For whatever reason this past couple of weeks I have been watching LOTRO videos one after the other. I have never played LOTRO, knew about it, love the franchise, but was always playing WoW or other games.
From what I've seen I can absolutely see the charm in the game. There is something exciting about seeing how loved the game is, feeling like it's right up your alley, and the potential to step into that...for the very first time.
I have just gotten to the point where I installed the game yesterday, made an account, then played around with character creation...and getting past the dated graphics, quite liked the general appearance of characters. (Maybe a little nostalgia from EverQuest days)
This video hit on a lot of my thoughts:
    - How dated are the graphics/animations/UI and will that get to me?
    - Will this game even be around long enough for me to invest time into?
    - Are there enough people still playing, is there a solid community?
    - Am I too accustomed to modern MMO's to go back to long travel sessions, grindy crafting, reading walls of text, etc?
    - Do I want to fork over the subscription fee right way to play on the new (less laggy, less information overload) servers?
    - Is there a decent Content Creator presence?
    - Does it have the appeal to pull me out of my current games? (Hard for me to focus on other games when playing MMO's)
...as well as I'm more or less stuck in the research phase trying to decide:
    - What race/class do I want to play?
    - What server or community is the most appealing and will work the best for me?
    - Tips and Tricks to starting out
    - What armor sets/cosmetics can I shoot for short and long term?
    - What difficulty is recommended for MMO veterans, but a new LOTRO player?
    - What does LOTRO offer overall? (Solo aspect, Group aspect, Housing, Mounts, Crafting, etc..)
Either way I can definitely feel the pull, and this was really just a long winded way to say thanks for your vids and insight as I explore this game. They along with several other TH-camrs have instrumental on my decision to maybe give this a real shot...also, appreciate your passion for the game.

I agree wholeheartedly. I used to play LOTRO a lot back in the day, got on board a little later than the original players, but I got caught up right when Isengard dropped. I love LOTR so much, I love LOTRO as well, its so nostalgic for me, its a crime that there aren't more lore accurate games out there, or just LOTRO overall. Amazon claims to be working on an MMO, but judging by the way their show is going, I seriously doubt they'll deliver at all. I think I've finally hit the point where LOTRO is a little too old for me to commit to. I've been trying to come back, but the mechanics are just too outdated, too much old school kill counting, looting, and long travel over inanimate landscapes. I've been a bit spoiled by GW2, where the world feels alive, the expansion regions each have an overarching event, with unique currency to grind and place to spend it in. Class builds are so diverse and interesting. LOTRO just doesn't hold up anymore. Additionally, the community has grown so small at this point, so much so that they're mostly all in the premium servers, I got on a non-premium the other day, Arkenstone for those who know, and its completely dead. I think it was a bad idea to lock away your sense of community, and low lag, behind a monthly pay wall, when the game is supposed to be free to play. Additionally, the low lag feature in the premium servers isn't even a feature in other mmo's, its just the way mmo's should be, so why do I have to pay for it? Lastly, I asked myself the other day, would I play LOTRO if it wasn't LOTR, definitely not, and that was the nail in the coffin for me. The only reason why I play LOTRO, is because it fulfills that longing to experience LOTR, I went and played Lego LOTR because I was so desperate for the experience. I play the War of The Rings board game with a friend of mine as well to scratch the itch, I LOVE LOTR! lol So I'm not trying to be a hater here, but the game, despite my love for Tolkien's work, just doesn't hold up anymore. I might consider coming back if the premium servers were F2P, but I don't want to pay $15 just to see if its worth it, and to be given features that most mmo's have by default.

@@nexeus7302 Appreciate it, lot of good insight and tips. Wasn't saying the game had EQ graphics (it's clearly better) just that the character creation screen reminded me of EQ.

fully agree on the part about server feeling alive, community being nice, helpful and kind
    but the lag...
was ok for the first week, but since then it has been a constant companion on Mordor, no matter where I go
    in an instance? lag
    ride around landscape? lag
try to access my vault? only takes a minute for my items to appear in my bag
and when a Nazgul spawns the server just dies
i had my fun lvling to 50 and running rift, but thats more a credit to the players than to anything SSG has done

@@kylehofmeister6906 It will be a vanilla private server, bringing the game back to its 2007 state. Vastly different to modern lotro and much more worth your time imo.

I wish it was as easy as trading straight for wraith pets, unfortunately there is a HUGE rep grind to get through first and it takes thousands of tattered whatnots, so prepare for the delusion if you hoped for a purple shadow pet 😭

Hear me out: BLM struggles with killong wraiths and mournful wraiths. The conditions should be rigjht, tough balancing act between aggro and threat level on your pets. BUT as soon as you get lvl45, the Murder of Crows melts normal and mournful wraiths in fearless 3. With only a 2min cooldown, i eat wraiths at breakfast. ❤😂

I never could play lotro because it always seemed desert as a new player, this new server is packed and fun. I like the lore, the visuals etc., however the game is definitely clunky to play why it will just stay a side project next to other games sadly. The gameplay just doesn't feel smooth. Also the classes really aren't for me, I'd wish for a little more magic. Like shaman or paladin in WoW, nice mix of melee and magic. in Lotro you have many different melees but all just different variations/iteraions of phsyical melee. Little bit on the boring side tbh

Wraiths are terrible(I wish this feature was gone asap), running all kind of instances and raids on lvl 50 levelcap is awesome, people are nice too.
