  • This is the full length video of series 169 to 173. Learn the steps drawing a Celtic Wolf. This design is from the 6-7th century Pictish 'Wolf Stone'. It is also known as the 'Ardross Wolfstone' & 'The Stittenham Wolf'. If you are ever in the Inverness Museum in Scotland UK do try to view it.
The artist who made it was able to convey movement and expression in 2 dimensions. Quite a skill for the time! In the video Jason Bellchamber will show you how to make a grid of the original photo to then transpose it to your own grid on another piece of paper. Using pencil and then ink to finish the design. Keep in mind the subtlety of expression comes with persistence, so practice practice practice!
Download the photo of the artefact to print out here. It is free. www.bellchamber...
You will also need a black pigment liner 0.3 or 0.5mm, a hard pencil 2h and a straight edge ruler.
The wolf may be considered a symbol of the family. There are always an alpha couple which control a wolf pack, not just an alpha male! The alpha male works at the front and is large and strong, the alpha female is the mother wolf and she is always at the back of the group making sure everyone is in line! Together they are a family unit. Different wolf packs may hunt cooperatively for big prey.
