My name is Mercedes White Calf, I was raised in Oregon but my mom is a full-blood Oglala Sioux from Pine ridge, SD. She is walking the blue road with Wakan-tank-kah (Creator/Great Spirit) now. I miss her so much. She tried to teach me the language growing up but I didn't make much time for it. I was dumb. I regret it every day. But now I look for videos like this. I am grateful for this teacher! #LakotaWinyan

Hello, I am from Rosebud, South Dakota and so are both of my parents. I grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska and only know a few phrases. I am in college now and I am learning new things but I what I really want to learn is my language. So I am watching your videos. Thank you for posting.

My bf is Lakota but he’s never been too interested in learning the language. However I love languages and am very eager for any excuse to learn something new. This episode has stuck with me for quite a while. Something funny is that after I watched this video all I can think of every time I see a buffalo is big meat. I visited Colorado and I saw some buffalo and I took a picture. I sent the picture to my boyfriend and said “Look at those buffalo!!” and he said “were they big meats?” And I said “they were huge meats!”
I dunno I just thought that was a fun interaction

Thanks Sandra, not many speak Lakota on the standings rock rez, your teaching the way vowels sound has made learning the language easier, you are blessed.

Thank you for sharing. I love the idea of the cards with the sounds on it. I will do that for my languages, too.

THANK YOU FOR THE POST. BEAUTIFUL LANGUAGE THAT DEMANDS EFFORT, AS DOES EVERYTHING OF GENUINE BEAUTY. SO MUCH FOR ENGLISH, EH? ALSO, VERY FEW PEOPLE BREATHE CORRECTLY, BUT WITH THIS KIND OF LANGUAGE, IT ENCOURAGES FULL USE OF THE BREATHE, WHICH IS A PART OF THE GIVING AND TAKING TO AND FROM THE CREATOR!!!

I like this but I couldn't see the cards she was holding to see the words.
