    I never realized how totally cool a freeze dryer is. There is so many ways to use the freeze dried tomatoes.

    We use our powdered tomato in home made BBQ rubs

    I make tomato powder from the skins of the tomatoes I can. I like to just put it in some olive oil and dip some nice crusty bread in it. Also used it as topping on a fresh marinara with pasta. I have used it in a variety of cooking but I do not find it stand out enough unless you use a lot.

    I made tomato powder for the first time last year, for sauces and paste. I used larger tomatoes, and a regular Cosori (not a freeze drier) dehydrator. It was SO much easier than boiling down sauce...Just add water to the desired consistency. I may have to try it for cherry tomatoes next year, as snacks.

      I was just thinking it must be a reasonable substitute for tomato paste!

      @@IPursuePeppers-CTH I freeze dry and powder them, then add enough water to make whichever you want.

    For those without a freeze dryer, but with some freezer space, here's what you can do when you have an abundance of tomatoes: Puree the tomatoes and pour them into a jar, then freeze it. Later on when you have more time (maybe in the winter?) you can use that tomato puree to make salsa or pasta sauce by boiling it down to thicken it and intensify the flavor. Any kind of tomato is fine, you don't really need traditional sauce tomatoes to use them like this.

      This video is about freeze drying . Get over your self go to another canning or freezing channel don’t try to shame him because what he’s doing .

      @Octoschizare 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Wow, what is your problem? What a ridiculous interpretation! How can you possibly draw the conclusion that my comment is about shaming him? It was just some advice for all the other subscribers who have a pile of tomatoes but will never own a freeze dryer, which very few people will purchase. You get over YOUR self-righteous internet police attitude.

    Love freeze drying tomatoes and making powder. I do this with larger tomatoes as well, same process, thinly slice, freeze dry (or dehydrate) and then powder. I keep my powder in a pint jar and spoon out as needed, add water to make sauce for topping meatloaf, making soup, over pasta, pizza, basically all the ways I'd use marinara or tomato sauce.

    I have used tomato powder from dehydrated skins to increase the tomato flavor in dishes and sort of a thickener. Also I add to taco meat. TFS 🍅👍

    For a lot of people the cost of a Harvest Right, with the smallest model at $2200, is off the table. Anyone is able to can tomatoes with a box of jars, a jar lifter, and a big pot for less than $100. So if your garden and budget are small, try canning. TH-cam videos tell you how.

    I would love a Harvest Right but the price is astronomical for the average person. I assume there are costs of upkeep and to use it too.

    I dehydrate the skins and then powder them. I add the powder when making tomato sauce in place of tomato paste. Thickens The sauce.

    To slice cherry tomatoes quickly put them between 2 saucers and cut between with a bread knife.
    Some vegetables a mask should be worn when powdering as they can make you cough or worse. Celery flake is one 😊
    I’ve read some use tomato powder to make paste.

    Scott, what do advise about freezing the whole tomato, both large and cherry varieties in order to keep them into the winter?

    • @GardenerScott
      @GardenerScott  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've started doing that for making tomato sauce in the months ahead. They get mushy when thawed so a sauce or soup is a good way to use them.
