    A coworkers mother painted rocks and coworker "discreetly" put them on our desks at work. She placed the best rock on my desk that has a flower with the word " WELCOME " on it. I flipped the rock over and it had a bible verse. It touched my heart completely, I really enjoy having this rock on my desk as a paper weight! Looking for an idea for my son to give his 2nd grade teacher as school is ending

    I just saw a post on someone picking up a painted rock and thought what a way to enjoy painting and making someone’s day. I must have been living under a rock because I did not know how people leave them around as gifts to others they do not know. Thank you for a starting place.

      @@RockPainting101 The only time I did something similar was at the school I taught at. Teachers always need a bit of motivation. We were given a rock that had the base color painted on it and a name. We wrote a motivating saying or Picture on it. We snuck it to the teacher. We also dropped them little gifts as the year went on like a Secret pal.

    I'm a nanny for a 2 year old and her 7 years old half brother when he visits for the summer. I've wanted to paint rocks with them all summer, finally did it now that the older kids are back in school. 2 days ago, we collected our rocks on a walk. Afterwards, I had the kids scrub them, and line them up like little soldiers to dry. Today is painting day! I'm more excited than they are only because I know what we're doing, they've forgotten. lol

      Wonderful! welcome to the hobby! There are a few options to get stones. Landscape supply shops will sometimes let you buy a bucket full. Home Depot/Lowes sometimes have bags (make sure there is no wax on them). Hobby Lobby has some in their "mosaic" department. They are nice flat slices. Then you can always order online. Amazon has quite a few options amzn.to/2ZKiOYj or this Etsy shop has some really nice ones too - tidd.ly/3AfE7Tg

    • @RockPainting101

    Hi there!
    Thanks for posting. Two questions.
    1. I'm thinking of using paint pens for a program. Will the rocks mess up the paint pens if multiple kids use them several times over? Or will they be fine?
    2. Do the rocks need to have a sealer? Or do you think they would be ✨okay✨ without?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Over time it does wear down the tips a bit so they wont be as pointed, but they still work. With the 3M & 5M Posca paint pens you can actually take the tips out and flip them over to get a fresh tip again. As far as sealing, if they are just taking them home to keep them if you use a nice pen like Posca they will last a long time without sealer. For outdoors I suggest to use a sealer because they can fade in the sun over time.

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sharpies have a tendency to bleed when you seal them. If that is all you have just make sure you do a VERY light first coat of spray sealer. Just a mist. Maybe even twice. Then follow up with a thicker coat. If you plant to paint a lot of rocks you can invest in some paint pens (even just black for writing) Let me know if you want any recommendations :)

      I like an extra fine tip paint pen for writing I have Posca and Artistro brand and am happy with both. I have used quite a few different sprays over the years. Mainly just search for one that is non-yellowing AND weather resistant. I have had no success in painting rocks so they look good. The pock marks blur everything. Is here a base coat that will take the tiny dips out and make it smooth for painting?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know there are those that use wood putty to fill in bumps on their rocks and then sand them down. I just opt for getting smoother rocks myself :) River rocks are usually a good option from local landscaping supply shops.

    Can you paint acrylic over enamel spray paint base coat????

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You want to have a matte finish to paint on top. Chalk paint works too.

    Can i buff my rocks after painted?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could rub off the paint. Maybe once it is sealed you can. Why would you want to buff it? To get a shine? If that is the case you can get a gloss clear coat to add on top to achieve that look :)

    Can you tell me what the difference is between resin and acrylic sealant?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Resin is thicker and you have to mix it before you use it. We have more information about it in this post. rockpainting101.com/resin-painted-rocks/ There are lot of spray on and even brush on sealers you can use as well.

    I found the rocks to be so bumpy I couldn't even draw a straight line. I have no idea how people make such integrate designs. Taping it off didn't work nor did painting a base coat make a difference. How do you prep so that I can do a good drawing on them?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're dealing with really bumpy rocks then you will want to go with pour painting or something more abstract. Some people will use a putty to fill the stones, but you could just try to find better rocks to start with! River rocks from landscaping companies are very affordable and there are options online for ordering too.

      Yes! Just watch out for the ones with the waxy coating. Those are no good. Happy Painting!!

    I bought the first set of galaxy rocks painting. I'm a beginner with paint trying different ways to create art. My question is when your done painting Can you wash off the rock and reuse it again instead of buying another set. What kind of chemical can you use to remove piant on the rock, Would regular dish soap work? 🥰

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You may have better luck just painting over the previous design. You can try soaking it if you never sealed it. If it water based (acrylic paint) it may come loose.

      You can honestly use just about any medium for rock painting. As long as you seal it before placing outdoors :)
