    You are my loc goals! I get my starter locs next month and I am so excited! I’ll be following your routines because out of all the research that I’ve been doing, yours seem like the healthiest and cleanest methods.
    How long have your oil + water retwists been lasting? 🤍

    Hi Somi, afternoon this is my first visit to ur channel and yes I really love what I see on it ,and yeah
    I wanted to start this journey of locsing my hair but not sure what or which products is best to start with so I'll be very happy to hear from u

    • @MadebySOMI
      @MadebySOMI  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for watching! Congrats in advance on your journey! I think you should look at the texture of your hair to determine which method between coils and twists. Then decide if you want plenty locs or not that many when choosing your size. You can choose to use a water based gel. But do not use wax whatsoever. Also make sure you have a good herbal oil for your hair and scalp. Also, don’t use conditioners or deep treatments because it will soften your hair and won’t allow it to loc. Hope this helps

  • @iolatunji18
    @iolatunji18 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Love this, around how many locs have you got? Also how often do you retwist?

    • @MadebySOMI
      @MadebySOMI  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you ❤️ I have 80 locs and I retwist monthly but sometimes after 3 weeks, it just depends on if I have an event or if I’m going somewhere I want my hair to look nice at

  • @udiilicious7898

    SUDEEEEEE 🥰 osi just got locs 🙌🏾 she started them as twist (well they are still twist now bc it’s only been a month) but anywho…. In the spray bottle after you shampoo, are you using aloe Vera juice like from the store? Or did you extracted it from a aloe leaf ?

    • @MadebySOMI
      @MadebySOMI  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yayayayayayaaa I used aloe Vera juice from vitamin shoppe and mix essential oils in it and sometimes rose water and vit e oil and also a little bit of grapeseed oil

  • @Bajannadz
    @Bajannadz ปีที่แล้ว +1

    can this be done on starter locs? I'm a month in... or so I need a gel?

    • @MadebySOMI
      @MadebySOMI  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey ma’am. Yes it can! But of course it won’t last as long especially since your hair probably only has a few buds and isn’t completely locd yet. But it is worth trying out on your own at home !!

  • @biancamajanja3516
    @biancamajanja3516 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I’m trying to figure how to get hold just from oil. My roots be puffy within days. And I have a lot of hair outside my locs it doesn’t hold the extra extra hair.

    • @MadebySOMI
      @MadebySOMI  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      May have to experiment/practice using the locksmithing method.. especially if you have a lot of hair outside your roots. My hair does that too but I constantly have to wrap the loose hairs around the base of my locs so that it grows and locs over time. Also clip placement can have a lot to do with it too

  • @JosLa877
    @JosLa877 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    What ratio do you use for the shampoo and water? I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews on Dr Bronner’s and I wanted to try it😩

    • @MadebySOMI
      @MadebySOMI  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! I don’t really use a ratio. I’m not going to say half and half because I know I always have a lot more water than the soap I just pour a little on and add water to fill it up 😶

  • @tweetibirdy
    @tweetibirdy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    do you not condition your locs i’m about to do my first wash and retiwst so i just wanted to know

    • @MadebySOMI
      @MadebySOMI  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope, I don’t condition them. You’re not really supposed to because in the beginning stages, conditioning just softens the hair and locing or it being matted takes longer. Now that my locs are a bit more mature, I do got oil treatments every once in a while. But for your very first wash, you don’t need to condition at all. You can wash it, rinse out the shampoo very very well then apply an oil all over your hair to seal the moisture in before retwisting. At the end, after your hair is completely dry, oil your scalp really well. If you want, you can spray rose water on your hair as a leave in treatment immediately after washing. I make a DIY loc mist and use it sometimes but not every time
