What a great experiment. Nice. Both are convincing. Difficult to choose a favourite. Both are unique and great sounding PU. Keep it up Johan. ❤

@@JohanSegeborn Johan, looks like someone trying to use your name. You never sent me Telegram messages, so I want to be sure, that you are The Real Johan. Looks very strange. When I saw your message.... I am really sorry, but I must to check out, because I still not sure about it.

Both sound lovely, nice to hear some cleans on this channel as well as crunch.

I’ve been wanting to see this test for ages!
After: The center of those lipsticks are dominant, lots of the D and especially the G strings. I feel like the lipstick set would be great for certain situations, would cut through a mix. But the traditional single coils are better general purpose pups.
    Thank you for doing this!

Much more super high top frequencies and shimmer from the lipstick pickups when played alone (positions 1, 3 & 5), though, strangely the opposite appears true when in positions 2 & 4!

Yes the '76 have more mids, they sound somewhat bulkier while lipsticks are thinner.

Both are different. Lipsticks have more shimmer or brightness, maybe more output. Glad to see you still have your brown 70's strat. One of the Epic Johan guitar's. I love that guitar.

People don't realize how good lipstick pickups are really I don't think. I have built a few custom guitars with them and had a guy ask me if I played girl music lol. They have a miss conception that they sound like surf music or something but they sound like some of the best strat pickups you will ever play. Now those are danelectro pickups I believe cause they are strat sized ones so that's why the body and stuff needed customized a little just like the ones srv played on his. I use strat sized ones and man even cheaper ones will surprise you very much when it comes to lipstick pickups. Nice video

To my ears the SC's had better string separation and more details. However, I really like the "round", full sound of the lipsticks. Very pleasant to listen to!
I know the farmers are complaining about the current weather. Hadn't heard that fishermen are also disappointed.

Good comparison. The Lipstick pickups sounded a bit rounder, and warmer to my ears and on my audio system. Interesting to read the different reports in the comments.
I have one Strat, but several pickguards, and a number of "extra" pickups. I recently got some "Quick Connect" cables so I can load up my other pickguards with the extra pickups, and pop them into my Strat for different tonal palettes. Should be able to that in about 10 minutes, and just loosening the strings sufficiently. Thanks

More of a slappy, twangy sound from the lipsticks - better and closer than expected but still prefer the single coils. Nice comparison!

    Hi, Johan!
You are the surgeon of guitars - I am afraid to do something like this with my strats and other guitars. Better to take it to my master. This what I like - I can see it without do it. Nevertheless 76 classic p.u. are better for my mind. The guitar itself is good, but classic construction is better for my ears! Have a great weekend!

Very cool. The lipsticks sounded somewhat like I would expect, but that's a hideous color combination with the pickguard. LOL. Nice experiment! The stock Strat sounds pretty glorious.

  • @DMSProduktions
    @DMSProduktions ปีที่แล้ว +2

Not a LOT of difference, BUT lipstick has more clarity, & none of the 'plastic' tone of Strat pick ups!
Very LITTLE difference with the in between sounds however, as there is a fair bit of 'phase cancellation' going on there!
Lippies def have more jangle to them!

I did a similar shootout between an Strat and a three-pickup lipstick-pickup guitar not too long ago. I determined that the lipsticks sounded significantly better, and then I checked in with my wife, who agreed. I then proceeded to never play the lipstick guitar, where I'd played the stock Strat all the time. Go figure.

    • @Agar4Life
