around player I’ve ever seen.
I just watch 2 NBA games tonight for the first time in YEARS. The has changed..its gotten soft I watch fouls being called that bk in the day wouldn't have..there was no excitement in the game..guess the 80's ruined me for basketball today..
Facts!
I’m taking Bird to start a team
…….. no disrespect to Magic !
Both have the highest winning
percentage as players in the
history of the NBA , still to this
day ! And both saved the NBA !
…….. it’s just Bird was better !
M. J., Bird, Magic, Wilt, and Kareem. There's your Starting 5.
@@stevenroetzel4470 You have 2 centers and only one forward. Might want to rethink that lineup.
@@Anomaly188 you can
move one to the forward
position… Magic played
five different positions !
You don’t think Wilt or
Kareem could easily play
forward ? ….. Great top 5 ,
if you ask me !
@@Anomaly188 you wouldn't have to play Kareem as a center, the Sky Hook might not be the most exciting shot, but he could hit it from almost anywhere. I am still thinking they would dominate against anyone.
It's crazy the amount of consistently made daily reactions and videos there on YT for Larry and Eminem😂
Dr. Jay is 73 yrs. That's even crazier that he looks younger
You’re talking facts! There’s only one Larry Legend!
Dominic Wilkens said it best in that talented athletes will give you oohs and ahhhs but great basket ball players will win games. Larry Bird was a great basket ball player.
Nice Job!
The LEDGEND 🐐 GOAT Larry Joe Bird basketball genius and also whipping that Jordan azz 6-0 & 23-11 so again Jordan whoo?
I though the teammates were extraordinary they were always right there when larry was passing without even looking through the legs of players passed
Three players on the other team. They would fall down when Larry tricked them he made weird shots almost every shot I loved him as a kid but now I would rather watch Celtics then then modern ball now
5:40 Black players saved the NBA and not necessarily just because of athleticism. Much like the black impact on jazz and blues it became a joyous celebration of talent. We are all the better for it.
He also had his dad commit suicide b4 he made the NBA so they'd get his pension. They were dirt poor. If only his dad waited a few years & saw how the NBA was profitable...
Awesome video. Question for ya. Bron or Bird…In their prime for a title run?
Larry lebron could do it but I doubt he can get by birds willingness to win
Dude! No question about definitely Bird!
You think they said he was just wearing white face? That’s hilarious. Dipped in powder
I WAS and still IS that black dude Bro and it's a good thing I CAN fight because black people was not trying to hear Bird was better than Magic when it was OBVIOUS...
Out of 4,400 or so players in NBA history, there's only one player that retired with a career stat line of 20ppg/10rpg/5apg: Larry Bird
"White chocolate", "black dude dipped in white powder". Extremely racist comments.
People forget that Larry was clear. He never subscribed to the “Great White Hope” hype.
To judge who was better MJ or Larry Bird. MJ never won against Larry. MJ didn’t win a championship until Larry retired!
Dr. J has always been gorgeous.
Larry Bird absolutely one of the very best
He tryly has the best nba content
Good stuff.
I hated Larry Bird. Had he been with the Lakers, maybe I''d have had a different opinion. He broke my heart so many times. One All Star game, my Mom & I were watching, (me being the sports expert) I said "Bird is overrated Mom." He literally took over the game. My Mom says, "I don't know son, he's looking pretty good to me." LMAO Now that he's retired I'll give him his due, he was a great player.
It's always hard to appreciate ANY player while he's busy making his living as a janitor by wiping the floor with your team's defence 😏
@@consciousbeing1188 We always called Dirk Novitsky (sp?) The Janitor. Due to his constant flopping. His uniform kept the court clean, hence "The Janitor" (my daughter gave him that name, when Miami won their 1st Championship, way back when.🤣
@@bluesingmusic3443 😂😂😂
As far as the white guy on Bird. Bobby Jones used to give Bird hell on defense. And there's a video out there where Bobby Jones soars over everyone and dunks on Birds head.
birdman is one of just a few that the current nba standards would make better...mj and magic in on that as well but it leaves out the goat convo for the bigs
Bill Russel was the Greatest player of ALL time .
Would I draft Larry over Magic? yes.
But would I murder the opposition to draft them both? Probably.
