I was at their Seventeen Seconds show at The George Square Students tiny Amphitheatre in Edinburgh on the 20.06.80 and they were 4 and extremely close! Later i worked on a few of their big tours and ill always remember all Robert Smiths Guitars (he toured with about 15 guitars and his White Falcon had just been renovated / the gtar tech loved his job / they were all absolutely immaculate! So as uje I hustled him for a whole load of strings & plectrums!!!!! I stopped with The Cure after Seventeen Seconds. He'd gotten his world across by then. Respect Bob! 😉
I had a chat with Robert Smith in the "Gay Traitor" downstairs bar of the Hacienda - had the cheek to tell him Joy Division was the best band in the world but the Cure were a close second !
@@conde_bathory It was a very long time ago - I don't really remember him saying anything about my comment - we chatted for a while and I do remember saying to him that I bet he hated people like me bugging him while he was out having a drink - he said no not at all as people usually stand off ? I'd had a few beers so Dutch courage etc. He was a really nice guy to talk to and put me and my friend on the guest list for the following night at a Souxsie and the Banshees gig at the Apollo! He was standing in for their guitarist who was sick at the time. One of my great memories from working at the Hacienda.
@@conde_bathory It was indeed a great gesture from Robert - I never got to see Joy Division sadly but seen New Order in the early days and have become a friend of Hooky - he DJ'd my 60th Birthday last year which was cool 😎

Doesn't surprise me they liked this song in particular because it sounded more poppy which is what The Cure leaned towards later on.
