Indigo is one of my favorite and most strategic colors from Daniel Smith. Mixed with cobalt turquoise and nickel azo yellow, you can get a huge array of greens with beautiful granulation. Love the swatches, thank you!
Congratulations to your friend Paul. I have many of these colors, I will have to put this palette together and try it. If you mix ultramarine and transparent pyrrol orange on the palette, you can get an amazing dark neutral black!
I love the description of the purpose of the dot card, about attraction and tension. I’ll have to check out his Instagram. I’ve always been shy about experimenting with mixing.
Hello Teoh! Thanks for this colour swatching video! May I ask if there is anywhere that still sells your Daniel Smith Dot Cards? I didn't know that you had a collection (I think I came across your channel too late) but if it's available anywhere, I would like to get it as a collector's item! 😊🙏 Also, would love to see the interview too! Thanks Teoh! 😁
Hi Teoh! I actually got recently the High Chroma set from QoR and it happens that It includes that transparent pyrrol orange and thanks to you now I know what to do with such a scandalous vibrant orange ;) It can be too much if you don't know how to mute it a little bit ;) I also like the granulation you get adding PB 36 to make greens :D Beautiful mixes, as always. Your way of mixing is the best for me. Thanks a lot! Take care. Greetings from Gran Canaria.
I LOVE that set, but I wish it included a phthalo turquoise instead of the cobalt teal so you can mix a black. The set is absolutely perfect otherwise.
I can't say I have tried Daniel Smith other than recent 66 dot card but I love White nights! Waiting for your opinion on them. They are super versatile and colour mixes are lovely and vibrant!
Oh my, a new limited color palette idea to play with! Bonus that I have all but three of the colors already and one of the three I’ve been looking for an excuse to buy. Realistically? I have paints from other brands that can sub for the three easily (Cobalt blue violet, indigo, and transp brown oxide would probably swap WN Smelt, M. Graham transp red iron oxide or QoR brown iron oxide, and M. Graham Anthraquinone Blue). Love the mixes with the Transp Pyrrol Orange! Not usually something I’d think about adding to a limited palette and would normally include a cool yellow to get some really vibrant greens, but it does let you skip/replace a warm red. So. Many. Ideas. Not enough hours in the day!
Hi Teoh! This is the wrong place to ask this question but this was your recent video so I couldn't resist. I'm an illustrator from India who wants to invest in a scanner for scanning my traditional drawing in gouache/watercolor. My options are epson v39 vs canon lide 300. These are the only ones available in India within my budget. Which one do you recommend? Epson is a lil more expensive than the canon one but I'll get the one you recommend! Thanks!!! :D
I have to pay for the dot cards that I get from Daniel Smith. I have a tube of Cerulean Blue, Chromium that I have hardly used after the first time I tested it. I think it's a weak color and I have to used so much of it to get the same effect from Fr. Ultramarine. But, that's just me. This color also came in my Schminke Horodam travel set that I rarely use since I got my Qor set. Having said that I have just about used up the Cerulean blue Chromium; because, I use it mostly for skies. Since it is a weak color, I use a lot more of it. When it is completely gone, I will just replace it with Fr. Ultramarine. One thing I would like to know is whether there is a reason that Paul did not include Pthalo blue or some other cool blue in his set.
The standard dot cards from Daniel Smith are those meant for sale. The one I have is just sample for giveaway. The colours in this set are not all the colours Paul has in his main palette.
This video was such great timing! I just went through Paul's set from DS and put together another palette. It so closely matched my main palette though! 🤣 Guess I know my favorite pigments now. I'm looking forward to your other dot card swatches and thoughts! (Edited for spelling)
This dog card is totally different to the Paul Wang dot card I have! Which has 17 colours!.....including Aussie Red Gold, Moonglow, Cobalt Teal Blue, Blue Apatite Genuine, Lunar Earth, Green Apatite Genuine, Jadeite and Van Dyck Brown
Daniel Smith so cheap! Not enough paint on any of their dot cards to mix or "paint" anything. Glad you already had tubes to show us the mixes you cold make. Beautiful paint but I don't like how stingy they are.
@@Foghorn-tr1je I'm glad he got them free as he said no one can actually do any mixing from them as they don't include enough paint. Don't get me wrong I love the paint the company is just unbelievably tight about dot cards. They should rename them "speck" cards or "smidge" card or something ;)
Would love you to interview Paul re his favourites mixes from this selection

Thank you for swatching out these colors, and mixing them as well. Looking forward to future videos on the other dot cards.
This is amazing. Your mixes always take my breath away! Greetings from Florence, Italy✨
Don't they?? I also love Teoh's mixes!!
I am very interested to hear what Paul has to say! Can't wait!❤️
Lovely demonstration. Thank you!
Thank you! I just bought the set, this will help me greatly.

I’ve used transparent pyrrol orange as my warm red...it’s so versatile on a small palette!
Looking forward to your interview and hearing more about the cobalt blue violet. Thanks Teoh.
Can you please tell us what colors you chose for your daniel smith dot card?

Oh no, I fell in love with cerulean all of a sudden. I can’t afford any more paints :_)
Also, I already have 6 blues on my palette xd
I bought the DS blues set in that awful plastic palette and the cerulean is my favorite!!!
Great video!!! I am wondering what brush you used to do your mixes?
Silver Black Velvet

Paul has two sets out right now.

Mix of cerulean blue chromium and pyrrol orange looks like Donald Trump xD Nice mixes, btw, thank you.

It’s a free dot card
I would gladly try it for free. They sell big dot cards that have generous size.
